Yeah, "doormat" type girls really get to ya .. snif .. :-D

Welcome to the club ..
You have a problem with the "doormat" types? Either that, or you get someone who whacks you once every five seconds.
Remember kids, trying to start Armageddon is dangerous. Do not try it at home.

[14:57] Silver Lynxy: Ack. You couldn't see that?
[14:57] Katyusha [Love Through Superior Firepower]: Nope, cant see a thing.
[14:57] Katyusha [Love Through Superior Firepower]: Not using MSN remember?
[14:57] Silver Lynxy: Oh right. You're one of those Trillian people, aren't you?
[14:58] Katyusha [Love Through Superior Firepower]: trillian people? =.= What are we, an ethnicity now?
[15:00] Silver Lynxy: Yes. An evil race.

Sagara Sousuke is my favorite character, not just in FMP, but in all anime. He is the reason that I am open to watching much anime at all. Many people downplay FMP for being an amalgamation of the most appealing qualities of older anime classics (e.g. saying Sousuke is just another Heero), but if they hadn't gotten it just right, I wouldn't be an anime fan, period; there's just too much bad anime out there giving ammunition to detractors of the genre. Sousuke will always be special for this reason. Besides, as of yet, I have not come across a more compelling characterization... and not for the lack of exposure, I think. (The closest runner-up right now is the late Sagara Souzou from Rurouni Kenshin... not much room there for further character development, unfortunately.)

Now to what's so likable about Sousuke. His heart is in the right place. He's honest, as straightforward as permissible, and wants to do the right thing in every situation. He's exceedingly competent at protecting Kaname, even though he's hopeless at remaining covert (which provides nice comic relief). He's sincere and unwavering in the degree that he cares about others, no matter what their shortcomings may be. He's not crass. (I find that some guys are crass on purpose, because they enjoy being swarmed by all girls present when they deserve a beat down. Hilarious to have in a friend, but preferrably not in the object of my affection. 8) ) He doesn't want (or at least, he doesn't realize that he wants) to get in Kaname's pants. (Heh. Guys, have ya seen the Tao of Steve? ;) ) He's got drive, and a certain degree of poise about his passions that for instance Shinji doesn't have. Okay that's probably quite enough of my gushing.

As for Tessa. Am I the only one who cringes when guys dig women who are submissive in bearing? She doesn't carry herself like she's in control, even when she is in charge. She's also really pathetic in physical situations because she lacks any and all athleticism. (Of course, lots of guys like physical vulnerability in women.) I don't think the anime does a very good job of conveying that she has an unusually high level of intelligence; they label her as a genius and leave it at that. I usually feel some degree of kinship with other women who excel in science and engineering, and I'm totally not feelin' it. So we're left with her looks... Seriously, all the female characters in FMP are cute (with the exception of Tokiwa and her camera). Even Kagurazaka Eri (the teacher) is hot, hehe. Tessa is one of the very few FMP characters that I don't like, and that's quite a feat!

Would love to get into a friendly disagreement with someone. Bring it on!

:-D

Welcome-

I think pretty much everything you said is right on (well, I think Tokiwa is supposed to be geeky-cute ;)).

I just wanted (currently) to comment about your passive girl comments-
this is a topic, that if you browse through some threads, you'll bump into a few times <g>
(we have a couple of not-the-passive type females here, along with a couple of the love-the-sweetie-passive-girls type guys  )
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

"Can I help you?, "you know this section is.." she broke off her sentence as the man walked towards her and nodded, "I think you can Captain".
Tessa looked down, "I haven't been called Captain in 4 years," Wha..what do you want?"
He gave her a devious grin, "I'm here to make sure you keep your promise."

I should also mention that I am very much my father's daughter, and he brought me up on 007. Sousuke is a young, pc version of Bond, ethnically Japanese but thoroughly international in experience and outlook... on a superficial level, what more could a girl want? ;) (Teehee, I find cute Asian guys to be ...well, hotter than cute non-Asian guys... though the traditional Asian worldview that comes with the package on occasion could do with a modernization upgrade. :snooty:)

Thanks for the welcome! And for pointing me to the doormat girl thread. As you guessed, I hadn't bothered to check out the other forums. :D

Boys can be such boneheads. ;)

On a good day, a Tomahawk can fly into the door of a two-car garage at the distance of several hundred miles. And that can ruin your whole day.

I can figure out about the allure of Souske as boyfriend material...
...I'm still working on what's the appeal of Kenshin :?

I know, I don't see it either! He has poofy red hair, wears pink with it,
sports a female VA, and has only two modes, (1) passive (2) psychotic.
*shakes head* Maybe it's the uber-protector angle.
That, and he's great with the kids?

Ah, we're way off-topic! Will cease and desist.
Gomenasai, Jae-san!

Nyyaaahhh...I've never gone off-topic....

When I'm in a hairsplitting mood, I just steal the bad posts away to a more appropriate place. Unless Taurec does it first.
I'm not generally interested in squelshing discussion....never saw much Kenshin myself so I can't add :-P
