[ADMIN] Keep it in your pants and off my screen. RePost
Posted here so it gets read, also posted in site+forum
There's been something I've become increasingly aware of over the past couple of months. It's something that used to occur only occasionally so it was was easily tuned out or dismissed.
Not so much, now.
Yeah, those comments.
You haven't bought me flowers or chocolate, why the hell are you telling me about your intimate condition?
I admit I failed to address this issue properly when it began to bother me, largely because I felt like a hyprocite. I make dirty jokes and drop innuendo without batting an eye. And I like to. But it made me feel as if I didn't have a leg to stand on here.
Damn, I can be dumb! The difference is clear. easy. non-negotiable.
Allowable commentary is not personal or intimate while directed at an individual or object (real or fiction). It should never be personal or intimate. Meaning, don't give me nasty image of you... That's personal. It's intimate. It might be a joke on your part, or just one (not)clever/dirty way of saying 'she's hot', but spare the rest of us. We don't need that level of detail. There are more appropriate ways to express 'she's hot'. This isn't the 5th grade boy's locker room. It's an open, public forum and using that type of commentary, say, in the case of Kaname, is not just disgusting, it's disrespectful to the community at large.
FMP has quite a few hot ladies. And hot guys. And somehow most of the people here have managed to express their admiration for them without resorting to penis cliches or descriptions of er.. well, I deleted what I originally typed here for lack of appropriateness. It sets the example for what you should do if you type something nasty.
Now that a formal comment has been made on this topic, this is something that will generate warnings and the rest. If you aren't sure, and think you might PM one of us to ask, then you probably shouldn't bother in the first place.

So, for those of us confused as to what the heck this is about...
You're saying that, if a user, let's call him Bob, wants to express his personal feelings on something concerning any character or object contained within FMP, he is allowed to, unless the thought behind it is sexual and in some way shape and form involves bob himself, right?
Because, from what I'm gathering, Bob is allowed to make obviously explicit statement such as 'I find Tessa sexy' right?
And Bob is also allowed to make statements such as 'I would gladly feed Kanames hamster as she was on vecation', which involves himself and a character, right?
The only thing you have a beef with is if someone crosses the line, and mixes the two above examples up; and as an important part of this, doing that and disguising it as a double entendre will not make it better, because it is the expression and the intension to express that, which is the problem, not the way it's worded (or disguised).
I hope that makes a little sense, but yeah, I didn't see this one comming so I'm a little confused as to the meaning...

crossed the line.. by lately I dont mean in weeks but more like it has
gradually increased since the creation of the forum and now I see em here and there..
As this forum is trying to hold a serious and good standard but also trying to encourage people to express themselves..
its just that there is a line there we do not like people to step over..
and Jae has just pointed that line out so that more people dont do that.
IT'S TRUE THAT WE HAVEN'T SEEN EACH OTHER IN A LONG TIME. BUT YOU ACTUALLY SAID " DO I KNOW YOU? ". IT ALMOST MADE ME CRY ~SIGH~

First off, if you haven't gotten a PM already, don't worry. This hasn't been discussed before, and it doesn't make sense to knock on people for things they weren't aware of.
At least two people here have gotten warnings related to this issue. They are the most in need of watching what they post.
Very few people have gotten into real trouble here, and all of them knew it was happening. I'm not trying to inspire fear, I'm trying to make some of you aware of your behavior.
-----
Second, Aemer, sorry you and maybe others are confused.
This issue hasn't been much of a problem in this particular forum, but I posted it here because it seems everybody reads this forum.
This has been more of an issue in the fan club section, and in a couple of other places, but has been showing up more and more lately.
Saying someone is sexy is not an issue. Saying how a penis reacts to someone is. I don't think it's a good idea to post explicit or semi-explicit comments suggestive of the FMP characters being directly involved in a sex act that couldn't be performed in public.
This isn't limited to FMP characters, but that has been the biggest concern recently.
I equally don't want to know about your involvement in a sex act, or you with anyone else, or anyone with anyone else.
The line is probably best drawn at what I said before- legal/allowable in public (by common decency standards per USA).
Hampster-type comments might not be explicit exactly and in a grey zone, but it's unnecessary and unwanted to post. It's playing with fire to post something like that, if you're unsure if we're gonna 'get it' or not. If your intent with the comment is to suggest the above, then you probably should not post it.
I believe this may have been said somewhere in policy or related posts of mine in the distant past, but if you don't want your Mom, Grandma, or the cute girl in class to see you posting it, then you probably should not post it. I'm not sure how to make it more clear than that right now.
The sort of posts that have led to this one have been left by only a few people, and I hadn't been keeping track of who they are yet. Plus I wanted readers who may have made the same observation I did, to know that it is being addressed, even if I am playing it by ear.
In the future, I would appreciate comments and PMs from you guys, if you see something you think is near the line or over it. We all have different standards of what is tolerable, and I know mine tend to be generous. I don't want that to continue to be a detriment to the forum so please give me feedback if you've been annoyed by this stuff lately.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Yeah, there is. It's all in context.
If you say, "Tessa's so hot, I wanna give her my hampster" nobody's gonna think you mean your fuzzy rat-cousin pet. It's all in the intent, which is assumable from context.
The internet is great about making intent unclear to readers, so be thoughtful about your context.

