Greetings and a Question (Spoilers EP 20)

Post by URZ-zero »

Hi everyone. I got introduced to FMP through my cousin, and within 5 mins of the show I was totally hook! I mean, an anime mecha show with parody A-Team music!

Anyway, my question:

Why didn't "R" respond to Sousuke and activate the Lamda Driver when he was fighting with Gauln on the island? Did someone tamper with the Arbalest?

My opinion is that in that moment, Sousuke's mind was in too much of turmoil for the lamda driver to work, thus, it failed lauching.
But my fiancee believes that in that case, R would have at least initiated the thing, before the thing itself messes up....so I don't know, but I still think my theory could stand...^^ maybe.

Yeah, the curveball in this was that R was non-responsive. I can't figure out why though.

I assumed it was tampered with.

Ordinarily the emotional overload problem would be what I would jump at, but in this case...Gaulun was too too confident- he seemed to know it wouldn't start up. He was too quick to tease Sousuke about it- the man *wanted* to get on the sub, and he didn't make a serious attempt to kill Sousuke either before or after the failed initilization. (if he had tried to kill S, that blast would have killed Mao)
I don't think, that after 2 failures already, G wanted to go up against S in a straight LD-battle again. He wanted to get at S more than he wanted a fair fight.

So, just my interpretation of Gaulun's behavior suggests to me the ARX was sabatoged. Maybe that's not the case though. There's nothing concrete in the anime.
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

There is plenty to suggest sabotage from what I see. Gaulun's overconfidence, the two traitors on board, and AL's mime act :-D It just seems to make the most sense. Besides, if the Lambda Driver was being spoofed by Sousuke's mental stress, wouldn't it have warned him instead?

My money is on the emotional overload. Gaulun was every time he went in to battle with S over convident so why wouldn't he be the same now? The probelem is there are to many "if's" and we don't know anything about the lambda driver. Ofcourse they could have tamperd with it but then they would have mentioned it some where in the episode.
On top of all that there is the coincidence that S has some trouble with himself. I'll go for the emotional overload.

Yeah to use the LD ... you need to have a clear mind and be focused, ..
He was preoccupied and busy blaming himself.

But maybe the Manga or the Novels can provide more evidence...

Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Hrm... sabotage or emotional overload... It's a tough call. I think it's a combination of both.

Ruri, do you have any input from the novels?

i don't think it was tampered with... in the novel, "R" is a mysterious object even to tess and others high ranking officials. the creator of R is no longer alive so there won't be any help from him. sousuke is the only person who can operate R and he doesn't know how to use the machine to its full capacity. i agree with kodachiko.. he just had too much thoughts on his mind.. not to mention STRESS!! the L-drive system functions according to the user's concectration, focus, etc.... am i making sense??? :?

I'd have to go with the stress. Sabotage is unlikely since the lambda drivers worked on the final battle, unless they quickly fixed er up right after. And if it was sabotaged the technicians should've said something correct?

Your argument sounds good to me :-)
Mechanical / software tampering, I don't think so

Something as complex as the Lamda Drive which uses emotions would focus on the emotional state of the pilot. And after all he has gone through upto that point it's not suprising it didn't work.

A similar comparison is Sho Fukamachi summoning the Guyver after he killed his father. :-P

P.S. Happy new year
