From the article.

"Meanwhile, excellent recent titles including Maria-sama ga Miteru, Monster, Bleach, Zipang, Emma, Honey & Clover, Kamichu, Full Metal Panic Second Raid, Noein, Rozen Maiden, Mushishi, Kasimasi, Tactical Roar, and Ayakashi all remain unlicensed for American release quite possibly because most American distributors just can't afford them, or can't afford to take the risk of investing in any of them."

It's not odd, either. Sooo many crappy titles have been released, and the Japanese anime production companies have generally not produced anything with a calculated sale to the US, so they could afford to hold back...the prices for some of those shows have been many times too high. Naruto has been sold for a rather insane amount of money, for example.

There's no way this wave of anime popularity could've kept increasing to encompass even the conversion of the crappier titles, as the costs have gone way up.

What's interesting is that if the japanese companies don't find american distributors, fans will keep leeching them right off the internet, and they won't make a dime.

In the end, high quality productions such as full metal panic will no doubt, eventually, be licenced...
Is it just me, or are there way too many talking decapitated heads around these days?

I, too, fully expect TSR to be licensed at some point. It may not be as quickly as Fumo, but if ADV still plans on licensing titles, and if it is true that FMP did very well for them, then it's seems difficult to imagine they won't go for this. An established franchise is usually less of a risk than a wholly new title, no matter how great the existing buzz.

Seems the only plausible scenario for it not being lisenced is if the japanese licenser is demanding too much money and cannot step it down enough. Then of course, both the owner and ADV will be directly affected more than the fans will - possible indirect repercussions aside.

I suppose it's remotely possible that ADV may have to pass, allowing another US company to pick it up, but either way, a US release is damn likely. Hopefully the anime slowdown will mostly result in future US releases being winnowed down to the quality stuff, and fewer 'contractural add-on' releases (ie, crap titles that the japanese company mandates with the license of a more popular title).

Admin note- I'm hijacking the thread title for subject obviousness.

...as a hypothetical exercise, IF ADV couldn't get TSR, who else
do you think's worth letting take a crack at it?

I know for sure I wouldn't want Sony within 10 light years of the title

And what titles has Sony, um, done? From how you're talking, it's probably butchered.

I'd suggest against Bandai for their "creative" edit of a scene in Witch Hunter Robin. I'm sorry, but their translation does not explain Robin's and Doujima's snickers. ("The only thing he can bend..." scene.) If they edit out a dirty joke, there go most of Kurz's best lines.

Hmmm... Pioneer/Geneon? I liked how they did Ai Yori Aoshi, keeping the honorifics and not translating the show's title. Not a similar title so YMMV.

How's Funimation doing with Fullmetal Alchemist? That show touches on some very touchy subjects and I'm wondering if Funimation is handling that well. If so, they might be a good fit for TSR.

TSR isn't licensed nor is it available on DVD with english subtitles .... so if you would buy them now ... you would be buying bootlegs .... and support the child/women abusing maffia and you will burn in hell for that ....
Umm... If you already bought one a while ago... does that mean your damned for eternity? I hope not.

How long after the last episode did it take for Fumoffu to get licensed? I recall seeing it on A SITE'S (don't think I can mention the name...) series list for a while until it was removed due to license.

I know for a fact Sony did the Rurouni Kenshin OVA's, and maybe the Kenshin series.

TSR is going to cost a lot because of its quality.

Quality isn't the driving cost attribute. Its the markitability of the title that determines the price of a liscence.

In that case I still don't know how well the fans here accepted FMP! and FUMOFFU.

'as quickly as' is relative- Fumo/TSR. Not Fumo to anything else.
I could have said, "TSR might be picked up and released slower than Fumo was", and meant the same thing.

Certianly Fumo was not as fast as the few titles out there that have been US released within a year of airing in Japan, but it was a pretty timely release IMO, all things given.

-- Samatha's question about Funi- they appear to be handling FMA very well. Seems the run on CN is unedited... suggesting they're very good to go on TSR.
