Otafest in Calgary this year... cosplay,
dealers, anime viewing... some new additions, like Otafest Survivor, Mr &
Miss Otafest, Anime Fued & Jeopardy -- which yours truly had a hand in
compiling topics for
...I've yet to tally the damage to my wallet... $500CDN isn't far off the
mark, but in my defence... I HAD FUN!!! and I've got pictures!
Well, not as many as I'd like, but I have yet to go thru them and see
what I shot
I'll post my final report over the next couple days... and Tau, can
I use your thiamat space to host the pics again?
Regards

On a good day, a Tomahawk can fly into the door of a two-car garage at the distance of several hundred miles. And that can ruin your whole day.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Still sorting my pics, but here's the written report:
Friday night: stayed up near the whole night... I had alot to prepare for
and wasn't sure about actually getting up on time.
Saturday: blasted out of the house, but thankfully no showing till 12noon.
Stood in line for about 20minutes for the usual bureaucratic crap. One of
my friends who had made a bunch of Ninja Burger shirts was getting rather
rave reviews with the crowds We even came up with a quick skit of
running around screaming 'Not a Ninja' for s*ts and giggles.
Hit the Dealer's Room, which had a baggage check this year... i'm still
not sure whether that was a good thing or bad thing as I was lugging around
two bags, and checking them together proved to be rather a pain. I was
more pissed when high on my list this year was Madlax merchandies:
none, zip, zero, nada, zilch!!
Anime Jeopardy / Feud: the guy who set this up d*n near drove my crazy
over the last two months hitting me up for help with this... guess not
everyone can know everything about every show / topic What really
made this hard was the Flash file another fellow had set up for the game
crashed on runtime... ooops! So, revert to the trusty pen and
overhead. Feud worked alittle better thankfully, but coordination between
the guy with the answers (Noir) and the guy running the program (me)
was somewhat problematic
Definately want THIS back again next year!!
Cosplay: LOTS and LOTS of cosplay... most popular (again) were
Chobits, Naruto and Inuyasha... with a smattering of others thrown in...
alot that I couldn't identify. Anyone want to give it a shot ID'ing them's
welcome to my shots
Showings: didn't hit that many as I usually do... not to say alot were
repeats, just nothing caught my fancy. Some stuff I've never seen before
that I did see include: Zaion: I Wish You Were Here (alien invasion / drama type of stuff),
Argento Soma (I need to watch more to figure this one out, but looks
promising), Plastic Little (oldie but goldie, and you KNOW the female
figures with be VERY accurate), and Grenadier (looks interesting,
but in all honesty, given the choice between Madlax & Grenadier, I'll
take Madlax anyday).
Financials: don't even ask... what I will say is I got most of what
I wanted, and at some pretty good deals! One of the dealers that came
in was selling anime DVDs at prices which at first look read like the USD
list price Another bonus was finding Madlax V2 three weeks before
the release date YAY!!!
Now for the eternal wait of what's the highlight of the 2K5 'Con year: ANIMETHON!!!!
Regards
