Why do we love abusive couples?
LOL, that's because teens are idiots. The maturity level of most guys are still 8 year olds. 3 stooges? I must say, worst comedy act ever. They need a lesson from Robin williams or Jim Carey.
I still can never understand why violent anime girls are so popular...it's like how people can go watch "Kangroo Jack"...
I'm not saying they shouldn't, frankly i don't really care, but I'm just stating my point of view
Oh and btw @ Jae
Posing in boots.....that's hot
What you do with those boots....like for instance:
Sticking that boot up people's butts is another matter...

Well, see I like Robin Williams although some of his movies suck. But I hate Jim Carrey.
So you don't like girl-on-guy violence, that's cool. But hey, no need to go around telling people to grow up just because they like what you don't.
OT but a girl in a manly pose in any sort of footwear is not really attractive, but that's my opinion. Also my opinion- I also don't think talking about up-the-butt stuff is very mature, either.

The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

...bringing it back to topic
I just ifnd it funny, and often times I wonder what'd it be like to have a girl express her feelings THAT way, and THAT forcefully...
Interdimentional baka hammers, strong right arm, halisens, verbal commands...
yeah, it gets repetitive, but since it works -- and mind you, you REALLY
have to have the sparks flying to make this work... why break with it?
Guy abusing a girl...well, I've seen some where they disrespect them,
but they don't raise their hands at them...
Regards

hey in the shows the guys are always portrayed as weak guys... however.... i tink the japanese animations are trying to portray that hey if sumbody like keitaro can get a girlffriend(a violent one though) you can too..
oh well it is hard to explain this stuff... one man's meat is another man's poison... well...... speaking of girl hitting guys in anime.... i am ok with it as long as it doesn't get too far....
Likuid dun u laugh wen u see kaname hitting sagara with a paper fan when he uses a real gun and fires at a computer screen???? well i myself would like to smack sagara on the head

Jae mentioned slapstick and i think that's an important way of looking at it.
Keep in mind, in these shows people also have blue and lavender hair and can turn super-deformed at the drop of a hat. That doesn't really happen, but it feels real because it's a more-vivid-than-real-life representation.
Keitaro doesn't REALLY go to outer space... but his emotions do, every time he gets a rejection or "hentai!" from a girl he cares very much for. If you've ever acted like a fool in front of the one you love, you'll know that it feels very much like that. one of the appeals of this kind of romantic comedy to me is that is portrays the feelings in a way that is even more uplifting/heart-crushing/mind-blowing than real life. One of the ways it does that is to physicalize what's really only emotional.
So when Kaname whacks Sousuke with the halisen, you can imagine that a real-life Kaname would snap at him or release her anger in some way - much along the lines of the "banter" you see in film's romantic comedies. But in the animation, the world is that much more visual and physical and vivid, so the expression of anger is stronger as well.
the other thing is a point i made about fanfiction ages ago. If the emotions are realistic, the plot can be as outlandish as you please. it's the same for animation. They can use the limitlessness of the visual medium to do whatever the heck they like with the plot, but at the end of the day it's whether we believe in the characters that makes something universal.

done ranting now, really

Cue Example #1: Narusegawa & Keitaro
"Keitaro, you sleazebag!!!" *smack; keitaro flying through the air*
in this case, she'd say something like 'pervert' though. i have a special gallery 'keitaro in trouble'.
Cue Example #2: Kagome & Inuyasha
"Sit, boy!" *slam*
Cue Example #3: Chidori & Sagara
*smack* "You can't carry a loaded gun around in Japan!"
