How Did You Discover FMP?

Post by Shewolf of Ga »

I was just a little curious as to how this forum came to be. I have been hacking away at writing a sci-fi novel for the better part of ten years. I'm also an anime freak. A friend of mine who knows me quite well handed me a DVD she said reminded her a tiny bit of my poor novel. I got hooked five minutes in and have been obsessed ever since. I'm reading the boku-tachi translations, and I just placed an order with ADV for the English version of the manga. Can't wait for them to get here!
To quote my six-year-old the first time he saw Fumoffu - "Wow! A giant hamster with a machine gun! Super cool!"

Here's the thread you're looking for, Testimonials: http://fmp.abstratica.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=54

Well, it doesn't really answer how this forum came to be. I found this forum through the website, but how I found the website, I forgot. It was either through the link in the ANN Encyclopedia or google. But by the time I got here, this forum has already lived a year. I discovered FMP via Internet and fansubs.

I've been watching anime since about 8 years ago ^_^. About 5 years ago, my junior year of high school, was when my friend introduced me to "digisubs" and I've kept up with it since then.

I hadn't heard of FMP before the anime was made, but when it was subbed in January 2002 I was hooked on it. After that, I read manga scanlations by MangaProject and AnimeWaves... now the novel translations by Boku-Tachi. I haven't gotten the chance to go buy all the FMP DVD's and manga from ADV (college has me broke all the time) but I plan to soon.

Q. How Did You Discover FMP?

I saw the Ramstein "Engel" AMV .. and liked the mecha, the kabooms and guns and stuff .. not to mention the asuka lip sync ....
Some chaps of my j-course pointed me to FMP ... and the rest ....

I was just a little curious as to how this forum came to be

............................... Every saga has it's beginning .................

.................................... In a galaxy far far away ............................

.... Jae was running a rebel group against all banners on evil the empire (yahoo)........

.... not at same time, in a nearby galaxy a certain someone watched te first episode on fansub.

............. and a pomising disturbance was felt in the force.....

....... which had nothing to do with the fact that Jae opened the forum ......

..................... but i got here first naaah naaah ..........................

.............................. where was i ?? .................................

....... right, as young apprentice i searched for more information about FMP .....

................ and came in contact with the rebel FMP group ............................

............ their leader had a website (including a spelling error) .............

............. and i mailed Jae about the error, got invited to play with the forum and the rest it's history ...

........................................... or is it? .......................................

................ muhuhaaaahaaaahaaa ... i'm your father Taurec ... "nooooo not the face !!!"..........

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

A forum post should be like a skirt. Long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.

Kaname's method(s) of dealing with Sousuke, Sousuke's antics around
school....

Got so I was missing a few times of the anime club I hit the net looking
for ep summaries and found Jae's page. I asked to help with identitfying

I was collecting trading cards, and was interested in off-beat and japan-only sets (in addition to the common ones)
Saw the FMP card game, liked the art, and started chasing down FMP info, back in late Jan 02.

(So.. there's a bunch of books I can't read- bummer! But, there's a manga! and Ah! there will be an anime! and... it's already just begun to air! lucky me!)

I collect cards for the same main reason I collect artbooks, I like the art. So, I started picking up FMP stuff that had art, and started doing lots of scans. Then, it felt really stupid that here I had all of these scans (and started on screencaps too), when I was pretty sure, Hey, I'll bet there might be some other people who would like to see these too. *cough*
(uh.. started uploading in March or April when I started to get the dvds, I think, although the site didn't have the format it has now until August)

Images were my main purpose of the site, putting the rest of the info up there was because it was easier than dealing with the emails I got asking the same stuff. And as I got into the story more, watching the anime, getting the manga, and trying to figure things out from the summary guidebooks, I really wanted to be able to talk about it :)

Then see Tau's post... that was pretty much it. Yahoo made new changes and I began to hate em... looked into hosting a forum for myself.. and, well, now we have it. Opened officially I think Oct 1, 2002.

And the images have been mostly down for a little while, but I'm going to reopen the gallery on Oct 1. (its mostly ready to go, but I want a full single month of site stats for comparasion)

The rest of the site renovation will have to wait for winter, when I'll likely have more personal time.

The future of here.. is unwritten :-D
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

If you must know, I was waiting for my mom to finish shopping in the mall, so I started reading Manga I heard was good. About ten minutes after I started reading FMP, I bought every volume out at the time.
Television was created to show the common people just how ugly they are.

I was shopping on amazon.com for a few books, and decided to get an anime to watch, found it after parusing around, read the info, looked promising, so I bought it. :)

Being the type of person that has to know everything *NOW* I hunted down info, came accross sphere-zero, and wound up here.

The first time I "met" FMP I was reading a magazine about anime and manga.
There was a little article about the story of FMP.
Some months after this, Full Metal Panic was added in the "MTV Anime Night": I saw the first episode and I falled in love! *_*

Got the issue of NewtypeUSA with the first episode on it. Watched it, was really interested but didn't have the money to order the first DVD, so it kinda fell out of my radar for a while.

Then looking for anime online (around September, I think) I saw FMP? Fumoffu! I remembered enjoying the first series, so decided to download the first episode (almost didn't as I was worried about continuality). I can't remember laughing so much ever before, so started downloading the rest and put in an order for all the DVDs currently out with few pennies I had saved away within a few days.

My best friend bought the first two issues of the manga and I read them while she visited from out of town (to see the DC sights). I almost didn't finish reading the first manga because it seemed really stupid, but I with her encouragement I read up through volume 2 and was hooked. (she really knows me well, she knew I'd love Sousuke and Kaname's relationship :-D ) It was only after reading all the manga that I watched the anime.

I actually like the manga more in general than the anime, but I just LOVE Tateo's artwork and I'm more of a book person anyway.

Ahem, I was a bit busy before, but I now can write down.

I discovered FMP the last year, by the advices which a TV channel was making. Soon I informed on the web about this anime, I found it pretty interesting and I decided to watch.

When it was aired, I immediately enjoyed that anime by their graphic style and the nice characterization. I liked soon the peculiar Kaname-Sousuke relationship.

Now I currectly buy the manga, by the way, here in Italy, it has reached the 5th issue.
