That's where that came from! I was on a Gundam wing and various other anime couples site before and asked about that, and nobody had heard about it. (Granted where I originally heard that rumor, god only knows)
So at least I'm not that crazy. The next question is, where did ADV hear the rumor from to include it on their official info? Is it in one of the extraneous fan/resource books?
