You just have to get used to it. In Denmark we ( my father and I) followed a part of the North Sea cycling route. He had his 29 speed Koga myata worldtraveller and I my recumbrent bike. Unless the roads where realy poor (I hadden't thought of putting wider tires on my bike) he had to work hard to keep up with me.
I does make a lot of difference.

I've seen those bike things before. Are they common in Denmark? Seems cool riding on it as long as there isn't any obstacles in your way. The incline of the seat gets you to lay down partially I guess, it would be awesome in riding it on a sunny day.

It looks like it forces you to lay back, but with no head or upper back support, you're doing a lot of work to hold yourself up.

What do you mean? You're supposed to lay back, in my observation though it might or might not restrict your line of sight. If that thing was faster than a bike presumably, then that means the pedaling and system of moving the bike forward is more economical and advantageous than a normal bike.

Well, look at the seat. It doesn't seem to go any higher than the middle of his back. So his head and most of his torso would be supporting itself up, right?

I've never rode one of those before so I wouldn't know. The only time I saw them was on tv I believe. I don't think they're common in the US.

@ Kaze: I like your vegtable knife :D

@ Weltall Elite: Most of your thorax is supported on a recumbrent bike. It's just the last inches and your neck that don't have support. But what is more important is where the incline starts. On very low racers that is only the upper part of your back, wich puts a lot of stress on it. On tour bikes the incline starts with your lower back and gives amost no problems with back or neck.
What does give problems is the line of sight. In the city can't see over cars or high obstacles and in return cars have dificulties seeing you. you need a high recumbrent bike for cities. But then you lose a lot of your aerodinamyc advantages.

* tee hee veggie knife *

Kaze: Is that a Ginsu? Ya know: it slices, it dices, it Loriena Bobbit-izes.

Nazgul: Somehow I don't think you need to worry about aerodynamics in the city. * KiLlEr use to ride his 12 speed in manhatten, and never needed to peddle. He just held onto busses. Easy enough, since they all run on Natural Gas and not desile.*
