Last couple of days .. melted to a puddle .. it was too damn hot. Nearly took on an Australian accent :)

So now I have to deal with clients that have a vpn and are complaining their fat client app feels sluggish .. "But we have a x 100 megabit connection and if we copy a file it goes with 40MiB/s, so it's fast enough"

Guess they don't grasp the concept of latency :)

100Mbit symmetrical or asymmetric?

If they're nontechnical, "the little gremlins in the orangy thing are on coffee break."

If they're technical, "here's our findings, now what did YOU do to check out your s**t?"

...and I'm THOROUGHLY getting sick of hearing about VPN and tunnels. There's 3 environments I support and they're
all interconnected in some way, but the nontechnical types don't have the nuts and bolts details so they just say
"we need a tunnel to X!" Insert long string of 4letter explitives from me here...

2nd tunnel issue I'm on... got handed a config for a stronger Diffe Hellman group to use by the vendor, vendor can't
lab it up to verify, we don't have a lab, so I'm getting pushed to just deploy it. Yeah, so what about the other 100
tunnels we got running off this box if this change goes south? I'm lining my pants with shingles as we speak...

symmetrical but while we have a rtt of 0.654 ms on average they get a solid 6.521 ms on average .. gee almost a factor 10 between them and they are doing a lots of small DB r/w's in their fat client.
They ran fine on terminal server but some dweep fooled them and sold them the vpn with claims ... it's just as fast as your local lan... sigh.

Can't you draw it out with crayons?
and PAPER TRAIL PAPER TRAIL PAPER TRAIL cover your ass and make sure you have lots of evidence noting your concern and a scapegoat to point at. :)

I got a long string of 4letter explitives I wanna hurl at said "some dweeb." Small DB writes as well...
Recall an issue because of a short path/long path circuit issue, a "small db" job (like 100K per write) went
off the rails performancewise, even though at layer 3 we saw zero delta in RTT.

This morning, same deal -- what was supposed to be a simple "join call, validate changes I made" turned into
a 5hour call that boiled down to "insufficient documentaton" to make this change work. They've some backchannel
connection between two sites/environments I support, but damned if I have the EXACT nuts and bolts cable path
this connectivity takes. And guess what, no one else does either... slow clap all around.

@CPOK
Got a fellow Canadian addictd to Tim Tams. He wants to know a) what other flavors there are in Australia -- we
can only get chocolate and chocolate caramel up here -- and b) what your favorite flavor is.

Think we all know the Sony fiasco all too well... here's a REALLY good postmortem investgation
on what Sony didn't do inspite of their claims of "super strong and advanced protections."

With the recent news of Anthem, and now UCLA Medical and AshleyMadison, I swear postmortems above really help the overall learning
of how to better prepare for something like this... instead it seems the standard refrain afterwards is "we're BAU, here's a year's
credit monitoring / ID protection, now shut up and be good little sheep."[/rant]

Caught Ted 2, Inside Out and Minions recently.

- Ted 2, lighter on the gutter humor with some genuninely funny moments, like the scene of Whalburg and Ted in the fertility clinic and
a whole shelfload of semen cups.

- Inside Out, was amusing to watch... the interactions of the various emotions, especially Disgust and Rage were funny as heck! Going
to get this when it comes out.

- Minions had it's moments... I'm kinda iffy about Sandra Bullock's performance as Scarlet Overkill, at times felt like she was just
reading the script and letting the animation do the work for her. Do stick around postcredits for a good laugh though :)

Going to see Pixels this friday if I can find other ppl to join.

Lol. I happen to be at the mall now (we dropped April off at her college for orientation) and just watched inside out (real3d) and ant man (imax 3d). We liked both of them. We're here with our older boy btw. We get to drive home in traffic unfortunately :(

Question is what'd you do with the DB, Taurec? Blackmail? Or some "late night reading?"

Two movies that have been recommended but I haven't seen is Jurassic World -- liked #1, saw bits of #2 but not enough
to form an opinion, #3 was meh, and the fact that BD Wong was the only guy they got back to do this movie -- and
Terminator Genesys -- like #1 and 2, #3 was meh and #4 was "just shoot me to stop the pain" painful.

Anyone wanna offer their input on why I should go see those movies, given that?

Thoughts on Pixels : slow start, then when it picks up, it's GAME ON, BABY!! (pun intended).
As for my concnerns about Adam Sandler toilet humor, thankfully it isn't, it's more "let's
watch this guy dig the hole deeper, while we (the audience) laugh our butts off" style. Also
some amusing 1liners in the dialogue. Otherwise, I LOVED it for the 80s soundtrack and
nostalgia... DEFINATELY getting this when it comes out.

Speaking of 80s nostalgia -- wow, just wow... "if it isn't broken, don't replace it" taken alittle too far?

Ant-man was fun. :)
Likable characters and while I could buy the shrinking bit .. the tank was kinda against their universe rules imho.
Must watch if you are Marvel fan .. and keep seated because there are two extra's

Feel free to tell the news station to correct their statements KiLlEr... I'm just sharing :-D

Had a real fun upgrade this weekend... had to upgrade the code on a redundant pair of firewalls remotely... thankfully went relatively painlessly.
Got another one to do in 3weeks time next.... along with the OT hours to go with it.

Tall and Cold, I just need it...

I got about 1/2 way thru that article before I had to set it down... and I though the Cult Of Coporate (Cult)ure Of IBM and Cisco was whacked... this is a fullon "Live For Darkseid, Die For Darkseid" kinda thing...

...then again, loyal Amazonian customer for the better part of 10years.
