NOW, I can't write..... ( grumble grumble grumble )
Right.... sorry.....
No prob.

I'm in the middle of Chp 12. Too many ideas. Not enough substance. Might end up needing 12 and 13 to cover my next goal. I was fine until somebody sent me animal pictures.

And compared me to a badger.... I won't mention any names... let's just call her Av-x.... :shh:

Of course, some artwork might lift my spirits ( don't rush yourself! )

Busy work week, so I need some no-think time ( nobody say ANYTHING, you hear? )

Chp 12 ought to be done Saturday or Sunday ( possibly THIS week.... )

Oh, Av-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v-v
either that or I'll threaten to ask Jae to make the above pic his avitar if he doesn't get us a new chapter
Uh huh.

Kitsunes ARE rather crafty. They usually don'y end up messing with fanfic writers though ( especially those they want a chapter from ). Pens are mightier than the fox kind of stuff.

I mean... and I'm not saying I would EVER do it... but I might switch over to Sousuke & Tessa stories.... or Tessa and Kaname stories... or Sousuke and Badger stories... who knows what might happen if I got stuck with an avatar like that...

...NO. Don't try to speak for ALL of us. Some of us keep our bloody mouths shut, comment once and awhile, and don't seem like f-ing worshippers at the temple! (Get a grip people).

Some things I felt that needed to commented upon and that are getting back to this chapter.

1. Kaname isn't a self-centered, manipulative bitch. That's good. She holds off on wacking Sousuke on his lecture on tea (for dd's fics, she would have snapped when he started usually). I find this more in line with the actual character. Kudos. Kaname might have a short fuse...but it isn't that short. Of course...it could be passed off to maturity.

2. Sousuke is still a soldier, and still doesn't understand his feelings. If he did...that WOULD not be Sousuke. That'd be Kurz (perversion aside, Kurz is a romantic). Thank you for staying true to character there. Shitty Characterization kills fanfiction, hell...it kills real fiction.

3. Got a statement for ya dd. If sousuke was fighting the Soviets...he most definitely wouldn't use the term comrade. It'd be especially irksome to him, seeing as the commies used in place of "friend". I think he wouldn't use that freely. I might be guilty of the same mistake with Kurz/Melissa, I can't be sure. If so...major blunder (Kurz is German [no soviet love there]) and Melissa for the same reasons. I'd think he'd use compatriot or another form of the word. To put it bluntly...this is a like a Jew driving a volkswagen; it just isn't done for ideological reasons.

Good point.

However, I'm writing in English and Sousuke is presumably speaking in japanese... so, the words is for our convenience. It's similar to something that annoys me every once in a while. Writing puns or turns or phrases or rhyming things in English, while the character would be speaking something else.

Agree on Kurz vs. Sousuke. But, one point: Kurz is of Germanic descent, but spent his first 14 years in Japan I believe. If he picked up on his family attitudes he would probably not be a big fan of things Soviet. If he picked up his attitudes from his school peers when he was young, he might have gone a different route.
for dd's fics, she would have snapped when he started usually
That is true to canon, to a degree. It's fun to write at times, and is my take on things in some stories. I have no prob with fics that have it or not. I admittedly go overboard with it in some stories, but it depends on what my goals for the story are. I'm kind of halisened-out at the moment.
...NO. Don't try to speak for ALL of us. Some of us keep our bloody mouths shut, comment once and awhile, and don't seem like f-ing worshippers at the temple! (Get a grip people).
A good point and a bad point at the same time. 'All of us' probably meant 'all of us who are caught up in the story and like all the moosh parts.' In that sense they're correct. If it meant 'EVERYBODY,' then they were wrong. But, I don't think they meant to speak for eveybody per se.
They're the ones to ask that.

And for those that don't want to say a word, that's just as cool. being true to yourself kind of stuff.

Silence can be positive in a way (it's better than people saying, 'hey... that really sucks!')

Pretend worship is also OK for some people. If the writer doesn't get caught up in it or annoyed by it, then it's basically something between the writer and a certain subset of readers that can spur each other on.

Some writers might hate it, but all they need to do is say 'Screw off!' and hope that folks get the point.

