Only cause I'm trying to go by memory from last night but I really don't think she calls his name like that in the dub like what we're use to hearing on the sub. She does call him a pervert in that part but I think she just growls at him which kinda disappointed me, I wanted her to say his name like that for the dub.

Ew, if I knew how to get a decent .wav file, I'd be all over it. They translated it, however, (if I recall correctly): WHAT IN THE HELL? Get your damn hands off me, you pervert!

it. I SO think to hear that line in english!!

Well, it arrived on schedule.

I haven't watched it yet, but I did snag some dub samples from the panty episode (it has everybody in it).

They're ULing as quickly as the poor little stupid modem can, and I'll post the location when they're up.

Hmm...I wanna say that the cover and dvd screen artwork looks pretty good. The poster has alot of the profile info and design work that the R2s had (although the images are reproduced smaller).

The dub...well, I always suffer from dub-shock, so I'm not going to judge it.
Tessa sounds a tad breathier than I expected, but it seems to fit...
Kurtz ...sounds like his voice is still breaking. A little bit of shaggy...and in the scene when he's drunk he sort of sounds gay (just IMO).

Anyhow, so no, I didn't get those clips everyone else wanted, you'll just have to live with what I did get, until you get DVD 1 for yourselves

Yeah I noticed too that Tessa's voice seemed to fit but she speaks a bit too low at times.

As for Kurz, I made a comment on a few things about him and the drunk scene. I think the dub makes a bad drunk, just doesn't seem to fit. (and yes *lol* he does sound kinda gay during that scene) And the "Hi Japanese Pretty Girls!" to me is much more funnier and can deliver the line better in the japanese/engrish. Granted it is kinda neat to hear Kurz sound like an actual teenager, but I sure hope that certain lines he has to do will sound better as the series goes on.

What is your view with Melissa? I think at times she sounds to valley girl'ish and she needs to sound more gruff and not so bubbly. She needs to work on that but hey, thats just me.

Oh Mao- well, I just heard the dub for ep 3, and she didn't have alot of conversational lines...
I guess I think it fit. I'd have to listen to it again to pick up on the valley girl thing, but I will say she did seem to have ..hmm...a slightly more tough-girly attitude instead of a full on marine-chick attitude.

Not sure if anybody will know what I mean.
I guess I mean I think she sounds a little flirty even when being tough.

Hmm... no kidding about Tessa's voice not sounding as good. Sagara sounds decent. I wish Kalinin had a Russian accent, and Mardukas doesn't sound the least bit like a limey (pommy for you Aussies). Gauron sounds sufficiently evil, but I dunno... it seems to lack the psychotic feel of the original.

Okay, well, Tessa does sound breathier. But I think it fits her. Hubby says that her Japanese voice is the "f*** me" voice, apparently, so, he was disappointed in that one.

Mao, is a little more feminine, I totally get what you were saying, Jae, but I don't think it's in any way disappointing or grating or wrong-sounding out of her mouth. I kinda liked her having a bit of femininity. I like Mao, she's a great character.

As for Kurz.... I'm going to have to buck the trend and completely disagree. I like Kurz's voice. It was a bit odd for like one or two sentences in the first episode because it does sound younger than the original. BUT the VA, Vic, really is into the part, and I think does a great job. I adjusted fairly easily to the new tone, and thought that the drunk scene and the "Japanese pretty girls" were fine - and hysterical.

Sagara's voice, I have no problems with, other than the initial "too conversational" in those couple of scenes in ep 1. I like Kalinin's voice, and Gauron sounds sufficiently evil because it sounds like Jack Nicholson.

As for the accents, they don't have them in the Japanese, how can it be expected that they have them in English? I mean, good grief, these people already have to translate the story from one language to another that isn't even remotely similar and has several words that don't translate exactly. Then, they have to overcome the fact that some people are watching it with preconceived notions of what the characters should sound like because they've seen subtitled versions. And some people just will never get over the fact that GAH! There's been a *gasp* change!

The dub will not be the sub. That doesn't mean that the dub should be snubbed for being "lesser". It's just different. They've done a good job thus far of keeping the translations very very close to the fansub versions I've seen; the VAs aren't grating, and they're into their parts. This is NOT a sub-standard production by any means.
