Will the FMP! Novels ever come to the US?

Just wondering. I'd totally buy them if they did!

I can't seem to find any info about it so I'm assuming that they probably won't.

Since the Slayers novels are available from Tokyopop and the RahXephon novels are out there's no reason why they wouldn't provided the publishers think they are worth the cost of translating them. Go to the contact pages of publishers like ADV and Tokypop and ask them, that's what I did although I never got any responces, its always worth trying

I can't believe FMP is less popular than RahXephon and Slayers.

If they did though they have so much catching up to do that it would be flipping ages till they got to COMO and BOMF but Boku-Tachi would have to stop translating them too so I guess I'd be reading FMP in an old people's home

I hope they do though, I'd like to have hard copies of the books I can read. Although, I seem to remember the Slayers ones didn't even have any coloured artwork (just the black and white images) which would be half the point of buying them

Well maybe they did and my memory is just bad!

lol, I hope they do too. It might take a while to get 'em out but I'd think they would sell pretty well.

I'd be mad if they took out the colored images! Those are awsome!

I guess if we drowned them with enough fan mail, they might consider it.

Though, I doubt the 20, maybe 30, regular users here would be enough to turn the tide. :/

I agree, I don't think most of us, if the novels did come out, would be able to buy multiple copies of the same novel considering there is I don't know how many novels left to buy.

Well, that's not to say that I want to dissuade from sending ADV a request. In fact, if I can find page, I think I'll probably send one too. Worth a shot, right?

Well, we all know TSR is going to get licensed sooner or later. FMP fans will buy it. To get the word out, whoever translates the novels can have a small flier put into the DVD cases announcing the novels. I see it as no worse than a flier with the future volumes' release dates or the survey cards.

Yes, but that's not what I mean. If ADV were to translate them, yes, they'd obviously try to advertise it. I mean getting enough people to tell ADV to translate the novels. And I'm just not sure there's enough fans who know about the novels to sway ADV.

Great idea PookaKitten, we of this Full Metal Panic! forum must somehow infiltrate ADV's headquarters and put you in as a high ranking employee and our agent, to broadcast our plea and your ideas, it might work. All we need is the supplier of armaments to break through ADV's top notch security systems and guards...

The thing about the novels, before I joined the forum and really started to read the posts, like almost reading every single post in the Veterans section, I had a dim idea about the novels since I hanged around this awesome site before joining. It kind of is a problem. I see other forums that talk about Full Metal Panic!, and our active member's knowledge in Full Metal Panic! compared to them is sometimes substantially higher, though of course there is many complications about that. I just think that if everyone joined this forum, read the posts and was active, they would know a lot in no time.

yea, i agree with the series popularity why hasn't ADV jumped on this? well this brings up somethin else i was thinking of; besides boku-tachi, there isn't any1 else translating the novels, u would think if there were lots of people who enjoyed the series that there would be more novel-translators...

Note: For comparing apples to oranges instead of apples to beef, I'm comparing translating novels to translating manga. Apples and oranges, like novels and manga, are both similar. I see anime as a totally different set of challenges in translation than the written word, the meat as compared to the two different fruits.

Well, look at it this way... consider the amount of translation for a 100 page novel and a 100 page manga. The novel has much, much more translation to do. In addition, Brandi (the translator) says that the novels are filled with a lot of jargon, foreign words and the like. Consider how regularly she revises a name in a later section of the books to prove that. I would venture that a novel's grammar is more involved than a manga's grammar. Brandi's also said that she has much more room for interpretation in the novels so she has to take the time to get it "right."

All in all, it's a heck of a lot of work to do, especially for volunteers. I give Brandi and the folks at Boku-Tachi a great deal of respect for undertaking such a complex, involved project and seeing it through with a consistently high quality.
