Now that I think about it, Tessa has both been called by her first name and hugged/comforted by Sousuke (but this was at Chidori's urging in the last ep. of the first season of FMP) . Oh and another thing, how come Chidori didn't use those killer moves on Yu Lan when she was getting chased all over the place. I just felt kinda sorry for Sousuke getting kneed in the face .
I guess Im the only one who hated this episode.
at the beginning it was serious scene and then they just go to a comic version of Chidori appearing all of a sudden and laying it to Sagara? It took all the meaning of the serious scene.
Through out the series, they build Gate as the main villian and to have Sagara defeat him so easily and his list of hentchman just destroyed that. In replace, they had Boy being depressed being without Girl and when Girl shows up and gives a little chat, Boys finds the power within to defeat the bad guys. This was out of some 80's movie
the only good thing of this episode was showing a crotch shot of Tessa

lol...
Well, it is 100% as depicted in the novel though with much much better timing overall - as silly as it felt to watch chidori, imagine reading about it instead...
It's not like the animation team could do anything about Sousuke defeating those enemies quickly like that - he's supposed to. And it's not as if they could do anything about chidori behaving like that - while, in the novel, it was used as a means to get things back on track (because there was only like 30-40 pages of novel left to wrap up on), here, atleast they used it to gear up for the climax...
When you look at what they had to work with, I think they did a really good job...but then, I also think that a fair bit of what was covered in this ep was done rather...well...I wasn't happy with the novel.

Is it just me, or are there way too many talking decapitated heads around these days?
As opposed to FMP being the literary peak of the decade? Sousuke looking like a wimp is Gatoh's fault though. Anyway, behind every strong man there is an even stronger woman, right?danny wrote:Through out the series, they build Gate as the main villian and to have Sagara defeat him so easily and his list of hentchman just destroyed that. well sorry, if you got little to work with then you are going to have a crappy episode. it is not their fault and they just follow the novel, it was badly written cause they had to crunch sooo much at the end. This is the only time I encounter that it would of been better to not follow the source. They should of made it like an hour special or something or 90 minutes.
Jesus, they should of kept the serious scene in continuation with Chidori running to his arms and finally crying and having an emotional moment like when she did in the end of the episode.
Then they should cut to a good battle between Mithril and Armagad after killing Gauron's female student. We had Mao, that good general that beat Souske, and the Pervert dude battling those Venoms. WE HAD SO MANY TALENTED FIGHTERS FOR LIKE A BATTLE ROYAL. Both sides showing what they had and showing wicked moves, like when Mao fought one of the Sisters. (didnt know they were made so useless in this final scene to Souske and his machine, the Arbalest!)
After that Souske would jump in to help save the day and have a good long battle with Gate, like when he fought Gauron of FMP 1 and his childhood friend,, he had to really work it to win. Using his supermoves and accepting his machine, delivers the final blow and ending the threat that is GATE!!!
And another thing, I belive a scene should of been given to the sisters after it was all said and done, a last respect sort of say to them, for their loyalty, bravery, evilness and the type of characters they were. nothing was shown about them after the final' sisters death.
I think also a scene should of been shown of Tessa, Leornard, and Chidori going at it with their Whispered abilities but this episode was like BAM WAM THANK YOU MAM!!
If there is going to be another FMP, then have leornard as the man to beat;

I think you're looking at it wrong. Gates wasn't built up to anything. I suppose out of our line up of bad guys, he was the top for this series, but this story was never about the burning rivalry between Gates and Sousuke. It was about Sousuke deciding to make his own decisions about his life and realize what was important to him and why he chose to fight. It was about establishing Sousuke and Kaname's connection with each other and helping them further realize how important they were to each other. Gates was just the villain they used as fodder for the plot. So a drawn out final battle was unnecessary and would have been detracted from the focus of the story.
As for Kaname beating up Sousuke instead of a mushy scene, she did it because Sousuke needed to have some sense beat into him. Literally. He's not the kind of guy you can deal with softly to inspire to fight. Not to mention, it was her way of "paying him back" for leaving her. He felt guilty for abandoning her. I think it was her way of making them even.

Shocking revelations!
Kaname is a monster!
Gates is not an AS amateur!
Gates hair is too short!
Very good episode. You can almost tell that they were gearing up for this episode with everything they got. The ending with all that happily ever after type of thing and all that Sousuke and Kaname stuff might have been an overload. Clouzot can hold his own even against an AS with a Lambda Driver, for a while. I hope we get to see more of Wraith soon, looks exactly like the novel illustrations. The ending of Yu Fan was cool with Gates going all out, but it would have been cooler if the whole execution unit jumped on the Codarl and flashed their blades. The episode made the execution unit look more like cannon fodder than the novel did. They tried to get the last bits of fan service in the episode as they could.

Actually, I think that's exactly what Sousuke needs...as we saw during the end, he's just about to hug chidori...he just needs a fair chance, then he'll certainly be a lot more mushy himself...
But then, that's also why he can't have it, so to speak. It'd be the end of the tension, and unless Gatoh could somehow replace that with another kind of tension (very hard thing to do considering how fleshed out the characters are), it'd mean the end of the series...

So I agree with danny...that's exactly what that scene should've been if it was to be 'perfect', but the final episode _exactly shouldn't_ include such a scene, since we want and need another season...it's a little like how Kaname didn't kiss Sousuke at the end of episode 1, and she simply caught a fish instead...it would've been better, but the series as a whole won't allow for it...yet...^_^
One thing I really would've liked them to include is a lot more of Kaname's introspection, and a lot more of Sousuke's as well - even though the scenes illustrated it well, there was still something missing...once I watch the subs for the final episode, I hope they've included some of it through his use of words during those scenes...

Of course not. Kaname went there with the intention of telling Sousuke what she'd failed to tell him before but she wimped out. In effect, it helps them drag out putting them together. Something similar happens later with Sousuke but eventually, they won't be able to put it off any longer. But it's the tension and the waiting that makes it all the more enjoyable when something finally does happen.AEmer wrote: But then, that's also why he can't have it, so to speak. You always assume I'm disagreeing with you. >_< I was just expounding.
Anyway, I thought Kaname's hot and cold, awkward way of dealing with Sousuke was really cute. She wanted to jump into his arms and tell her how she felt, but couldn't bring herself to do it. So she handled it... differently. It's her way of saying what needs to be said but keeping that distance between them.

heheh...
Let me try this:
Nah seriously, I just misinterpreted your 'of course not' - it's not that often people use it to show agreement, so yeah, my question was coloured because of that, sorry
But yeah, it worked out fairly well...even if it wasn't the way I'd liked it ^_^

And now I've finished the rest of the episode. I think they handled the fight just fine. Gates, at best, is the bad guy they used as some filler between Gauron and Leonard. By comparison, he was really just a small fry. I'm sure that he and Leonard will REALLY have some dramatic battles, but there's no need for that here. I wasn't crazy about them using the intro theme music as the final battle theme though. It seemed out of place.
The ending was really touching. Kaname bawled her eyes out to him and chewed him out. I thought that maybe she'd tell him to never leave her again (I think she actually said something like that in the novel) but they didn't put it in here.
The thing on the train wasn't entirely necessary, but it was also cute. It reminded me a bit of DVMC.
Oh, and they made Wraith a woman. Of course... that could be just another disguise. However... [ecs]I doubt it since she looks just like the picture of Wraith we saw in COMO so I suspect that's what she really looks like.[/ecs]
EDIT: Oh, and another thing I loved:
"She's a monster..."
"Say what!?"
"Gah!" ::shakes head furiously::
And Tessa fall down go boom.
