Well, episode 3 was a diappointment. I could have done that enire episdoe in 3 minutes tops.

Oh bye the way, I hate ASROCS.
Becuase ASROCS were usually specials, and let us say that it was considered to be an acceptable loss to make sure a sub never got the CVN.

Part 3 already out? Darn, my bandwidth is being hogged by other things at the moment... Part 2 was pretty interesting anyway.

Fungibles are going to be a big problem for the ship, of course. Once the hitech weapons are gone, there's no resupply... Of course, they aren't storable forever either, I assume. So, you might as well use them, if you don't want to leave them as ballast on board...

I have to say, that the sonar man on board the Aegis needs to have his but kicked. Or how about the radar man? Don't they have mm wave radar, specifically to detect periscopes? Alright, I haven't seen ep. 3 yet, so I don't
know what the action looks like from the 21. st Japanese side, but it does seem like they were caught flat- footed.

I did find the indentification process the US sub skipper did on his target to be
pretty cool though. He assumed of course, that the hangar deck was for seaplanes, and not helicopters, but he knew his stuff...
I've found my inner child. Anyone seen my outer adult?

#5 available from dp... I finally got around to #4. The selfdestruct of the
torp is a myth: If you're gonna drop a special like that, you make D*N sure
you want to pull the trigger. Rather interesting game of chicken between
the USN sub and the Mirai... I was thinking the skipper'd be blowing 6 fuses
from sunday watching the Mirai's maneuverability & acceleration in action :-D
Personally, if the Mk 14s record in the early days of the Pacific War is anything
to go by, the Japanese had NOTHING to worry about

... the BEST part was the scene with Isoroku Yamamoto... for you non-military
history types, he was the primary architect of Japan's strategy in the early
days of WW2, tho I think his discussion with his subordinate aboard the
Yamato expressed another side of him rarely mentioned: that he was
among the strongest dissenters of a war with America -- having served
as naval attache, he knew Japan could never hope to match that kind of
industrial muscle -- but if war was to come, he knew Japan would have to
strike first and strike hard. His infamous 'I can run wild for six months to
a year, but I have utterly no confidence in the second or third years' proved
to be quite accurate after Midway.

// leech mode for #5 activated

...and let the philosophical debate over tampering with history vs.
keeping alive begin!

They don't? It looks smaller than the Osprey and I thought the Osprey is the only craft like that.

Pretty nuts, to die years before you were born.

The preview for ep7 looks like maybe they'll talk about the darker side of Japan's occupation during the war.

Caught up to #6... there was a seaplane version of the Zero?!
and far be it to underestimate the ingenuity of the Japanese of WW2 -- hell,
the Americans & British did and look what happened -- but push a seaplane
to go fast enough to chase an Osprey?! Another thing that bugs me is whether
7.7mm MG ammo would be able to penetrate modern 20th C plexiglass...

BTW, bets as to whether that former IJN officer's legit or going to doublecross
the Mirai in the future? I'm going nuts trying to figure this out, but I
think it adds to the overall dramatic tension.

@Circle
I'd have to agree with that assessment. Much as Japan espoused a
'Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere' in public, it was all about building
their own colonial Empire in East Asia... with them dominating everything and everyone.

Have to say.. LOVING the ride so far! Action mixed with some pretty good
philosophical point and counterpoint.

#7 FUBAR pretty much describes what's going on now....

Traveling down to Singapore, the XO nearly gets left in the lurch
when Kusaka bails on him... in the middle of a secret police? search
no less. Meanwhile, the regular IJN is in an uproar over the Mirai as
additional pieces of the puzzle come together: Mirai's acceleration and
the uberfast autogiro

Nightlife in Singapore reveals a not all that unsavory side of the occupation:
ppl either treat the Japanese with a deference or a fawning. Kusaka's cover's
nearly blown as a former subordinate reconizes him in the crowd... a
subordinate who by all accounts from the Mirai's library said he NEVER
was there.... has the timeline been altered for the good or the worse?

...meantime, Mirai's hiding place has been discovered by some locals
on a night boattrip.... awwwww.... F_CK!!!!!

Just watched it. Oooo, what are they gonna do??? That's like the question after every single episode. :p But from the looks of the preview of next episode, nobody gets killed or shot and Mirai gets more guests to deal with.

#8 was one of those eps you could do in 3 mins or less. Somehow some
add'n inquiries has revealed a large quantity of avgas (3.5 MILLION to fuel
an Aegis?!) and food on it's way out, so Kusaka's former collegue presses
some more and gets close enough to trap both Kusaka & the XO. The gig
up, [ecs]Kusaka reveals his true? motives. He's not playing God, but a MAN
and a JAPANESE. So long as Japan survives, who the hell cares what appens.
Mirai, her crew and her capabilities are merely a means to an end, [/ecs]especially
with the Gualdacanal action less than a month away...

Beaten for now, the XO reveals about the secret password to get past Mirai's
defences... and we're left wondering what will happen now

You think the Mirai alone can defeat the warships and bombers that's on standby? With that excessive range, it can probably defeat those threat before they get in range, but I wonder how much ammunitions and armaments the Mirai has. It'd suck to run out of ammo :p.

'Going Winchester' is NOT high on any military guy's todo list....

Kongo warship specs... which I'm sure the Mirai is. Of which she's already fired
one ASROC and burned up a fair bit of fuel jumping from Japan to Midway
to SW Asia
