Where'd you get that? It looks more like someone's speculation than an actual spoiler.
I don't think the TDD is as important to FMP as this guy might suggest. If the author wanted, the story COULD go on without it. In fact, to be honest, the story could go on without anything if the author wanted. And with the way the focus of the story seems to be changing, I wouldn't take anything for granted at this point.

Frankly speaking, it would be more devastating for the TDD-1 to be destroyed. Here's Mitrhil's US$5 billion submarine, supposed to be the best in the world... and it's blown up. That'll really shatter the TDD-1's crew, because TDD-1 is their home, for all intents and purposes. Even Sousuke would be affected.
I think that guy was trying to say that it would be impossible for another sub to destroy the De Danaan, but as we've seen in Eps. 23 & 24, a Los Angeles-class sub like the Pasadena can take potshots at it - if Tessa hadn't seized control, TDD-1 would be on the bottom. (No thanks to Gauron either, who was taking it to crush depth.)
I myself am not sure if TDD-1 is sunk via another sub, but it's either that or a blitz of Leviathans, of Leonard planting explosives and sabotage.
I'm leaning towards sabotage. Also, even if TDD-1 suvived, it'd be damaged, and there's a problem: ODBD has confirmed that while Merida wasn't THE most important West Pacific base, it was one of the fw Mitril bases with a drydock large enough to support the Tuatha De Danaan.

I'm just full of arguments today, aren't I? >_<
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Mythil itself were destroyed. Nor would I if Sousuke were the one to do it. I'm starting to see some underlying corruption in their ranks at the top and it makes me wonder what their real purpose is.
I seriously doubt it. Look at the context. He's saying that the TDD is a focal point of the story. And while it may be a base of operations for the crew, it's hardly something the story couldn't continue without. I'd be more surprised to see Arbalast destroyed, but even then the story could continue. The only think I couldn't imagine happening under any circumstances is Sousuke or Kaname being killed or them breaking up permanantly. That to me is the only thing in the story that seems to be truly central. Everything else in the story tends to come and go and can be changed or altered.I think that guy was trying to say that it would be impossible for another sub to destroy the De Danaan

Welll.... underlying corruption? Where'd you read that?
At any rate, I agree: TDD-1 destroyed would actually add to the story, and not detract. The focal points are Sousuke, Kaname, and perhaps Al.
of course, if Al and Sousuke form a connection, and Al gets destroyed... may God have mercy on Leonard's soul.
I hope Kurz and Mao get together though. ^_^

That's just my impression. Gauron said a number of things about Mythril in their final conversation that put a bad light on the organization that was supposed to be "champions of justice". I'm not saying they're evil. But I suspect there's more going on than meets the eye.
Yeah, I agree with you on Al. Before ODbD, it didn't seem like much more than a plot device. But when the novel came along, its role got significantly larger and more detailed. If Arbalast were destroyed, I think that it would either have to be a grande finale for the show or the direction of the story would have to change drastically. It would probably signify the end of the Black Technology and Whispered plot element. How that could happen, I'm not sure. Depends on what we find out Black Technology really is.

Mithril is that mystical impenetrable armor that's light as cloth, and used by hobbits on the side of good in The Hobbit and LoTR.Pyrite wrote:Considering how everyone else doesn't seem to like the Intelligence Department... no prizes for guessing, really.
Mithril, Mythril, Myslill (I'm serious, check out the illustration for ODBD 3a, Clouzot's jacket sleeve)... what's in a name anyway?
Myslill.... musta been a mistranslation.

It was just a mis-romanization by the illustrator of the series...understandable when you're writing something in not you're own language.Wild Goose wrote:Mithril is that mystical impenetrable armor that's light as cloth, and used by hobbits on the side of good in The Hobbit and LoTR.Pyrite wrote:Considering how everyone else doesn't seem to like the Intelligence Department... no prizes for guessing, really.

Guessed as much, although FMP never struck me as the type of series with bad English. Somewhere out there, Shoji Gatoh must be thinking the same thing about our romanji.sj4iy wrote:It was just a mis-romanization by the illustrator of the series...understandable when you're writing something in not you're own language.Wild Goose wrote:Mithril is that mystical impenetrable armor that's light as cloth, and used by hobbits on the side of good in The Hobbit and LoTR.Pyrite wrote:Considering how everyone else doesn't seem to like the Intelligence Department... no prizes for guessing, really.

Anyway, back on topic... is there any verification of the TDD's fate? And, for that matter, Kyoko's? Because if things turn out to be as bad as they look, Sousuke and company are really descending into Hell this time.
Spoiler:
The TDD is not destroyed, and Kyouko is injured by some scrapnel when Sousuke is trying to get her out of danger and they are attacked.

@ sj4iy: Kyouko, or Kaname?
There's this illustration from Dragon magazine in Jae's
gallery, that I'm trying to find out if it's actually plot relevent, or just a dramatic setting. The Student Council President, Ren, Mizuki, Kaname, and Kyouko are huddled in a group, with Kaname supporting an apparently unconcious Kyouko, and all seem injured to some extent- they're in front of
some buildings, and the coloring gives the impression that they're facing something burning (the school?) It's listed in the 2002 section though, which is why I'm not sure if it's an actual story illustration, or just a dramatic posing of the characters.

Kyouko. Also, if that picture was from 2002, then it wouldn't be with this story, since this story was written in 2004.Geshron Tyler wrote:@ sj4iy: Kyouko, or Kaname?
