The booklet that comes with the TSR DVD says that Sousuke's AS suit is bulletproof as well as sword and fire resistant.

However, according to these picture from Jae's site:

It would seem that is not so.

My question would be, Which one is right?

It depends on the bullet in question. In TSR, Mao takes a bullet to the shoulder from a pistol, but there's no bleeding (that I can remember, anyhow), though that was from a pistol.

Most Classes of body armor can stop pistol rounds, but only Class IIIA and Class IV body armor are rated for stopping rifle rounds. Standard rifle rounds would penetrate most forms of body armor, nevermind armor-piercing rounds, which is why the US and most NATO countries use a kevlar "soft vest" with hard armor plates (ceramic, in the US' case) inside the vest, for added protection. It's unknown if the AS suits hold trauma plates inside, though, but it seems unlikely.

What was he shot with? Judging from that pic, I'd say either a rifle or an SMG firing armor piercing rounds.

Definately wasn't shot with a Barret M82

Fire-resistant is definately plausible; current Nomex flightsuits are fire-resistant.

The M82... Hmmm, I wouldn't want Sousuke to be torn in half...

bear in mind fire-resistant does not mean fire-proof

All fire-resistant means is that it won't flare up like a candle wick, but it is still flammable. It only keeps the fire from spreading on the fabric. Of course if your sitting on a heat soure, fire-resistance won't help you one bit

Something that just occured to me: Not all AS suits are equal. Although the SRT's AS suits are bullet resistant and flame resistant, does it state anywhere that Sousuke's using his SRT suit? Because IIRC, in COMO, he didn't have enough time to change; he was piloting Arbalest in mufti...

That could simply have been a really really cheap AS suit which offered no protection whatsoever.
