OT: Can take the SRT file + vid file, load into VDubMod and save as either
an OGM file or MKV file, or leave both in same directory and open via VLC

Yo Hellfire, I use VLC media player also. Version 0.7.2 for WinXP. Do you experience occassional split-second choppiness mainly in audio? It'll happen more when I try to do other stuff on the comp while playing a video, like surfing the web, so I'm guessing maybe cuz it uses lotta CPU.

You sure you posted that in the right thread Circle?

Naruhodo... these SRTs work like a charm... But I'll save rewatching these episodes to a time when... no one else is awake... and I'm up for mental torture.

Ah, my bad habit of going OT. Gomen.

Hellfire, just PM me if you know a way to fix that. It not a problem at all, really.

Well, I was just asking since HF hasn't really touched this thread.

Anyway, seems like more fansub groups are turning up the heat. Now even episode 3 is subbed... so the question is... do I stick with the SRT files... Hm...

Depends on the format of the aud. If it's plain old MP3, then there shouldn't
be anything. Another thing is how much CPU horsepower you have to
spare. If it's the lower end of things, yeah, doing tasks other than
VLC will take perceptible amounts away and lag things out....

Also may want to check your VLC config and make sure everything's
tuned to max performance. Yeah, it's pretty daunting, but flip around
when you've got some spare time.

@Tsush
if all ya got to do is d/l a clean RAW and some VERY small text subs... do the math ;)

Haven't done one of these in a while:

***** KiLlEr-sempai naruhodo *****

The only prob is that if the video file is not the reference file for the srt, the subs will most likely be off. Especially if the framerate differs, or the section timelength differs (such as when the clip out the commercials, and announcements).

The worst is when the reference video was non-dpf, and your raw is dpf. Then your subtitles will outrun the video. Likewise, if the raw is full frame, and the reference was processed using a linedoubler. Either one will produce inconsitancies between the current frame of the video and the frame refered to in the srt file.

Ah, the joys of video production.

http://www.matrixav.com/html/tech_info/time_code.htm

The important thing to remember about timecodes is that they are a way of counting frames and not measuring time. Any similarity is due to your overactive imagination. ;)

Also, things get even more fun with consumer VCRs and recorded video. They cause the framerate to meander like a drunkard. Some can get as bad as continously varying as much 45 frames in either direction.

Which is why frame accurate decks are very $$$$$$.

// needs to wake up some more before shooting his mouth off :-P

BTW Tsush, ya never mentioned the source of these SRT subs?
As Killer said, may or maynot be in time, but it'd be enough to get a sense
of what's going on... tho it's more trouble than it's worth to retime those subs
if they are out....

The source was from Hongfire as far as I know. The srt's aren't really important since some groups are actually subbing now.
