Fox Hunt...

Chapter 11

Running... I was running away... From what? I was running away from Sousuke... Crying... Yes, I was crying. Crying because that jerk wanted me to trash the entire lambda drivers system and replace it with the original, babbling about how Arbalest was no longer his friend. I imagine that the other people with the project will do as he requested, I won’t.

I had finally reached my destination when, “Kaname!” I turned half expecting to see Sousuke standing there. It wasn’t him. It was Kurz. “What has you tied in a knot?”

“Sousuke...”

Kurz smiled, “what he do this time Kaname?”

I frowned recalling the events that took place just then; “he wants to trash the new Lambda driver.”

“What, what for?”

“He said that it wasn’t ‘his’ Arbalest anymore, ‘he’ said that it wasn’t ‘his’ friend anymore.” I turned back to the door leading in to the room I shared with Sousuke.

“Oh he did eh... Well he must want Arbalest to act the same as it use to. You know Sousuke, military dog to the bone, but...” Kurz gazed at me, I could feel his eyes staring at the back of my head, trying to reach my mind and soul. “He really has never had friends, people has always used him, never truly getting the respect he deserves. Al and Arbalest, even though they are artificial beings, show him a respect he can not find in most people.”

Fury took over! “I respect him!” I shot back at him.

He just smiled and placed his hand on my shoulder, “that’s because you love him. That boy deserves the world’s respect for what he has done for them.” He smirked when he saw me stare at him confused, then laughed. “I know, I know,” he said, “I’m acting like his brother or something, kinda out of character. Well Miss Chidori, this is my little gift to you, a little advice from the real Kurz... Don’t treat him as a dog; treat him like a man. Respect and love him, that is all he ever really needed.” I stood there shocked at these words, Kurz was acting like a mentor, or some kind of sage... He let one more laugh slip as he trotted down the hallway in the direction of hanger two.

Reviewing what Kurz had said to me, I entered my room, dark, as it was the room felt safe. Flipping on a light switch I plopped down onto the soft bed. “I am an idiot; I’m the jerk. Why do I always act like this? It’s cause I put blood and sweat in to bringing out more of my whispered powers, to figure out how to fix Arbalest and the Lambda driver...” With a swish the door opened and closed, but yet I hadn’t noticed it. “I should go apologize.”

“No Kaname, I am the one who should apologize.”

“Huh!?” Startled I searched for the intruding sound, Sousuke was at the source of this noise. “But why Sousuke? You weren’t the one who demeaned me, the one who ran off because she didn’t like what she was hearing.”

He silenced me with a kiss, a warm, gentle kiss. Sousuke had caught me off guard with that kiss. And with a gentle smile he proceeded to explain why he said what he said. “Kaname, the reason I want the original Lambda driver back inside the Arbalest is because I do not trust the new system. I am not saying I do not trust you but... The look in the Arbalest eyes sent a sense of fear running trough out my body and soul. I feel as if though I have seen an Arm Slave with those eyes before, eyes of un-pure red, the color of blood does not bold well with me.”

I knew I would never understand everything that Sousuke said, how could I? I hadn’t lived through half the things he had lived through, and I never would. All I could do now was fall in to his arms and smile. “Ok...” Finally managing words, “I’ll make sure they put the original driver in.”

And with a soft smile he kissed me, holding me in his loving embrace. “We will accomplish this goal some day, but we will bring Arbalest along with us okay.” With those words said the room became silent, it was just Sousuke and I sitting alone in the darkness.

My eyes filled with tears as my hands cupped his cheeks. “Sousuke... We can do anything... together...” His face reddened, and with a grin I kissed him, throwing my arms around his neck and succumbing to bliss.

“Sousuke!!”

I awoke in the middle of the night, frightened by the shout I had just heard. Covered in cold sweat it all returned to me, the dream I had. No, it wasn’t a dream... Nor was it a scream of fear, more like a moan of pleasure. I surveyed my surroundings, it was the hospital ward aboard the Dadanaan. The last thing I remembered was rushing away from a cabin, being lead to a helicopter by... by... Commander Mardukas! Then, come on Tessa, think! That’s right, I wasn’t rushing over to the helicopter, Mardukas carried me over to the copter.

How did it happen? I know, Sousuke’s old fiancee stabbed me then Sousuke rushed in and saved me, then Mardukas carried me out to a helicopter along with the other guest at the cabin as Sousuke went off to fight the advancing Shadow’s. I have to find Sousuke and thank him for saving me.

