putting in my 2 cents

Post by reinselft »

if we're lucky, some fansubbers will pick the title up and will sub the episodes as they come out. This means they willl use the raw episodes as they appear on TV and subtitle those...

but sometimes, after the initial episode run on tv.. some groups might re-release or redo the fansubs using the dvd rips of the Jpn dvds. Dvd rips are usually a higher quality and sometimes, certain frame/shot changes can happen in the dvd release when compared to the on-air version. Like in Hellsing, I know a number of frames were redone and were slightly different than the on-air version. Nothing big but just a lil fine-tuning here and there...

Weltall Elite wrote:Anyway, how does fansubbing work exactly? Let's say it airs in July.
A quick rundown on digisubbing:
1) cap video from source
2) translate the spoken japanese
3) time the translation to the actual audio
4) encode into desired format: avi, etc.
5) release

That's a quick overview, you're better asking at the subber's own forums
for the EXACT process, but this gives you an idea. And like grahf and reinsfelt
said, fansubbers usually grab direct from the TV source... tho sometimes
they'll go to the DVD afterwards, unless the title remains unlicenced when
the DVDs become available in Japan.

Anyways, I'm penciling in July this year for sure! :-D

Woot! Thanks for sharing the new pics! XD

The animation looks really good. Even better than before. And the pic with Kaname on the phone, could that be from near the beginning of ODBD?

You know... when

SPOILER!!!

Sousuke calls her while on a mission and in the middle of trying to escape in a wrecked Piat and she yells at him to get back in time for a test or something?

Now THAT action sequence, I'd like to see animated. Along with Sousuke's reaction to the orders he receives soon afterward. And the part with Leonard!!! Dangit... I'm not sure I can wait much longer for this thing. ><

Just speculation, but do you think Wraith will finally be bought in to the anime? I mean, he kinda did play a key role in Kaname's parts of the novel. Unless they totally rewrite some scenes to keep him out, of course. But I'd like to see Wraith get at least some mention somewhere.

Yeah, I'm sure that's the part. It's the only phone call Kaname makes in the novel where she's not huddled in the corner shivering. :?

Yeah, it would definitely be that part because there's also a picture of Kurz and Mao at the party...and then while Kaname's on the phone, they talk about how Sousuke's in Canicatti.

I WANT!! NOW!! Nice find Weltall!

Animation does look alittle slicker, especially that shot of Sousuke just
before the title credits... hope it keeps that way thruout the series

as it should be, since it's Kyoto Ani. Their work on Fumoffu is far better than what Gonzo did on the first season. Consistant chara designs, more fluidity of movement esp on the body language... I'm expecting great things from them. If how they ended hot springs episode (the part where Tessa returns to De Danaan) is any indication, it should be good.

Really? I'm surprised to hear that. I really thought Gonzo did a much better job. With Kaname anyway. I liked Kyoto Ani's Sousuke better.

I have to agree on that..

I have seen Season1 atleast 13 times... and ive seen Fumoffu 3 times,
when I was comparing Season1 with Fumoffu, fumoffu didnt stand a chance... because the animation was alot poorer, it seemed like they were in a hurry when doing it.
anyways its a personal opinion from one with alot of experience.. take it as you wish

I don't know. I can't really put my finger on the difference. But when I compare the two Kaname's the first season seems to have a sexy, refined look, while the second season seems to have more of a tomboyish cuteness.

And that's just refering to the faces. No comment on how her figure is drawn...

Sousuke on the other hand... Gonzo liked to draw him with that stiff, constipated look on his face, whereas I didn't see that in Fumoffu. But then again, that stiff look really suited him given how he was when he first met Kaname.

I thought Fumoffu was way better drawn; particularly certain episodes have a superb animation quality.

Anyway, compare the speeding sequence where Sousuke and Kaname are trying to keep their distance to the behemoth(episode what, 10?, it's called 'one night stand') with the sequence where Sousuke and Kaname are on a bike trying to escape a certain police car... It should be _obvious_ that the work that went into the bike sequence is _many_ times better.

That said, I didn't like the animation quality of the last of the behemoth episodes overall(seemed rushed), whereas I absolutely adore that bike episode, so it's not really fair for me to compare what I consider the worst of the first season with the best of Fumoffu.

All the same, there were no sequences in Fumoffu, not one, that I thought seemed rushed.

So I'm very much looking forward to season 2, and I'm happy gonzo isn't doing it :-P

That said, many thanx(tm) go to Weltall Elite for sharing those screen caps. I'm really looking forward to that. Also, I think I can pretty much guarantee that _someone_ will take up fansubbing FMP season 2.

where is fumoffu's better quality in character designs

lets compair:
Image
Just look how fumoffu sousuke's hair is done... with cheap tricks to make it look the same... and how theyve left out shadows for eg: the ears
not to mention the lightning effects

Image
Same here
this is something that bothered me alot when I saw fumoffu..

anyway

and as u can see its true in both cases...

IRT ZyreX

It's not fair to do single-frame comparisons like that, just like my sequence comparison wasn't fair :-P

Scroll to episode 17, 20:24 of season 1, and you'll find that sousukes right ear has had it's shadow effects left out, even though that sequence makes extensive use of lightning.

Go to episode 16 season 1 10:44 and you'll see Sousukes facial shape being completely jumpled.

Go to episode 18 season 1 15:14 to see Kaname with a chin so pointy it could poke somebodys eye out.

Go to Fumoffu episode 1-2 at 21:14 to get a scene where Kanames hair and lightning are done very similar to the frame you found from season 1

I couldn't find a frame with Sousukes hair and face being in as contrasty colours as the Season 1 frame you found though, but then, I only spent 15 minutes looking over a few sequences I recall. Personally, I don't really care if they do Sousuke one way or the other though, I did see him drawn in a variety of seqeunces where they used lightning in ways that weren't utilized in season 1 though. Furthermore, the framerate of Fumoffu is _a lot_ higher in many sequences...

But it is true that the character designs _are_ different, mainly in that sousukes face is 'longer' - in that respect, it's closer to the way he's drawn in the manga, but I don't see any problem with it in Fumoffu (the first manga chapters is a different story)...And as for Kaname being different, eh...there's definately _a lot_ more fanservice on her in season 1, and her face is a lil' different, but other than that I don' see that big of a difference...
