Well... the author's notes seemed to imply that it was Sousuke's love of the battlefield and the mercenary live that caused him to leave. But now that we know more about Sousuke, we know that he's very much attached to his life in Japan and Kaname. In fact, at the end of ODBD, Sousuke had the opportunity to make this choice, but we know what it decided.

My understanding is that in COMO, Sousuke's perspective on killing is addressed. I won't go into too many details, but [ecs]I believe that Sousuke doesn't fight because he particularly likes it or even chose to do it. It was just the life that chose him and does it because that's what is necessary for him. Going to Japan showed him that he had other choices.[/ecs]

In fact, I believe this is exactly the path that Gauron was hoping Sousuke would take. To be free of attachments to "friends" or Mithril and to live for himself by fighting.

That being said, I'm not in any way knocking this story. I believe this is a dark but well thought out perspective on a path that Sousuke COULD have taken or COULD have wanted, but ultimately didn't.

I'm not saying Sousuke feels any attatchment like liking for fighting, shown when Gauron and he first met. Like in the End of Day by Day, he admits that his only skill is in fighting. Sure he could possibly, or maybe not, learn a different skill compatible to civilian life, but fighting is probably the skill for him that is easiest and most comfortable to him.

Jees, AT LAST I maneged to do that stupid are you a bot or a human -test right. You know, that mess of letters when you try to register yourself a forum user. It took like hours. I just hate those tests... What, am I a bot or something because I cant make sense of that mess  Well, happy end, afrer all :-D

Anyhow, I need to add some comments here :) Yes, this fic is old, but it is just how FMP should end. I mean, everybody has a place they belong, and to Sousuke it is battlefield, liked him it or not. It just is his role to be a soldier, kill and finally to be killed, and find a rest as an unknown soldier. That is how things are ment to be.

I agree, but what we want and what we like does not always be the same thing that what we are. So, I think that fic is actually very realistic, kind of.

Not really, before going to Japan, Sousuke had only known the battlefeild. Now that he has been in Japan and enjoyed civillian life, its obvious what he likes better, and has begun to see his wrong doings. I don't think it will end this way. After Sousuke finally gets Kaname I think he will settle into a civillian life, for Kaname and for himself. This has become apparent since Owara day by day, where Sousuke put Kaname and his needs above Mithril.

I also think that FMP will end that way, I mean civilian life, settling down, getting Kaname, learnig how to communicate and speak about feeling, having some kids and so on. Actually it is painfully obvious... So obvious that it makes me think that maybe too obvious and won't happen at all. Time will tell, and personally I hope something else, anything.

Best would be if FMP would end like in this fic. Not because Sousuke likes fighting, but because it is kind of his destiny. Only thing he can really do, and he just belongs to battlefield.
(English is not my native language, so my writings are pretty crappy. Try to live with it.)

Sometimes the obvious endings are the best endings though, and I think that there is more of a chance of Sousuke being killed in the end then leaving Kaname. The only chance of Sousuke going back to the battlefeild is if Kaname is killed, even that then Sousuke would just go to the battlefeild to die. IMO if they both make it out, Sousuke will lead a somewhat normal life(once a nut, always a nut hey ;)). Jindai will accept Sousuke because of what he did for Kaname, and at confirmation that he has left mithril and we'll be set for more school yard military madness :D

Thank heavens there is always a chance of a good but horrid - Not a happy ending - Japanese style.

Like T & K end up in L's Harem..

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."
