That was a very long quote, well I know that there is such a thing as a field rank so would it be correct to assume that Tessa's field rank is captain?KashimArbalestAS wrote:I'm 100% sure that the ranks indicated by ADV are all correct pertaining to the personnel of Mithril. All of the ranks of the characters are understandable. Tessa is a colonel as in a rank, but she is the captain of the Tuatha de Danaan. That could mean she is also a captain, which I think is impossible in the military, or that it simply means that she is the captain of the Tuatha de Danaan. When someone is captain on a ship, regardless of rank, the person is called captain because that person is the commander of the vessel. But, if you look at the list of ranks, like said before by others, the rank of colonel in the other fields of military such as the army, marines, and air force, is the same position as a captain in rank in the navy.
Commander Mardukas is of one rank higher as in the navy rankings then Lieutenant commander Kalinin, also of navy ranking. So you could say that the order of higher ranks is from Tessa, Mardukas, and then Kalinin. Remember, Kalinin might have been an officer in the Spetsnaz, but Mardukas was one known as the [ecs]"Duke"[/ecs], and so was captain of his own submarine I think even in the Falklands War. You can read more of it in Boku-tachi's scanlation of The Dancing Very Merry Christmas. So, in that sense, Mardukas surpasses Kalinin in naval tactician, knowledge, and experience by a very large gap. Also, Marduka's the one who takes charge of the Tuatha de Danaan when the captain, Tessa, is away.
What I don't get is why some sites say that Melissa is of one rank higher than Kurz and Sousuke, when she is a Sergeant Major, and they are Sergeants. She would be of 5 ranks above both of them.
