Well, I don't disagree that it's been more or less negative. I just don't think it's really out of character.Pyrite wrote:Actually, I'd have to agree with Reaper on that point. What little of Kaname we've seen so far has been pretty negative... and the producers had better follow up with her good side in later episodes if they want to maintain some balance. (And for what it's worth, if they leave in her "Why don't you choke on that apple and die?" line from the Sigma manga, it'll be the last straw for me.)
And even then, though she's been kicking Sousuke around, I don't necessarily think it's a bad portrayal. Maybe not as much romance as some of us would like to see, but it's not like anything she did wasn't justified.

I think a part of it is that as they have changed the twins to make them even more brutal,[ecs] if they stick to the novels then Kaname will really have to prove herself getting away from one of them so making her extra tough and aggresive will make that part more realistic.[/ecs] I do hope they show her softer side more though.

Well, since this is a whole new series of Full Metal Panic!, I think they feel obliged to show the Kaname and Sousuke relationship almost new or nonexistent. There was Full Metal Panic!, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu, and now Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. Fumoffu kind of threw off TSR because there was serious, comedy, then serious again. They might have thought to show the relationship fresh again.

imho not really, TSR is a continuation of S1 and a relationship was / is already established.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

I beg of you to all rewatch the 'Kaname watches spiderman' intro of episode 3.
Now, it's true that she's kinda loud as she argues in favor of the show, but that's also comedic relief. The important bits are:
- Her dissapointment in Sousuke leaving.
- Her caring that he'll miss his midterms.
- Her focusing her attention on conversing with Sousuke immediately.
- Her moan as he's walked out the door
- Her calling him 'Sousuke'; she's the only character besides Mao and Kurtz calling him that.
It's notable that shinji refers to Sousuke as 'sagara kun' and kyoko refers to him as 'sagara san', which is contrasted to Kanames way of reffering to him...
I agree, this is not something that shows they're sweethearts, but, well, they aren't sweethearts in the first place, so I'd say that part is accurate. It is, however, incorrect to say that their relationship has been 'reset' - it hasn't.
Generally speaking, considering how the storyline is supposed to develop (and how it's been developing during these first two arcs), I feel that it couldn't really be done in any other way up till this point...
Well, perhaps I can see how a few scenes are a little bad, but...I'm curious...how would any of you who protest on Kanames 'bitchyness' do the scenes you speak of differently? Which 'agressive actions' should be stopped and exchanged for something else? Since Kaname has only been in, as far as I can calculate, 8 or so scenes up till this point, it should be easy enough to pinpoint the exact problems, and offer a viable solution...

I'll grant you that argument, but it's so subtle it completely went by me when I was watching it. The only thing I remember was Kaname whining over her TV show. I know, I'm shallow, but you have to remember that regular viewers only get one pass at that scene, and first impressions are everything.AEmer wrote:I beg of you to all rewatch the 'Kaname watches spiderman' intro of episode 3.

And personally, I wouldn't do any particular scenes differently, but a little balance would be good - since this is original material anyway, give her character a little more exposure (and I'm not talking bikinis), maybe make that previous scene a little more blatant, and so on. Right now, I can't help but think that some impressionable newb is getting the wrong impression.

Yup, as soon as she understood what was going on, she wasn't late in complimenting Sousuke
Anyway, I agree that it isn't entirely obvious that Kaname and Sousuke are fond of eachother. But I don't think I'd want it to be up till this point either. The material in the novel must not be compromised by these first few episodes.

I do not thing all that happened in season 1 has become non existent. We must remember that Kaname is awfully wishy washy about her feelings and Sousuke is just clueless. Kaname is also bipolar so one minute she can smile and be happy in Sousuke's presence and the next minute...well I think you all know. Also with all the mayhem those two get up to is there really any opportunity for romance?
