Ready .. Setto .. Car pr0n.. Tokyo Drift

Post by Taurec »

Oh glorious joys I don't know what got into me but I watched it.
Now it was quite amusing too and I think that is disturbing.

The story is as short as the miniskirt of Aiko Tanaka (Setto) or Kaila Yu (Ready), you know .. them two import models that flanked the start line.
I wont even bother to explain.....

to quote Berardinelli:
"There's something odd about Tokyo Drift. It fetishizes cars in a way that's almost unhealthy. When the vehicles appear in the same scene as a bunch of scantily clad Asian women, the camera is drawn not to cleavage but to carburetors.

So would I recommend it? .. Hell yeah .. It's nuts, it's shallow fun and it has some of the best "pimped" - omg that RX-7 Veilside rocks - rides on the screen.
But only if you sniff a healthy dose of high octane fuel right before watching.

(Small rant... There is no way in hell that Fairback could stay near that 350Z dammit)

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

I'm somewhat curious of this movie cuz I do like fast cars and hot chicks in short mini skirts...

Also, I'm currently watching Initial D as well. That series isn't as much about cars as I thought it would be (though I already knew that cuz I've read vol1-16 of the manga b4 watching the anime). I'd describe it as 65% is about racing, 35% is about love. Works out pretty well for me. :)

Initial D is almost required study material, there are some references. Like one of the characters in the movie placed a bet to get a Corolla 86.

A forum post should be like a skirt. Long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.

I was once subjected to Initial D...my psyche has yet to heal...my friends and I have a running gag as far as the show goes:

Bewildered Passenger: "OMG, he's driving at 150 mph down this one lane mountain road with no railings, talking on a cell phone with one hand, reading a book, drinking coffee, darning his socks and shifting with the other hand while hugging the curbs at perfect velocity in order to get the least amount of wind resistance! He's a god!"

That seemed to be my impression of the series, anyway.

Now I'd have to say I'm a bit of a drift fan myself. Not in Shimmeh's league you understand. He takes it to a whole new level. But I watched and re-watch and enjoy Initial D. I like to hang out at arcades and play the racing games there, particularly Maximum Tune 2. And of course I enjoy watching difting vids and playing other racing games. Though I really must get a proper wheel for the PC.

But FatF: Tokyo Drift, to me that was a sad pathetic excuse for a film. I was going to watch it in the cinema, as I thought "ok, tokyo + drift = they'll hire jap street racers for the stunts". So I was deluding myself like usual. Now from my extensive backseat knowledge of drift, and my experience in sims. The e-brake is the last method you should use to initiate a drift. yet every single time they use the bloody thing. Where was the talent, the showmanship.

I was to say the least very dissapointed. I was hoping to see some near Keichi Tsuchia level drift. Yet all we got was cars being pulled along on wires, and yankings on the e-brake.

Once again, my rare attempt to assuage my distate for American films has been foiled. Seems I'll just have to stick with Sci-Fi and Anime. Can't really balls that up afterall. [/rant]

And every single section, where they "initiated the drift" clearly showed them wrenching the crap out of the e-brake.

That's true, but the amusing thing is, most of the in car shots were made later .. <grin>

Yeah well I'm picky. When I see something I'd like to know it was done well.
