Why did Gaul say I love you Kashim and whats with the echoing words I love you Kashim(after his death???)

And why did Sousuke bang on the SUb several times.... (for me nothings going to change if I punch on a metal plate or 2...)

And don't ask the answers from me because I for one have nooooo idea.

I think the Gaulun question...well, I can't *say* for sure but I'll tell you what I think.

Mild spoilers, end of series stuff.

I think they guy became seriously deranged as the series progressed and was pretty obsessed with Sousuke by the end.
Because only Sousuke could reasonably stop him, and had managed to do so twice already. ALthough G was very professional in the beginning, after the homeland trio he's taking S's involvement personally. He lost his impartial attitude and was focused on S more than anything, by the end.
There's a thin line between love and hate, and I'll bet G has never felt so emotional about anyone else, heh. Hate was prolly the closest to love the guy's ever gotten.

I could really explain in detail, if you want. :-D

Well, it's just me rambling about what G's attitude was in the beginning, compared to the end, and where I think his train derailed.

If you really *really* still want I'll ramble :)
but later- I'm busy giving out candy canes to tricker treaters

I haven't seen that episode of Hellsing, but my knowledge of the series so far... Arucard can get shot all to hell and regenerate himself. In that picture I would assume that he got so shot up that the only remaining part was his head and he couldn't spontaneously regenerate. So, he required Victoria to carry him.

I agree with Jae that Gaul was walking a fine line between love and hate in his obsession with Sagara. Also, S was the only pilot to hold his own against G lamda driver or not. S showed much skill. So in a way, G loved S for the challenge and rivalry. The echo is just an effect to reemphasize what was said.

As for the punching of the deck, I believe S has some issues with death/dismemberment on the battlefield. Think about it... When melissa gets hurt he's all wigged out. When those people on that mission in the desert get slaughtered, he has issues. But on the other hand he easily shoots that guy dead in front of Chidori in self defense without batting an eye. I'd be confused and maybe even pissed that a freak like G would say "i love you". I think the punching is just a release of tension and confusion. Well this proves that I have no idea why S punched the deck. Woo!!!

Forgot about this thread- yeah, anyway.
Backing up SK :)

I think both Sousuke and Gaulun show some serious disinergration (sp ARG!) of their professionalisim over the course of the series.
THey both lost their detatchment.

Although he doens't show it until later, the events in the series were apparently more traumatic for S than he shows. Everything was pretty much fine (pre-series), until things got wierd (with kaname, with the arbalest, with gaulun). He started taking things personally, we all know that.

With G- think about ep 5, where G catches S and K in the river. G showed some amusement about who S is, but he was just going to kill him, as casually as he kills everyone else. S was just in his way- nothing personal.

Course, ep 7 starts the change, when S becomes the only effective stop.
G so sooo self confident, and lost in a pretty major upset.

Then in the homeland trio eps, S interferes with G again- but because of Z, G starts, I think, putting it in a personal way. G let Z deal with S, even though G was better equipped for it- But G liked the personal conflict.
S beats G again.

G's *really* mad- and now, it's personal.

So, he sets up an elaborate plan, just to get S.
An attempt to pretty much take over and/or destroy what S cares about.
G had the chance to kill S, he didn't take it. (on the island. 'someone else' would be dead if G's shot were real)
G set up a plan that would cost him his life if he failed, but he considered the risk worth it, if he could get to S.

To put it plainly, the guy was obsessed. Not professional.
And S's decisions had already slipped past his personal definitions of 'professional'- they got pretty tangled up in a real emotional mess.

But, then again, maybe G just said what he did as a last ditch effort to piss S off some more.

