Got a statement for ya dd. If sousuke was fighting the Soviets...he most definitely wouldn't use the term comrade
Good point.
However, I'm writing in English and Sousuke is presumably speaking in japanese... so, the words is for our convenience. It's similar to something that annoys me every once in a while. Writing puns or turns or phrases or rhyming things in English, while the character would be speaking something else.
Agree on Kurz vs. Sousuke. But, one point: Kurz is of Germanic descent, but spent his first 14 years in Japan I believe. If he picked up on his family attitudes he would probably not be a big fan of things Soviet. If he picked up his attitudes from his school peers when he was young, he might have gone a different route.
for dd's fics, she would have snapped when he started usually
That is true to canon,
to a degree. It's fun to write at times, and is my take on things in some stories. I have no prob with fics that have it or not. I admittedly go overboard with it in some stories, but it depends on what my goals for the story are. I'm kind of halisened-out at the moment.
...NO. Don't try to speak for ALL of us. Some of us keep our bloody mouths shut, comment once and awhile, and don't seem like f-ing worshippers at the temple! (Get a grip people).
A good point and a bad point at the same time. 'All of us' probably meant 'all of us who are caught up in the story and like all the moosh parts.' In that sense they're correct. If it meant 'EVERYBODY,' then they were wrong. But, I don't think they meant to speak for eveybody per se.
They're the ones to ask that.
And for those that don't want to say a word, that's just as cool. being true to yourself kind of stuff.
Silence can be positive in a way (it's better than people saying, 'hey... that really sucks!')
Pretend worship is also OK for some people. If the writer doesn't get caught up in it or annoyed by it, then it's basically something between the writer and a certain subset of readers that can spur each other on.
Some writers might hate it, but all they need to do is say 'Screw off!' and hope that folks get the point.
Truly obsessive stuff is scary, but I haven't seen any of that.
Same thing with writers who take themselves too seriously. It's just a hobby, for crying out loud. I don't think anyone on this site does that.
I wish more people wrote... and the people who do write would write more (I won't mention HELLFIRE's name here... I'd probably get nuked and BBQ'd). It's as much fun reading sometimes as it is writing. I get so busy, I wish I had time to read more and leave comments for folks.
Get a grip people
I will focus in on that point without trying to be inflammatory. That is the other side of the coin that pisses you off. It's essentially saying 'You ALL should behave this way instead.'
But, all of the above is just my thoughts.
Mileage may vary.
Thanks for the thoughts!