Truly obsessive stuff is scary, but I haven't seen any of that.

Same thing with writers who take themselves too seriously. It's just a hobby, for crying out loud. I don't think anyone on this site does that.

I wish more people wrote... and the people who do write would write more (I won't mention HELLFIRE's name here... I'd probably get nuked and BBQ'd). It's as much fun reading sometimes as it is writing. I get so busy, I wish I had time to read more and leave comments for folks.
Get a grip people
I will focus in on that point without trying to be inflammatory. That is the other side of the coin that pisses you off. It's essentially saying 'You ALL should behave this way instead.'

But, all of the above is just my thoughts.

Mileage may vary.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Considering you weren't even a PART of the discussion on this thread until that rather rude and abusive comment, I think you were doing better keeping your "bloody mouth shut", as you said, in the first place. My comment was meant to include the other people who have been participating in this discussion who are obviously interested in dd writing lemon, and that's it. Honestly it seems to be either arrogant presumption or trolling that you would even think you were included in my comment about "all of us." Trust me, you were not.

If we choose to have FUN (that IS what we were doing if you hadn't noticed) and you choose not to participate in our play, what do you care??? Comment on dd's work, he obviously welcomes it, but if you don't feel like playing then leave it at that.

With this comment in mind. I will reply.

@dd. Thanks for being somewhat positive about my post. It was shall we say...somewhat explosive. Nice to see older heads in the forum are cooler heads at critical occasions. Thanks for the details, really. Gives me a much more balanced scale to enjoy your fiction upon (I take almost everything seriously). Being hailsened out is a GOOD thing for Sousuke...(I heard it was harisen somewhere).

As for people writing. It's hard man. In IB they suck you dry of any creativity. I've had 12 pages of RIM 8 done since 2 weeks ago (stupid summer and school assignments  )

I was somewhat out of line in regards to pissing everybody off...but it was gettng somewhat ridiculous in my opinion (which means little here [not a crack against anyone] When you chide people for having "fun" they might get pissed.

As for your story...I've noticed a much more effective sense of organic form...and like Chekov said "If you leave a shotgun on the mantle in the first act, it must go off in the last act" You've left no unfired shotguns (Sousuke is thorough :-D ). Setting is basically there from images taken from the series and life itself so that base is covered (when it isn't you manage to do fine). The beginning certainly had seeds of finality in it, but you didn't show your hand too early either. Your style is minimalist at times (that isn't a bad thing) and you manage to communicate ALOT without getting too flashy, and that's a good aspect of your style. I know it may seem stupid trying to apply fanfiction to Technique in Fiction...but it helps me in making reasonable reviews...and hopefully allows you some more literary input.

@Kashim

 ...Do you really want to know? JK. I dunno man. I don't bash everything you like, hell I don't bash much of the stuff you like at all. I'm somewhat offended by the comment. I try not to be the asshole/knowitall. I'll try to keep inflamatory comments to a minimum. You need to lay off ad homonym.

@Woman.

If I'm guilty of trolling...you're guilty of flaming

I consider most of what you said legit. But one CAN lurk. I simply voiced my opposition to a lemon by dd. If he wishes to do so...that's his perogative, his style, his story (I'd NEVER do a KW/MM Lemon). But this is Sousuke and Kaname.

Frankly...I don't like to screw around. It has it time and place (for me). Perhaps that is what conflicts here. I shot my mouth off, and you've overreacted. I think a temple of dd would be somewhat comical (seeings as we've got no description to base it upon) Whaddya want dd? One of the archangels from the book Enoch as your persona? Or a balrog? (KIDDING).

As I said above. I was a little too confrontational, and people took it WAY too seriously. As for discussion...it can be whatever the people taking part in it make it. Even if it does turn out to be ridiculous (fun also). But seriously...let's all not get bent out of shape because some f00 decides to shot his mouth off (Me included).

Anything.

Well, anything but a badger OR a temple of any sort.
Know it may seem stupid trying to apply fanfiction to Technique in Fiction...but it helps me in making reasonable reviews...and hopefully allows you some more literary input
.

