Okay, while I was in a state of ecstasy when reading the book, I immediately got cold turkey after reading SPLAT bullets ... Why god why splat bullets again!!!?? I know they can do better because later in the book they used hollow-point.
Anyway, I like the book.. but there were some parts in it that made me cringe.
Not exactly where in the book but it read in the lines of "totally awesome technology" .. from now on I regard the TP editors as ninja turtle dude and dudettes. <g>
Overall a must have for the fans.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

Having seen Taurec's earlier reaction to "splat bullets" I wondered if that might not show up here.
I noticed they referred first to the Savage Sagara was piloting as having "machine guns," then later referred to them as Vulcan guns (which are actually American-made rotary 20 mm cannons).
Since the Savage is a Soviet-made weapon, I wonder if they were in fact cannon if they wouldn't have been Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-6-23's or some such? But then, I also read somewhere that the RK-92 was armed with two 4.5 mm machine guns, so maybe the whole cannon reference was an oops.
Okay, so I didn't lose any sleep over that. It's just fun to wonder about such things.
And, I did enjoy the novel.

like referring to hotshots and esquire
also about the splat rounds they may be referring to "Synthetic PLastic Ammunition for Training" but in that case they wouldn't have a high kill rate and it would be a acronym and should be capitalized.

Usually he has a Taser .. why bring in something extra non lethal?
Good find btw.
4.5mm is a wiki typo .. it's 14.5mm
(cool ammo ref. ammo )

I stayed up all night reading the book. Want more! And I have to wait till next year! I'm waiting on the vampire Hunter D series too, so now I have to wait twice as much. But I am not complaining. I thought this day would never come.
To quote my six-year-old the first time he saw Fumoffu - "Wow! A giant hamster with a machine gun! Super cool!"
For some reason i sooooo love the fact that Tessa(a 16 your old) is signing sousuke's(also 16) permission slip to go on a school trip lol

I moved the thread into the vets area so spoilers won't be an issue.

I read it at work over my night shifts this past week. Good overall, but some of the writing kind of seemed odd to me. I don't know if it was the original Japanese script and the "unique" way Japanese have of saying things (in comparison to English), or if the translation went screwy, or if the cleanup of the translation was done poorly, but some of the story/flow reminded me of how I wrote when I started fanfic writing 20-some years ago. In some places the author/translator seems to be 'asiding' to the reader to explain things, climbing right over the fourth wall if not bashing it down with an M9.. and other times, like a substantial amount of the pilot/air lingo in the hijacking/hostage-taking scene, nothing was explained at all.
And frankly, the physical spacing of the lines was a little too wide.. there were a couple times I found myself missing a word or two at the bottom of the page because it was tucked off in the corner, so to speak. Yeah, I know that's a lame complaint, but it's how I feel.
Those issues, however, aren't enough to keep me from picking up any further volumes. Bring 'em on!
