Taurec wrote: Joe, how do you copel with the latency reading from all those sensors?
1) We don't read all of them at once and the latency recorded with the readings. Jitter is more of a problem, but things are surprisingly consistent so jitter is low. Jitter gets worse when things have gone so bad that clock accurate measurements are pointless (i.e. you have exhausted server resources to the point where every thread on the machine is cpu starved or the memory manager cannot keep up.) You can easily pick out the cause that sent it into a death spiral as those measurements are not affected since they were before things slid into hell. (i.e. a service not releasing db connections back into the connection pool, or a message queue that is backing up will have a ramp-up prior to total failure). The system is designed to detect deviations from normal, and allow the user to correlate it with system state at the time the deviation occurred.

2) We work in time slices, where we compensate for the latency when aggregating the slice, if the latency is significant. The smallest slice is one minute.

At least for the first 15 mins. LOL

Tell me about it. we had to go through all supported versions of our software and all 3Rd party libraries and tools to make sure our products are clean. We also had to update all svn and cvs tools, web servers, etc etc. One more week and we should be finished.

#@#!-%&*+#@#& NSA...... you know they put the hole in. They knew about it for 2 years and were actively exploiting it.

afaik it was a honest mistake but the bad thing was the NSA knew about it and didn't tell.

Heartbleed's been on my DILLIGAF list since this XKCD comic was published.

Two takeaways :

1) proof what can be made by human hands can be broken by human hands

2) ...idunno, I'll tellya AFTER the sh*ts finished falling...

Noir and I had a blast on a new L4D Survival Map set on the Golden Gate Bridge... if we can find 2 other human players to play?

Is it installed? Interested in playing?

Personally I like it as it REALLY breaks away from the "look out for #1 only" mindset of FPS games...
and if you can find a bunch of ppl with good teamwork and who play to help one another out, it REALLY
makes the game alot of fun!

Tall and Cold again pls

...don't support this account anymore, but the stupidity level (of the other teams) remains the same

...can't join a computer to the domain they said, the error message said "contact your network admin," they said...
Apparently the moron that sent it didn't bother to check if a) they've got reachability to said DNS servers, and
b) if they're even the right DNS servers...

Steeeempy, yeeeew EEEEEEEEEDEEEEEEIIIOT!!!!!![/Ren moment]

Tall and Cold, pls

Only thing gone dark that I can see is the requestor's brain... Whatever, I filed it under DILLIGAF.

This weekend was Calgary Comic Expo... I don't know why I never went in previous years, but if I have
the time and funds, I have to pencil this weekend off again! This year was the reunion of the Aliens
cast -- I didn't go as that was a seperate ticket event -- but I got to see Matt Smith and Karen
something-or-other. Also got a signature and photo with Garrett Wang of Voyager fame.

Otherwise, the whole point of the exercise was to have fun... I HAD FUN! SO much so I was up till
midnight sunday night not wanting to go to sleep for work today *sighs*

How was everyone else's weekend?
