EP22

Season 4 finale, and the THIRD EP WITH JON CRYER'S LEX LUTHOR. WHEEE! Alot to love, some to get confused / go WTF over, but generally a very enjoyable
season finale. Opens with a recap of 24hours ago, with Red Daughter going back to Lex to report her failure, and Lex revealing the linkage to Eliza Danvers
-- which cleared up that plothole from last episode -- and Lex and Eve casually draining alien powers and testing out his hardware in Ameritek. Then Lex
recalling President Baker as a "backbench, backwater senator" and how he, Lex Luthor, engineered Baker's rapid promotion to where he is now. Then Lex
engineering the Kasnian invasion -- exactly HOW that was able to arrange and engineer that without ALOT of possibilities of leaks, never mind the timing,
I'll just roll with -- then in his Lex suit and singing Sinatra's "My Way" with a face and heart of malevolence! WOW! Cryer's Lex has just been GREAT
this season! And apparently the stopping of the Kasnian invasion was what lead Red Daughter away after the "death" of Supergirl, and Lex not sending a signal
to her for her to lead the invasion forces. Textbook Lex Luthor : plans within plans, and everyone dancing to his tune. The scene of of Red Daughter going
into the energy extractor, and Lex's dismissal as "you're either dumb or staggeringly naive," and his DEEP hatred of Kryptonians, as he unceremoniously
stuffs her into the tube...
But the penultimate scene with Cryer's Lex is the trio of Luthors in the White House in a family reunion... STILL hold out hope Lena will stay on Team
Supergirl as I think 3 evil Luthors throws the dynamics of the show, but still a powerful scene with some GREAT dialog by all three actors! Seems that
wasn't the endall to all to Lex's plans, seems he also plans to vaporize Argo City and Superman with it as well. Amusing bit with Lillian and her admission
that she'd poisoned Lex's tea, but Lex was too busy running his mouth off the whole time.
Ben Lockwood himself goes to his father's old steel mill, and discovering that Otis is the patsy given credit for Luthor's crimes, and that Lex is replacing
him as Secretary of Alien Affairs. Never mind an assassination attempt by Eve Tessmacher clones.
J'onn and Dreamer discover they're held at Shelley Island, and they and the rounded up aliens from the DEO are the "nuts and bolts" details of Lex's plan to
donating electricity to the residents of the US affected by the Kasnian invasion.
Emotionless Brainy was alot of fun as usual, especially with the reaction of the rest of Team Supergirl over the fates of J'onn and Dreamer.
Climax pulls this all together when all factions converge at Shelley Island; Ben and his CoL minions at Shelley Island looking for a fight -- why Lockwood
wouldn't go for Lex instead seems alittle off, never mind exactly where he would even find any more CoL minions to help -- Supergirl, Alex, James and Brainy
to rescue J'onn and Dreamer. Supergirl and superpowered Lockwood square off, while Alex and James take on the CoL minions. Brainy, Dreamer and J'onn attempt
to stop the reactor core from providing the power for another, more powerful Claymore satellite to fire on Argo City, and J'onn swearing he won't make the
same mistakes again when he ran from his planet -- pretty powerful stuff from David H there. When the Claymore won't fire, Lex intervenes personally and takes
on Supergirl -- him with a miniaturized Claymore satellite and kryptonite, and her with Lena's anti-kryptonite suit. Brainy reboots to his "normal" self and
admits to Dreamer his feelings as the core overloads. In the chaos, the aliens are released including Red Daughter, who takes a lethal shot of kryptonite for
Supergirl -- seemingly dying in a glowy purple aura that surrounds Supergirl after her death -- and James and Lockwood are freed from the Harun-El in their
system via Lillian's tech. Always GOT to love a Supergirl / Lex smackdown and Supergirl taking him down, leaning to Lex seeming ashed by impact to the ground
after refusing Supergirl's offer of help, but actually stargated to his hideout where Lena extracts the Harun-El and puts two bullets into him, but not before
revealing to Lena Kara's real identity as Supergirl ... uh-oh...
Conclusion puts everything into a relatively neat bow : James back in charge of Catco, with a Nick Fury-like eyepatch. President Baker is impeached and VP
Plastino (NICE Supergirl history callout there!) replaces him, and Col Haley giving a speech and thanking to Supergirl for her service to her country. Alex
and Kelly are given a moment alone, and Kelly's admission she doesn't want it to end, briefly and humorously interrupted by Brainy's "fear not, we see nothing"
as he and Dreamer are on their own date. Ben Lockwood in prison, and his son is preaching a message of peace and understanding with aliens. Game night at
J'onn's, and Lena seems normal enough, but Kara still finding excuses to delay not telling Lena her secret, never mind Lena smashing a glass on a picture frame
of her and the Danvers sisters.
Hook for next season and the crossover : Eve was just a pawn (as usual), but her handlers were related to Leviathan; a new green martian seeking J'onn J'onnz
and not in a good way, and the Monitor from the crossover this year is the reason why, as well as visiting Lex's dead body.
Lines / Scenes I Loved :
---
As brief as they were, ANY scene with Helen Slater (zen) in it!
"I should have known kryptonite alone could never kill Kara Danvers, her heart however makes her weaker than kryptonite ever could."
"Don't worry, it won't hurt. Guess I was wrong." / "Get a mop."
"What can I say? I'm proud to be an American."
"You basically died." / "But I survived." / "Well I guess it's my job to show them who Lex really is."
"No, I will not let fear win."
"That is a rather strong emotional reaction for such an insignificant detail."
"Besides, if I see Lex, I'll be able to get some stellar quotes for my best friend's article."
"Can you believe it sis? Three Luthors in the Oval Office."
"I promise, there's no Polonium-210 in it, like you put in my tea."
"That was for abandoning us."
Cryer channeling Hackman's "MISS TESSMACCCCCCCCHER!" again.
"How are you alive? How did you do it?" / "How do you think I did it? I'm Supergirl!" -- HAHAHAH!
"You can thank your sister for this."
"Now smile, and take this like a Kryptonian."
"Two birds, one alien hand cannon."
"Saved? By a Kryptonian? I'd rather die."
"What can I say Lex? You've become predictable."
"I'm about to die, but at least I lived without ever being a fool."