No suggestions are entirely perfect or entirely useless. All are welcome. But, since I'm not trained in Literature or Writing of Fiction, references to ascknowledge techniques will go over my head.
I simply voiced my opposition to a lemon by dd
Nothing wrong with putting it that way. I don't usually write that way, and it's a matter of there often being more value in what is implied than what is described in detail. But, there would be room for some of that (to my level of comfort) in a story about learning and exploration. Some people may end up thinking it's too much... others may think it's too little.

No way to please everyone, except to rewrite each story to each person's liking. That's what everyone who writes faces. As long as they write what they want, then at least one person is (reasonably) happy.
I was a little too confrontational, and people took it WAY too seriously
That's a judgment thing. What may just be confrontational to you might be an insult to someone else.
don't seem like f-ing worshippers at the temple! (Get a grip people).
I know what you're trying to say. But to someone else it would be a slap in the face. If someone slapped you in the face, what reaction would be be taking it too seriously? If someone kicked you in the balls and you decided to slug him, would it be over-reacting if you turned around andslugges him good?

That example is Over The Top, but I can't think of a better analogy at the minute. If you throw a punch first, then get kneed... the context changes.
As for people writing. It's hard man. In IB they suck you dry of any creativity
That's a bummer! I personally hate it when I reach stretches where I really feel like writing, but nothing comes. That, or having some ideas, but no urge to write. So far, for me, the slow times have been few and far between. But, never know when any writer might say 'That's it. Got too much other stuff to do. It was fun....'

You quote something about enjoying life and yet before were degrading us for doing exactly that.
Andrei Burnside wrote:I was somewhat out of line in regards to pissing everybody off...but it was gettng somewhat ridiculous in my opinion (which means little here [not a crack against anyone] When you chide people for having "fun" they might get pissed.
Look, if you know all that then what possessed you to comment in the first place? Where is it your position to put a stopper on "ridiculous" fun? Let me point out again that you said this first "Some of us keep our bloody mouths shut" It's not like anyone is forcing you to read the rest of the thread beyond the fanfic, so what does it matter to you what we do??? It shouldn't - you don't like the play, stop reading, there's nothing else to be said.
Andrei Burnside wrote:If I'm guilty of trolling...you're guilty of flaming
That's true, and for that I apologize. I could have said the same thing with a different context. No excuses, but a reason - I was (and still am) completely pissed that you would think it your place to put myself and others down for having fun. I also find it completely offensive that you would assume that I was referring to "all of us" as including you, when you hadn't posted a SINGLE time in the thread prior to you "shooting your mouth off".
Andrei Burnside wrote:I consider most of what you said legit. But one CAN lurk. I simply voiced my opposition to a lemon by dd.
NO, you did NOT just "simply voice your opposition." Voicing your opposition would have been something like "I don't think that FMP should have sex scenes because -whatever reason-." You cannot just come back and say you weren't serious, that you didn't really mean what you said. There is NOTHING in your first post to indicate anything BUT utter seriousness, and you even say that "Frankly...I don't like to screw around." so you'll understand if I find the ways of interpreting your comments rather few in number.
Andrei Burnside wrote:I shot my mouth off, and you've overreacted.
No, overreacting would be calling people playing around "f-ing worshippers at a temple." and implying that they should be the ones to "keep their bloody mouths shut." I AM thoroughly pissed though. In all seriousness and no maliciousness, can you see why I would be pissed? What good does it do anyone to insult people by saying they're being sycophantic? dd didn't seem to mind, and I don't think any of us really worship at his temple, so what does it matter? Just because you don't like to play around, don't ruin it for the rest of us. All you had to do was leave your comments on his story and be done with it, so you'll forgive me for saying before that "you were doing better keeping your "bloody mouth shut" in the first place." and thinking it appropriate you follow your own words of admonition, instead of trying to make us conform to what you wanted.

Anyway, I'll leave it at that. If you want to continue this argument feel free to private message me.

Eh, no rush, I actually just finished the Sousuke carrying Kaname to the hospital picture! Yay!!! The links and information on making the picture are in the illustration thread (or will be shortly...) I hope it does lift your spirits, I'm pretty happy with it overall, I don't know if an artist can ever be totally happy with their work, you're always finding the flaws! but I like it enough to let it be free :-D
