Any particular reason?

@Taurec, w/ regards to Katyusha
Sorry if I gave the idea that I was, but I wasn't trying to stray from
the weapons topic of the thread. Ep 13, Katyusha's right in pointing
out Mao thought Kurtz was referring to the battleship than the
swordsmaster, and I thought it'd be interesting to ppl who don't
know about the battleship aspect.

...and please stop the pushups, you're embarassing me

@Katyusha
Danna: I was referring to Ep 18 where Danna sneaks up behind the
Pasedena, and is like within 'fender-bender' range of her. Best
place to hide is the baffles -- ie. dead space acoustically behind the
screw -- but also most dangereous!!
Haven't gotten much about the -48s technically, but I think you're
right about the 200ft rule, or you could turn in the opposite direction
of the torp and run like hell!! 650lb of explosive, you wanna make
sure you and your keel is as FAR away from THAT as possible...

HY-80: Federation of American Scientists claims a figure pretty close
to 2000ft for this stuff. I was just going off various bits of info I've
picked up, I haven't updated it until I hit the fas.org site recently

Back to the Hind debate, did some checking and the missiles that
the Hind can theoretically be armed with are the AT-2 Swatter (wire),
AT-6 Spiral (radio/laser), and AT-16 (laser, later models) Hind-D has
the Gatling 12.7mm cannon and Swatter missiles, Hind-E introduced
the radio-guided Shturm missiles...so I think we're back to where we
started. Then again, artists are known to take creative licences
when drawing stuff like this, so who knows?

There a databook for the anime/manga that says which model it was?[/i]

Well, the 688(i) has a towed-array (forgot which model), and so trailing from a distance is pretty tough... but yes, that was *WAY* too close for comfort...

On running away from the torp, while running is good at long range, considering how close the torps were fired from, turning TOWARDS the torpedo would likely work better for 2 reasons:

1. Small accoustic signature, as the screws are on the other side

2. Most torpedoes have a range-arming system to prevent them from blowing up their own firing platforms. This was demonstrated in Hunt for Red October. The default arm range for the -48 was 400 meters as of 1998.

Back to the hind: Definitely saw a wire, but it looked tube mounted, so the AT-2 is practically out... the databook has nothing on the model of hind.

Gosh, I hate being so stereotypically female... *twirls hair about finger*
But although I read these posts most of it isn't stuff that I know what to do with for the site.

You all know that I'd like a weapons info section- with this sort of info-
basic weapons profile info- where and who used (in series)- if the use was real to life...ect ect. Not too tough <g>
I think....

Anyway, I'm considering making a special weapons group and forum section. Only people in the project of helping me with the webpage section could post. Then maybe this info could be worked out into a format that I could just CnP....or something. Of course, everybody on the project gets oodles of credit on the site.

So...thoughts?
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

The two towed arrays on the 688i-class are the TB-16 (A-D mod)
and the TB-23. The -16 is the standard 'fat-line' (~3.5" diameter)
array used and the -23 is the first 'thin-line'(~28mm) for use on
subs equipped with AN/BSY-1 and AN/BQQ-5E systems.
...and if the Pasedena's CO's commander EVER found out he'd
been tailed at that range and NEVER found out, that'd put a VERY
black mark in his service record *hehehe*

SOP in the USN for incoming torpedoes as I understand it is to
run like hell in the opposite direction, but you're right, it'd depend
on the tactical situation. I don't know if you'd be ballsy enough
to run toward it... who knows if some psycho commander
decided to reset his safety ranges before he fired. I'll bet the
Pasedena's CO was pissed off enough to try after so many
humiliations

The Hind IMHO is probably the -D model. It's the most common
model around -- always good to be familiar with your audience --
it's the backwoods of the Soviet Union -- so who needs the latest
and greatest against a few 'ignorant savages,' as the area
commanders would put it. Just my $0.02 till I can find different

Well in a other thread I was thinking about that AT-2

The one they could have drawn ... Tube launched AND wire guided is the

where only the BRDM, BMP-2

So we pretty much concluded it was a screwup on GonZo's behalf ..

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

They could also be HOTs or MILANs.

It's a Hind, and that's good enough for me. The 'analyze the
nitpick to death to figure out HOW it could actually work IRL'
isn't the way I work... 'specially when it comes to such
obvious goofs like that.

I'm thinking of 'Tommorrow Never Dies' -- Chinese MiGs must
carry torpedoes, and 'Tears of the Sun' -- we fly 20 ft off the
ground and fire Sidewinders at ground targets....

....yeah, whatEVER!!!

True... but most of the other weapon systems are pretty accurate.

N/P to anybody, but if you're going to SHOW a weapons
system in a movie/etc., making it LOOK accurately and
USING it accurately should never be two mutually
exclusive things. Above examples are case in point.

Maybe someone can help me...

Post by Mierent Tsunar »

In addition to other things, I frequently play pencil-and-paper role playing games (D&D, Shadowrun, etc.). A friend of mine recently created a game similar to these using gundam wing, but it had a few flaws and didn't go too far. Nonetheless, I'm trying to build off of what he had using Full Metal Panic as the basis for weapons, factions, etc. but I'm running into trouble as I can't find enough info on the AS's themselves. I've checked 'The Armory' and it was very helpful for getting an idea of some of the guns usable on infiltration missions, but I can't come up with enough for AS combat.

Anywho, anyone who can help me come up with names, pictures, etc. of AS's and their weapons, or can think of general specs of one AS to another I ask to let me know. I realize that I can't get everything exactly as it was in the show, but if I can get it close I'll be happy. I'm not online all that often, but my e-mail is Dark_Soul_86@hotmail.com so if anyone posts something and I don't respond for a while, please send it to my email.

I thank you all for your assistance so far, and hope that at least a few of you will aid me in this endeavor.

I already made one with a few of my friends. I'll type up the Rules later and send them to you.

Thanks, that would be great. I've already developed a little bit of a stats/skills system that I think I'll keep (as it is derived from my favourite aspects of D&D, shadowrun, and the game my friend made) but I appreciate anything you can send, especially stats for AS's, weapons, etc. (which I really don't want to piece together on my own).

By the way, does the game you made use a d6, or a d20? I've played rpg's that used either, but I think the d20 is easier to work with.
