Technically, she's always been there. She was assigned to protect Kaname. Sousuke's actually just there as a back up. There's a reference to her in the first season, though not in the anime.

Wraith was never mentioned in previous seasons of the anime, nor was she mentioned (yet) in the manga, but she was mentioned in the earlier novels.

Heh, I just thought of something... this ep is so much about Sousuke comming to terms with being imperfect himself....

I suppose, all along, that was his problem with the arbalast and the lambda driver. He was reluctant to use it, because he didn't know the outcome...in a way, it's as if he stuck with 'cause-effect' and 'logic'...his technique was skilled, and showed experience, but it lacked finesse, because he didn't put his soul into the use of the arbalast.

Comming to realize his own imperfection wasn't all though, but realizing that people around he didn't expect him to be perfect, and liked him all the same...I suppose that's why he suddenly managed to get back on his feat.
Is it just me, or are there way too many talking decapitated heads around these days?

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Come now, it's so _obvious_ you were admitting to being a wimp...

^_^

But yeah, that's precisely why I pondered it a bit, superficially speaking, it doesn't make any sense :-P

Loved it. :D Besides, it was pretty cool to see :arx-7: in all its glory, especially with Minami Kaze playing in the background... and :kaname: beating down on :sousuke: is always good, especially if it's balanced by some much-needed sap.

It's interesting how Grouseau/Clouzot/what's-his-face became the hostage in this adaptation. Wasn't completely necessary, but still an interesting touch.

What 's worrying me a lot in the anime is that Gauron didn't tell the keyword 'Badham' to Sousuke! In the opposite this clue was revealed in the novel and seems to be an important clue for the DVMC scenario...

I suppose out of our line up of bad guys, he was the top for this series, but this story was never about the burning rivalry between Gates and Sousuke. It was about Sousuke deciding to make his own decisions about his life and realize what was important to him and why he chose to fight. It was about establishing Sousuke and Kaname's connection with each other and helping them further realize how important they were to each other. Gates was just the villain they used as fodder for the plot. So a drawn out final battle was unnecessary and would have been detracted from the focus of the story.

As for Kaname beating up Sousuke instead of a mushy scene, she did it because Sousuke needed to have some sense beat into him. Literally. He's not the kind of guy you can deal with softly to inspire to fight. Not to mention, it was her way of "paying him back" for leaving her. He felt guilty for abandoning her. I think it was her way of making them even.
blast these computer problems. anyway lets continue

Im saying Gates was the ultimate villian in the series, it shouldnt have been so easy to defeat him, Im not talking about no rivalry here. I just used those scenes on how complex the fighting was and how difficult it was for Souske to win. It should of been the same with Gates, especially when he had sooooo many Venom fighters on his side. It should of been a team effort while Souske getting the better of the fighting and showing why he is tops and his machine the Arablast. Seems to me this scene was to make the Arablast Superior to everything else. Mao and the rest there were just bystanders and became hopeless victims against the enemies while it became a peace of cake for Souske. I mean one of the Sisters alone was handling them on her own. Tired she was by fighting them all but handling them all, the best fighters from Mithril being hold back by one chick in a Venom and Souske beats the crap out of all the rest?????????? How the Gap became that big between Souske and the others is beyond me.

Souske making his own decesions was well established. In the episode with Mao she already told him about he needing to do something different with his life and he told Chidori with confidence.

Souski was depressed because he couldnt see Chidori and even more after he thought she died. Him being beaten up was more comedy than anything else by chidori. It had nothing to do with him feeling sorry or guilty for leaving Chidori cause he didnt want to leave in the first place, that is why he got all depressed.

Still Souske not being to function because of not seeing chidory, thats a 80s flick of Boy not doing so hot cause of not being with Girl and then Girl says some catchy words and then BAM! He now has the POWER!!!!! KILLS THE BAD GUYS.

That chick had a LD the others didn't. It wasn't a battle of skill but technology.

He had the (better)best toy.

That is only one of the factors that made him "depressed".

Yeap. Not trusting the equipment you have to use puts quite a weigth on you. Remember Mao almost was killed with the LD wouldn't start, which was the start of Sousuke's downward spiral.

Souske wasnt depressed because of the Arablast, he had nothing but hatred for the machine. The Arablast didnt contribute to his depression, it was all from not seeing Chidori. Souske was being Souske even after his hatred was shown to the Arablast, he was still seeing Chidori during that time.

Still, my complain is that the main characters shouldnt become obsolete to the point that they become victims or bi-standers. It wasnt LD Technology alone, the writers made Mithril obsolete to the Enemy and then the girl to Gates ( which is understandable) and then the whole entire evil dudes with Venom technology LD gets destroyed by Souske with single blows I might add.

Learnord survive though and having this series end the way it did means there has to be another Full Metal Panic anime series

This was just copied from an old style of finishing a series.

When you consider Tessa's words in Episode 8, where she tells him to get his mind off Kaname and to focus on piloting the Arbalest, it shows the clash as plainly as you could ever hope for. Hatred, depression, frustration, confusion... however you wish to describe it, it's pretty clear that you're supposed to interpret the situation as Sousuke having to choose between the Arbalest and Kaname. (Of course, if the Arbalest's Lambda Driver was perfect, Sousuke wouldn't have so many superiors breathing down his neck trying to force him away from Kaname so he can practice with it, right?)

And regarding the matchups and ending... Obviously, you don't follow the novels. It's not over yet, not by a long shot.
