Facebook and now Pokemon Go is on my "Banned From HELLFIRE's life forever!" list.

Just got back from viewing Ghostbusters. One Word Review : Forgettable.

Opening NY haunting necessitating the formation of the ghostbusters -- check

The geek you love to hate -- check

Kicked out of academia -- check

Search for a new residence -- check

Old firehall -- check

First callout / property destruction -- check

Black everyman joins the team -- check

A**hole skeptic causes chaos -- check

New York threatened and the Ghostbusters are the only one that can help -- check

A**hole New York Mayor assisted by an ever bigger a**hole -- check

Final Battle In A Big Building -- check

"I tried to think of the most harmless thing I could think of" Stanz moment -- check

Honestly should have called this Ghostbusters 1/2, as the MAJOR thing missing from it compared
to the 1984 version was the team's progression from fringe scientists to fullfledged
business / media personalities. Instead the group hadn't figured out the containment unit till
the end of the movie, so the stuff between the 2nd and 3rd acts was more filler than anything.
And yeah, the biggest pissoff as a fan of the 1984 verison is how that previous incarnation / canon was tossed to the wind.

The other annoying thing was how the movie tried too hard to be the cynic / skeptic -- that
should be the job of the audience -- and the "web-enabled generation" stuff drove me nuts
as well (YouTube, Googling one self, etc).

Admittedly there were some (more) amusing scenes worth a good laugh -- the scene of Melissa
Mccarthy and Kate McKinnon getting kicked out of their own institute of higher learning, complete
with multiple bird flips was amusing.

One line they REALLY should have put in the trailer : "Kevin, come get your virginity from the
Lost And Found!" THAT was ALOT funnier than the other stuff in the trailers!

Bill Murray in the "Walter Peck" role.. and gets killed for pushing the little red button EPIC!

Kate McKinnon's sass and effortless "get a laugh out of you without trying" hijinks just makes
her so watchable, mostly because I've one or two friends like that in real life :)

Chris Hemmsworth steals every scene he's in, and TOTALLY plays to the "I'm handsome, muscular,
and a total chick magnet... and I'm going to own it!" throughout.

There's a few new busting gadgets that were good for a laugh ... and massive property destruction.
I WANT THEM!

I also enjoyed the ladies action scenes at the end dealing with the ghost invasion... just wish
there was more of them and that it had gotten to them sooner.

"Awww" moment Slimer and Lady Slimer... riding around town in the Ectomobile

...Tall And Cold otherwise, I'm going to enjoy the (very wet) weekend

Couple friends FULLY into the pokemon craze... getting so I can't tell whether I'm supposed to
stop or not in the car so they can catch pokemon -- okay, they HAVE said "any game talk should
NOT interfere with me operating the vehicle in a safe and lawful manner," but still...

Watched Ghostbusters again... admittedly 2nd viewing I'm more desensitized to it so can just
sit and turn my brain off to watch. Still not impressed with the overall execution.

Also caught the new Star Trek movie... went in wanting to hate it, but there was a fair bit
admittedly to like. First off is the gravitas given to the passing of Leonary Nimoy / Ambassador
Spock onscreen.

- The main villan initially had a "I'm your enemy and I know it" kinda feel, but there's a
MAJOR twist to it.

- The overall Roddenberry Trek feel is back.

- John Cho / Sulu gay controversy is handled in a straightforward, matter-of-fact and dialog-less manner.

- no more bridge lens flares to the nth degree.

- Sofia Boutella just plain kicks ass in this movie, and looks sexy as hell, despite all the alien makeup
and prosthetics.

- Spock and Bones interplay... somehow I think Nimoy and Kelley are smiling at this, though the swearing
in their dialog again is rather out of character.

- Scotty and his "sidekick" are given more to do, as are the other characters.

Things that did kinda irk me :

Excuse to smashup the Enterprise in an SFX-laiden busy-ness, crossed with the usual phaser tag shooting match.

Background on USS Franklin, and the "ancient weapon" Idris Elba's character, and Sofia Boutella's character isn't as fleshed out as I would like. Granted there is a logical explanation of Idris Elba's character,
but the rest just seemed like MacGuffins, plot-wise.

Tall And Cold otherwise, back to work tomorrow.

I hate to admit it's handy .. I just use it in a different portable browser <grin> so there shouldn't be any leakage of cookies.

Lets see how it goes...

Bad Moms opened last weekend but couldn't catch it. Will have to do it some time... Also Suicide Squad is opening this
weekend, trying to avoid all the negative press on it and judge it on its own merits. Will let people know what I think about anything I watch :)

Last Night caught Lindsay Sterling, yes THAT Lindsay Sterling. Who says violin doesn't rock? Me, 30years ago when
I was but a wee lad. Loved every minute of it! Sucked that merchandise-wise was just shirts and posters, I'd hoped
there were some CDs of her, or at the very least the opening act, but not a show stopper.

So immediate thoughts of Suicide Squad : what kinda crack are the reviewers on when they wrote their reviews, and tell me where they
get it so I can avoid those places like the plague?

Also in just the context of the DC movie universe, this is ALOT better compared to Man Of Steel and Dawn Of Justice in terms of
characterization, a more focused plot, and tonally better fitted to the BadGrimDarkKill of that universe.

Speaking as a comics / DC fan, Joker and Amanda Waller are the two most well known / defined characters overall,
so little to say on that score. Leto definately puts his own stamp on this rendition of the character, and it's probably
pointless to compare him to the previous incarnations as the movie establishes that he and Quinn are fullon partners / lovers
terrorizing Gotham, whereas all others have been acting solo. Davis' performance was good but the script really didn't convince
me that she was the kind of person who believed she was God and could have someone killed and hide the body AND the evidence for
the next 2000 years, which I think is a central tenant of the character.

Robbie / Quinn also killed it in this role... and seeing her and Leto in the iconic "Batman:Harley Quinn" costumes and pose -- even
if only in flashback -- was EPIC!! OH yeah, and her in the pigtails, shorts and baseball bat :drools: :drools: SPANK me, please!
I've been a BAAAAAAD boy!

The remainder of the characters were enough of blank slates overall that the movie had a pretty wide latitude to play :
Katana and Moone / Enchantress had tragic histories, but I could get emotionally invested in them and they definately came off as
women NOT to fsck with, as was El Diablo. Smith is basically being Smith, but a friend pointed out he nailed his comics
characterization / motivation in one. Personally the least used character was the "bargain bin spiderman" who dies first and
Enchantress' brother. Wasn't enough of either one shown to get any sense of themat all.

Also appreciate the attempt to expand the DC movie univese with the midcredits scene and references to future Justice League
characters.

Reading over the wikipedia article on him, he's the consummate professional : he may get a kick out killing people, but he does have his limits.
Smith being Smith though probably worked for the character.

Saw Kubo And The Two Strings this last weekend. Technically, the movie's brilliant! The characters I'm sure
are stop motion, but the backgrounds are CG/greenscreen. Story-wise, it had it's issues. The main one is
it takes nearly 30minutes before you get into the characters themselves and the overall story. I also thought
the ending was wrapped up alittle too neatly and in a kid-friendly fashion -- generally these types of stories
"dead is dead" and they don't take kindly to "the powers of heaven" getting captured in a bottle like that.
Otherwise, it definately was entertaining. And Monkey v Beetle was amusing, till you go "WHAAAAAT?!?!"
