A Night At The Opera (part 6 of 6) {Chapter 37}

"I love you, Kaname" Sousuke said.

He knew that those were the words that he had most wanted to say. He was glad he said them. Being who he was, he felt compelled to continue. "I know you are often angry with me Kaname, disappointed with what I do. I may never be able to change...but I will try, for you."

Kaname remained silent. Her lip quivered.

Sousuke could have dealt with any reaction, good or bad. The quiet unnerved him, made him uncertain.

Suddenly, Kaname lurched forward, knocking Sousuke to the ground, clinging to him as if he were the last thing that kept her from drowning. She remained silent. Sousuke could feel the warmth of her tears running down his own face. He could feel her body heaving against him as she sobbed. Eventually she stopped crying.

Kaname pushed herself up to a sitting position. When Sousuke tried to rise, she prevented him, pushing her hand against his chest and keeping him on the floor.

She wiped her tears away. She smiled. "Those were wonderful words, Sousuke. Wonderful. But, very foolish." Her smile deepened seeing the look on his face. "You made a rather large mistake!"

"Mistake?"

"Yes."

"Kaname?" Sousuke started to feel concerned.

"You sound confused..." Kaname's face was serious now.

"Uh--"

"Sousuke?"

"Uh--"

"SOUSUKE!!!"

"Yes, Kaname...very confused."

"Good!" Kaname said, smiling again. "I mean to keep you confused. That is a woman's prerogative. That, and being right. Always!"

"I see"

Kaname laughed. "I am very grateful that you said you would not hold yourself above me Sousuke. I however, will not promise the same thing!"

Sousuke was shocked. Was she going to take advantage of his honor by putting herself first?

"In fact, I WILL place myself above you. Just like THIS!!!" Kaname jumped on top of Sousuke, starting a long deep kiss. When they finally came up for air, it was Sousuke who was blushing.

Kaname stood up, brushed herself off, and went over to check her hair in a mirror. "Well, Sousuke...that's going to have to last you for a while!!!"

"Kaname?"

Kaname made certain that Sousuke saw her looking at her watch. "OK...it's been a while." She ran and tackled Sousuke, starting the process all over again.

When their emotions were finally spent, Sousuke and Kaname retired to the couch. They spoke about funny thing that happened that day. They spoke about the uncertainties each had dealt with. They touched briefly on certain frightening things, but did not dwell on them. There would be plenty of time in the future to discuss such things.

Kaname took hold of Sousuke's hand. "Sousuke...there is a very big favor I have to ask of you...I don't want you to take it the wrong way."

"Please, Kaname."

"Sousuke, may I please stay with you tonight?"

"Kaname...why..." Sousuke clearly looked uncomfortable.

"Sousuke...it's not THAT." Kaname shook her head. "I'm very afraid Souske. I don't want to be alone. I was afraid that I might lose you to Tessa, today. I was afraid I would lose you in that gunfight."

Kaname squeezed Sousuke's hand. " Your words meant so much to me tonight...but I am afraid that I might wake up and find that they were only a dream. It may seem silly, Sousuke...but if I wake up tonight, I want to be able to see that you are still there."

Sousuke did not need time to consider. There was no way he could refuse Kaname now.

"Kaname...would you please stay?"

Kaname smiled. "Hmmm...I'll have to thing about this one for a moment!"

Sousuke was ready for her. "Oh...I see...perhaps another night, then. After all, it has been a very tiring day."

"SOUSUKE!!!"

"I would like you to stay."

"Fine...I will stay then...under one condition..." Kaname had an evil look in her eye.

"Condition...Kaname?"

"Yes."

"What condition?" Sousuke was getting a bad feeling.

"I want you to tell me how many times Tessa kissed you today, and if you kissed her."

"Uh--"

"Souske."

"Uh---"

"SOUSUKE!!!"

"Uh...let me see...I...it..." Kaname put a finger over Sousuke's lips, silencing him.

"I was just joking, Sousuke. After all, we are both very tired. We need to get some sleep."

Sousuke sighed, feeling very relieved.

"We'll talk about that over breakfast!!!"

The man reported in. He was certain he had not been seen. While Kaname Chidori and her friend had been tailing Sousuke Sagara and the other potential Whispered, Teletha Testarossa...the man and his team had been tailing them.

I typed that ending a number of different times. It showed up in the 'preview' but never made it to the final state after I hit the 'submit' button. Took a few years off of my life. Good thing I checked before I forgot what I wrote.

Luckily, the cut off point was at something dramatic.

a) you missed one:

S&T 1, Bullies 0...first match

Kaname 1, Bullies 0...second match

Mime 1, lead bully -1, final and DECIDING match.

b) yes, Tessa got a nice moment. But Kaname got the better of it, I think.

In other words, Tessa got some icing, but Kaname got a whole cake.
Kaname may end up wanting more...but it will take a while...it IS sousuke we are talking about after all.

c) you had to go and ruin things!

I wrote things the way I wanted to. Finding out that @darkbane (who, for some reason reminds me of Mikey from the Life cereal commercials ) might like it takes the luster off!

Kaname got a long enough lifespan / patience to wait...

c) reading the comments darkbane's been making on my fic
since I put up Chapter 5, it's not hard to tell he's a dyed-in-the-wool
S&K fan. 'Sides, he's been none too subtle about it lately

I don't know about you, but you made Kaname out to be a real
PITA B**** when she finally confronts Sousuke in the end. Mind
games are fun, but I think if any of us were to play, we'd all lose to her
No comment on how fun anyone'd find it playing that with her though...

Kaname's just....................Playful.

She's learned how to wrap Sousuke around her little finger. She just doesn't choose to be subtle about it.

Sousuke has been through a lot of difficult training in his days. At least this instructor offers something more than a kick in the arse and a five mile march in the rain!

Mikey was a kid in a commercial for LIFE cereal (don't know how many years ago). He showed up in one of those 'best of old commercial' type of shows on TV.

He's also an urban legend.

The commercial was about two kids who's parents gave them a box of Life cereal that they didn't want to eat because it looked like cereal that's good for them, not cereal that tastes good.

They say something like 'Let's get Mikey to eat it...he hates everything!' They then watch as Mikey demolished the full bowl. Then they gotta know what it's like: 'Hey Mikey...how IS it?!' I don't think Mikey wants to give them the cereal after that. Mikey could probably use a pair of nukes.

He also turns up on an urban legend website I saw once. The guy who played him apparently is still alive. But kids once passed the story that he died after eating Pop-Rocks candy and drinking soda (I think the claim was his stomach exploded)

Sousuke, now that you've admitted you love me, and I know I have
you wrapped around my finger, I am not going to take FULL advantage
of that, ROYALLY mindscrew you every chance I get, ALWAYS put myself
first, ALWAYS know I'm right... but NEVER tell you my true feelings.
Other than, well.. I don't want you to leave my side. Ever. And ESPECIALLY
NOT for Tessa.

...that about sum it up? Well, it was a pretty happy ending,
I'll give you that...

Kaname is Kaname. She can't change too much too soon. She's already likely given Sousuke an idea how she feels. In between halisenings. And, even though he's Sousuke, he can still see what's coming. Perhaps that's why he's attracted to her...anyone else would be too peaceful, too little a challenge to survive Maybe that's why she likes Sousuke...no one else might be able to survive HER.

As for happy endings...it's like anything else...things don't always just end just because folks find a nice cozy spot somewhere. Sometimes you have to work hard to maintain that kind of thing....

Nice summation. Congrats on this fine piece of work. Now I have
to get back to my own fic and write some more. I do hope you will
take some time to read the other fics here... just simply to enjoy other
