Anime recommendations
I have been searching for some good series to watch lately and since I really don't know what I should get, I was wondering that if you guys could help me a bit with some recommendations. I'm searching for something what I most likely enjoy, based on my favorite series.
My favorites are:
Naruto: I really like the drama and action. Although it has some flaws such as it tends to drag on too much, it's still a very enjoyable series.
Full Metal Panic: Count the original, TSR and Fumoffu here. I think FMP is a great example of a series which mixes drama, action and comedy together all so well. The biggest reason why I like FMP is the drama and characters. Fumoffu is the funniest series I have seen but I'm looking for a serious series with a serious story like the FMP and FMP:TSR. I don't mind having comedy or lighthearted atmosphere, though.
Scrapped Princess: Another series with great drama and action, although there's not much of action. The story is pretty good too and overall I think it's a very polished series with a bit rushed ending.
Major: Just finished watching Major and I really enjoyed it. I'm not really into sports anime but once again, the drama was great and the baseball matches were really good as well.
Bleach: I suppose that the biggest reason I like Bleach is the action. I think it has only a handful of interesting characters but it still has interesting twists and the character development is pretty good on most parts.
Chrno Crusade: Usual reasons. Great drama and action. Nice story and characters as well.
Last Exile: Read above.
So anyway, those are my favorites. I'm looking for atmospheric series with interesting characters, good drama and hopefully some action as well. I'm mostly into fantasy stuff but I don't mind realistic/scifi either. Mix of everything is also fine. A good guideline here would be that anything like FMP is good. :D
And here are some series I have already seen and I'm almost sure someone will recommend:
Full Metal Alchemist
Cowboy Bebop
One Piece
Trigun

Hmmm... Let me think for a moment.
Basilisk-Drama and action set in feudal Japan with 2 supernatural ninja clans that want nothing more than to kill each other.
Trinity Blood - Drama and comedy (in the form of Father Nightroad) with really neat characters. My favorite part of the show was "The Night Lords" arc set in Byzantium. Though it involves the Church and the supernatural, it has a totally different feeling than Chrno Crusade. Darker, if you will.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head but you'll get so many suggestions you won't know what to watch first.

I have been meaning to check out Trinity Blood eventually. I have seen my brother watching it and it seems pretty decent. My friend told me it's pretty bad though.
I saw the first episode of Berserk when it started airing and I thought it was fairly good. Maybe I'll get back to it.
And you are probably right about that I'll get lots of suggestions so if possible, try to suggest your favorite stuff only, or try to stick with great series. That way I shouldn't get too much new anime to watch.

The beginning of Trinity Blood is a bit on the uneven side. The characters grow and change like Sister Esther [ecs]wants to create a world where vampires and humans co-exist, even after some kill her family (the nun that raised her.)[/ecs] The show kicks into high gear with the "Silent Noise" arc. The beginning is more to introduce the characters. All the historical references can be a bit daunting but one group did a nice job with notes about that stuff. I guess it just goes to show how limited American education is. These references add another layer to the show but if you don't get them, you can enjoy the show just fine. (Sort of like me and Narnia. I don't see any of the Christian imagery CS Lewis used but I still love the Narnia books.) With Trinity Blood, my only regret is that there's nothing more to be had as the writer died.DragonSlayer wrote:I have been meaning to check out Trinity Blood eventually. My suggestion would be
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex & Second Gig.
If you have seen the movie you might be biased either in a positive or negative way and I can't blame you. But give the series a fair chance.
animation/story wise it simply blows away just about anything out there.. (until now) (imo)

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Well, I'm Christian and I have studied Religion and I think I'm fairly well educated in that subject. Anyway, it sounds good so I'll check it out.PookaKitten wrote:The beginning of Trinity Blood is a bit on the uneven side. I have seen the original GotS, and I thought it was decent. Not really my kind of thing but it was cool nonetheless. I had a free ticket to GotS2 preview show in cinema but I think I was sick that day so I gave it to my friend. I'm not too sure if I'll ever check it out since I wasn't the biggest fan of the original movie. My suggestion would be
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex & Second Gig.

Well thats the big problem movies !=series
Yeah the characters are there but the series don't dazzle you with the deeper dragging philosophies that are overly present in the movies.
Well I can't tie you to a chair and force you to watch..... <grin>

Legend of Galactic Heroes - 110 Eps of Sci-Fi warfare goodness, and a rather decent story. Long live the Emperor Reinhard von Lohengramm.
Remember kids, trying to start Armageddon is dangerous. Do not try it at home.
[14:57] Silver Lynxy: Ack. You couldn't see that?
[14:57] Katyusha [Love Through Superior Firepower]: Nope, cant see a thing.
[14:57] Katyusha [Love Through Superior Firepower]: Not using MSN remember?
[14:57] Silver Lynxy: Oh right. You're one of those Trillian people, aren't you?
[14:58] Katyusha [Love Through Superior Firepower]: trillian people? =.= What are we, an ethnicity now?
[15:00] Silver Lynxy: Yes. An evil race.

Here is some that I have watched and liked:
Yu-Gi-Oh! TV-Series
Forget crappy movie ordered by WB, this one is great. Yu-Gi-Oh! is centered around friendship as theme. Main charachter Yugi is like most 14 year olds, exept that he is shorter than everyone else. His life changes as he solves Millenium puzzle that gave him great magical powers and other darker personality.
Macross Zero
Story of Macross Zero is based on one year before zentreadis arrived to Earth and it pictures last moments of war between Unification Forces and Anti-Unification Forces that started from discovery of the Alien Spaceship. Lot of story is conserated around mysterious Alien Artifact.
Then ofcourse there is GitS SAC that was already recomendet but I also recoment it.

A basic serie but funny ones: Yakitate Japan (the story of a young and a bit stupid boy who is obsessed by the idea of making a japanese bread tasting better than the traditionnal rice)
Another stupid one: School Rumble.
If you are more in a Shojo mood: Love Hina, Ichigo 100%, Ashiteruze baby, Ha! My (mini) Goddess, etc. this kind of stuff good for relaxing and emptying your brain of the every-day-life annoyances.
Kitsunegaki,

Kitsunegaki,
Well, since I only started actively getting anime last year...
Gankatsuou >> very nice effects and story. Although I'm still a bit disturbed when my sis pointed out that one of the cute girls i liked was really a man. o_O;;
Yakitate! Japan and School Rumble >> as stated above, watch these when you're in dire need of a luagh trip. XD
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien >> a drama anime...which i found really dramatic yet enjoyable.
Shakugan no Shana >> there's a thread about this one here...just check that out. XD
