Seriously, R Summerfield's very shallow dip into the pool of Otakudom
is so comtemptuously under-researched and represented I don't know why
the editorial board even cleared this article as print-worthy... must've been
a slow news day for them to put it in the 'Real Life' section of the paper today

// insert image of school teacher writing a long burble here about how the
points are so disparate and their amazement you could even string it all
together to form a coherent article

On a good day, a Tomahawk can fly into the door of a two-car garage at the distance of several hundred miles. And that can ruin your whole day.

Not another anime bashing. Reading through the requisite metaphorical analogy setup, i facepalmed when i saw the word "otaku". The west is bastardizing the original meaning of "fan" from Narutards proudly calling themselves it to the media's "anti-social doll/animation loving dreg of society". As with "d'oh!" from Simpsons, sooner or later otaku is going to be added to the English dictionary and twisted into a condescending term.

I don't even consider myself an otaku or try to fully immerse myself into the term "otakudom" because of its obsessive connotation in the english world. Maybe i would in Japan, but not here in the US.

The news is like a race of who can start the next social panic among the ignorant :(

I Guess the Calgary Herald have lower their standers and let their Staff write anything and the editor rubber stamps it without proper fact checking. :bbq: :storm: :halisen:

I am not saying that people who work at a newspaper outlets are dumb.

I thought that even in Japan today otaku has a negative stereotype now more so than in he early days.
It used to be a polite form of "you" during business like transactions between card trading fans.

Funny if you realize that the early western fans stuck their head in the ground and seemed to ignore the negative aspect.

But narutards assured that it will have a negative ring in the western world.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."
