Saw Cameron's 3D "Avatar" the other night. Being an FMP geek, I kept thinking of how cool it would be to use that special effects technology to create Arm Slaves for a live action movie.
As long as there are no High School Musical teeny boppers involved in the human cast...
As an American Indian, I found myself sympathizing with the blue dudes, but I also had a nasty feeling that someone was trying to sell me a leftist, anti-military point of view at the same time.
Still, the effects were well worth seeing it on the big screen at least once.

Still digging out from the white stuff? *sighs*
Gotta admit while Cameron's good with the big boom stuff, he still weaves
in a (semi) anti-military / war / nuclear views -- ref Terminator and Abyss.
Now that I have some personal time, I'll have to go check this out.

Saw it last week and I have to say I liket it alot! and for once I loved the
fact that the americans (or the humans) lost for the first time in a long time
in a movie! great to see that the director wrote something that violence isnt
always the best way to go! and that you cant always take everything by force.
(feeling that some haters are going to jump me now but hey its just my thoughts and as tau said ITS JUST A MOVIE)
Im really tired of all the movies with the american patriotism that just dont fit in... for example 2012.. great effects but worse story ever made.
Alot of meaningless patriotism and alot of not so good jokes..
as for avatar
* The surroundings were astonishing!
* The Character design and choice of actors were superb (great lead!)
GREAT!

Gotta agree with TE. Apparently some folks in the Corps didn't think the digs were all that nuanced and low-key.
The sequel to the film ought to be REALLY short.
The evil mining corporation returns a few months after the end of the first movie. Instead of a sending in a landing party or second invasion force, they just stand off on orbital platforms and drop a hail storm of MIRVs all over the pesky jungle, living up to their company motto: "If you can't win, at least get even."

Look it was not so bad, I enjoyed watching it even though I had the feeling that it was insulting me. It's an old issue with Hollywood.
I point too Aliens where The military? Hard cases fell apart, well a six year old lasted months. they tossed out every thing we learned and all the ground Hollywood had seemed too gain in understanding just too play the old kill kill because we can and only the egg heads have a brain.

And finally I got a chance to watch it. in 3D !!
I tried not to get blown away by the eye candy but I failed miserably.
Other than that the story line was a cliche but I didn't mind because overall they didn't waste time telling the story.
It was a mix between Last Samurai meets Pocahontas and they danced with wolves.
I doubt the story needs more dept because if they added it, I'm afraid all they would attract are nerdy tree huggers who fancy blue alien females.
Also, not really sure why the marines got all pissy, because the soldiers in this movie were hired by a mining company so it's anti- corp / mercenary at best.
It's like the last Startrek movie it was great fun to watch but they took the Sci out the Sci-Fi