Fumbling through the sheets I couldn’t find myself. I know it sounds weird but, I couldn’t find my body, only my mind seems to exist.

So this is how it is, one triumph after another. One fight after another. One death after another. Something is wrong with this world of men, how can humans perform these unforgivable deeds. Constantly we kill, we fight, and we destroy. I am nothing but a dog of the endless chaos.

“Sousuke!”

A voice rang through my mind springing me back to reality. I hadn’t realized that it was late at night, around 1 am. A warm entity lay next to me in my soft bed, soon after realizing I was awake a puff of blue hair jumped out from underneath the comforter. “K-Kaname!? What are you doing under there?”

Her grin scared me slightly, but increased my curiosity. Kaname’s grin widened as she noticed the expression on my face. “Wouldn’t you like to know Sousuke!” She giggled like a schoolgirl who had just fell in love.

Sternly I stared at Kaname, “yes Kaname, I would like to know!”

She just kept grinning, “well then, how are you going to get the information out of me Sgt. Sagara?” Kaname threw herself on top of me with her smile widening every second. Licking her lips, Kaname’s face drew closer. Then...

“Sgt. Sagara, what are you doing? And more importantly, why is Kaname on board the Dadanaan?” A high pitched voice bellowed through out the small room, Kaname jumped off of me just in time.

When I turned to see whom the intruder was I could find only Tessa. Fumbling through the sheets I tried to hide my lower regions from sight, some how during the night I had lost my under garments. Tessa continued to stare at me as Kaname silently made her way to the bathroom. “Uh... Miss Captain. I am glad to see you are awake.”

“Cut the crap Sgt. Sagara, why is Kaname on the TDD-1? Answer me Sousuke!”

“I can answer that Captain.” A tired voice echoed from behind Tessa, Kalinin made his entrance. “After the incident in Maine, Kaname and Sgt. Sagara were notified about the side effects of the Lambda Driver. Sousuke was considering leaving Mithril to pursue a normal life along side Chidori but decided to stay with us under the circumstances that Chidori temporarily be assigned to the team ordered with the completion of the Lambda driver.” That about summed up the situation but the look Tessa gave Kalinin was one of disbelief.

Tessa looked around the room and frowned, then she stared at me with her eyes aflame. “You know I could have finished that project Sgt.”

“Affirmative Maam, but you were in a coma at the time so Kaname filled the spot.” Tessa left the room defeated, she let out a growl as she left. Something was wrong with the Captain but it is none of my concern. Turning back to Kaname I frowned, “may I have my under garments back Kaname?”

She looked hurt at my accusations, “what!? What makes you think I took them?”

“You did come out from under the sheets this morning.” She grinned, and in a flash I had my boxers back, with a newly acquired lump on my head. I sighed, “this day will prove to be just like the rest of my days with Kaname.” Kaname apparently took note of what I had said and sent me an evil grin, then I smiled, “I guess I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“From what I can gather, it seems that Mithril is working on restoring the original Lambda driver and fixing that unit. Why they are doing that is beyond me, it would make more sense to just create a new driver unit.”

“Well it has been four months since I have been in hiding on this lame island, I can’t wait to get my hands on that little Chidori bitch. I am going to kill Sousuke too, he had no right to kill his father!”

“That is right little sister, Sousuke had no right to kill uncle Gauron!”

“Correct brother, we shall avenge his death! These new M-10 units we stole from those Yakuza bastards in Kyoto will serve us well. I can’t wait to see the look on Sousuke’s face when we attack the TDD-1 with these things.”

“All plans are to be set in motion now! Move the three M-10 units out, we will attack while the Arbalest is still under repairs. Those Mithril bastards will never have a chance against us. Natsuki, are you going to pilot Venom Mark-2?”

“Of course silly. You think Gauron would want one of you to pilot it, one of his stupid sons that couldn’t even trap Sagara back then.”

“Well we uh...”

“Just shut up you dumb shits! In his eyes I am already his little girl, and what I do is his greatest joy, I will kill my lovely Sousuke with this Venom mark-2, but before that I will squash Sagara’s love interest in front of his eyes.”

“Good plan Natsuki!!”

“You two really are dumb shits! I haven’t even told you the plan. At least Serenity is keeping up with me, isn’t that right little sister!”

“Right! Big brother Sousuke will die for abandoning me back then, I don’t care if I can’t kill him! As long as he suffers!”