And I haven't seen hellsing yet :(
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

i just finished reading the first 4 volumns of(FMP novels).. i will do my best to answer your 2nd question.. 8) in the novel (and animation) we can definately see the changes sagara goes through.. but in the novel, the changes (his priorities; emotional states; etc) are more in detail and also the thoughts/ comments by other characters are written out... first of all.. the very first volume (1st episode ani.) sagara has basically no emotion..he just doesn't care ... he doesn't care if he dies,, his only "concern" is accomplishing the mission... (he is very much like Heero Yui in Gundam wing)... when he rescues the girl in the beginning of the story (novel) she asks him.. " your comrade ... he is dead... are you sad?" and sagara answers rather indifferently.. "don't know" ...
so to answer your question... why he was banging on the sub? well,, in the novel doesn't mention anything like that (i think :? ) but sagara does yell out and curses gaulun.. that is to show how much sagara changed... he has learn to have show his emtion and it was so unlike his character that everyone was surprised.. (chidori was somewhat happy... and understood why he shunned her away earlier )... i hope i answered your question... i am leaving out ALOT!!!! (i just metioned the beginning of the 1st volume and the end of the vol. 3  ).... the animation doesn't really fully explain..there is so much more to each character's background.. the creator of R, etc... because i think the creator basically assumed that everyone has read the novel... anyway,, have a nice day... :grin

Thanks for your POV's. They we're similar to mine. Like the desintegration of S and G's professionalism and etc. Don't have the income of buying a novel yete but maybe in the near future.

Hi Ruri-san! ^__^//

Coool! I read Japanese too, but haven't bought the books yet. Yay, can I ask you for spoilers??? ^^;;; *lol* Sorry if you're busy or anything, gomen. Onegaiiii~ :D

I posted here rather than by private message because I though other people might be interested in reading stuff about the end of the series too. ^^
I thought that the books went farther than the anime goes (after the submarine fight issue), am I wrong? If I'm not, then does Gaulun survives?
Btw, anyone has a clue on how his name is spelled in romaji? (western letters)

The end of the series (anime) was very surprising for me, I didn't expect at all Gaulun to start calling Sousuke "honey" etc, *lol*!! But I found it really cool, very different from what we usually watch.
Specially the fact that both sides get pretty emotionnally affected by all that's going on in the series, and end up changing a lot. I like much better the Sousuke "with feelings" of the end of the seris than the one of the start, closer to a robot... But Gaulun too is really a great character.
As soon as my husband and I watched FMP, Gaulun replaced everybody else as our favourite anime bad guy of the moment, *lol*. [except for Saito. Saito is "intouchable". *lol*]

Gaulun seems to be pretty popular in Japan too, but I'm surprised that there's not a lot more of "ladies oriented" doujinshi etc with stuff about him and Kashim :o *LOL* I say that because often when an anime gets popular, these doujinshi and fics start popping out from nowhere, even though the characters don't have any link like that in the original story (cf the amazing amount of stuff on Rurouni Kenshin, with Kenshin and sano etc... :? ) While in FMP, Gaulun said clearly "Aishiteru ze, Kashim!", and nobody tilted (? ) *lol* ^^ Maaa, not that it's an important issue, but I found that funny that there wasn't a lot of fuss about it.

I've been in Japan last week, and was hunting for anything related to FMP, but there was so few doujinshi (in which, even the doujinshi making people would comment about the fact that there's so few doujinshi on that series... ) and stuff. I ended up buying a story board of the episode 4 of the anime!!! ^____^ *happy* :-D :-D :-D :-D

Anyway, Ruri-san, if you don't mind to spoil about Sousuke/Kashim's childhood and anything like that from the books, I'd be very happy! ^_^
I huge wanted to know more about his past, but there's not that many info.
Did you read the "Ikinari Full Metal Panic" manga series? Margareth's father seems to have knew Sousuke when Sousuke was a kid, just after Afganistan, or just before.... does he appears in the books too?

And is there a lot of differences, or things that are more detailed in the books than in the anime? (regarding Sousuke's childhood, or the end of the series (anime version) etc?)

If you do'nt mind, also : where do you come from, and how long have you been studying Japanese? At University, in Japan, or on your own? (it would be very funny if we found out we've been to the same school or whatever, if you happen to be in Europe. *lol*)