Maybe we should also limit images of sexual nature (i.e. the near naked pic of Tessa) to the love forums. I got an ear full from a passing by HR person when that pic popped up while I was walking my beat on the forums at lunch time. I avoid the love forums at work since I expect such things to be there but having them appear anywhere will make the forum unwork friendly.

With regards to NWS pictures, one possible solution would be to simply post the link and label it [NWS]. That reminds me... *goes to change sig*
I don't mean to test the limits, but...

So double entrendres, bad puns and the like are "kosher" if they don't apply to a particular individual/party?Jae wrote:Allowable commentary is not personal or intimate while directed at an individual or object (real or fiction).

Well...Making innuendo about how people in general would like to give tessa their hamsters isn't better than reffering to how you would like to give her your own hamster...
Atleast, that's what I think.
The important thing is that public display of intents of hamstertrading between any parties whatsoever will be frowned upon. Keep your hamsters in hamsterballs, cages, or hamster hammoks, and feed them carrots...that's where they belong. Not roaming these boards.
...If you think about it, tho, the intimacy-part of the statement should kill double entendres and bad puns if they're, well, dealing with anything too intimate.

AEmer: *cough* You do realise that I meant "in general", meaning... what happens if the joke is not made with any visible intent of "hamster trading" ( ), but merely to take advantage of a bad pun? (Believe me, I had a couple for this thread.)
For example, those who read my spamfic, "The Borscht Ultimatum", will probably remember that I included an implied comment by Kurz about kicking Sousuke in the borscht. (If you don't get it, you're not missing much. ) Is that off-limits?
Weltall: It's the internet. Comparatively, this place is a sanctuary. (And you know it, don't you?)

Can we please leave the poor hamsters out of it ... <grin>
No thats not off-limits. We have no intention to mess around with fanfic's, in the past we had some very good lemon fics and they all came with a warning attached and this works out pretty good.
Bad pun also shouldn't be a problem.. It becomes a problem when you for example see a fanserviced picture of "insert character" and give us an impression of the size, what you are planning to do with- and the desired position of your borscht. <g>
@WE Sadly but true, The fact that people (staff included) start feeling uncomfy made this "discussion" needed.

As Tau said, puns, jokes, the like, are pretty much ok. I'm as guilty as that as anyone
My primary concern here has to do with being able to put faces, names, avatars, ect... to the acts, body parts, ect, in question.
We do have female readers here, please remember that. We have underage members, and I have no way of knowing how underage. And we also have guys who might not care or want to read that sort of aggressively and personal perv stuff, so this isn't just a girl thing either.
Posts that only have the dirty little schoolyard talk, the euphemisms that makes a pre-pube boy blush, giggle, and sound 'cool' to his friends, is what this is aimed at.
This does not apply to story talk- I mean, people can talk about if S+K, S+T, K+L, and K+T are gonna get it on or not. That's not the issue, as that nature of discussion shouldn't be graphic anyway. It's in the context of the story.
Fics and the like are entirely exempt- although I believe we still have a lemon policy - back from when this site was hosted on a strict no-adult material server.
NWS should become something that gets used more here. Thank you Killer for mentioning it.
I'd like to hear what more people have to say about it, because I still have not figured out a policy style way to word this yet.
NWS will be included, and that label should be used when in doubt.
This isn't even something that the vast majority of you need to worry about. But it is something I've been too permissive of, creating an atmosphere where it becomes difficult for some people to know where 'appropriate' ends. I'm not entirely sure where that is yet, myself, since I don't want to go all puritian here.
I apologize for that.
I just want this to be a place where as many people as possible can read and post without being grossed out, or hyper-fearful.
