New FMP Fics @ BlissfulIgnorance

Hit blackrose & Beck's autre hangout at Blissful Ignorance
and ran across two additional fics that are REALLY holding promise:
At First Sight (a prequel to the events in FMP) and The Devil Inside (FMP
alt character story).

Whatever it takes, PLEASE bring these fics over here!! Man, I CAN'T
put them down!!... must be something in my coffee



Meantime, I'm STILL slaving away at this one particular section in
the next chapter of my own fic. Briefly, the problem is I'm writing
the backstory to Kalinin & Mardukas, but for Kalinin, I can't get the
anime timeline to align to the realworld timeline:
---
1988 - USSR war in Afghanistan ends
1989 - USSR fully withdraws from Afghanistan
...
1993 (approx.) - time when Kashim (8 years old) / Kalinin / Gaulin are fighting in Afghanistan
---
Basically, the USSR has no further interest in Afghanistan (officially)
post-1988, yet what the heck is Kalinin doing in there? The
sightseeing excuse doesn't quite hold water...

As for Mardukas, I'm lacking in some MAJOR knowledge in order to
write his backstory

Well, my personal advice would be to not try too hard to make them fit perfectly. They already had arm slaves at that point, so FMP's history is already a bit different from our own at that early point.
I would guess that perhaps that that conflict extending for several more years might be considered a 'what if' for if those sorts of weapons were available to both sides then.

The personal histories of Kalanin and the others probably look alot like what comparable RL counterpart's might look like, but probably not perfectly given the changes between the two worlds.

Well, after a few nonproductive sessions of bashing my head against
the wall, I THINK I've managed to work something out that'll satisfy
continuity...

Thx for the advice for considering since FMP exists in an 'alternate universe,' the Afghani war could've lasted longer than it has in real life.

Another possible way my original take on the Kalinin / Kashim backstory
was to give Sousuke's supposed age a padding of 2 - 3 years, but I'm
not so sure that idea would fly.

Hehe, well, Sousuke's age is technically unknown.
But I'm not sure how much room there is to make him much closer to twenty. But it's your fic and you can feasibly do whatever you want with it
The closer you want the histories to align, the more you may have to bend FMP's rules, but I'm glad to hear that you're getting through the block

While Sousuke's exact birthday date is not revealed in the novel, he's certainly the same age as Kaname.

In "owaru Day By Day", the 4th novel, it says ten years has been passed since he started piloting AS, and he was 7 at that time. Plus Mao asks Sousuke about his future plans mentioning that he's now 17.

As you know both Kaname and Tessa were born on December 24th and they become 17 in 6th novel "odoru Very Merry Christmas"(a story which takes place 2 months after Day By Day).

Hellfire: Hey!!! I know I've been missing for a while...Found myself overseas for a couple of weeks, and have had a job change, BUT, yes, the fics are very good. I will suggest to the authors to post them over here, although there is someone writing a FMP fic that shall remain nameless, HELLFIRE *cough*, that ISN'T posting it over at Blissful....

I know you gave me permission to post it, but then you don't get notified of replies and such. And I've been mostly lazy lately, too. *hides*

Oh and Liselle, yeah, 'all of my fics' can be quite a daunting task. Archived just on Fanfiction.net, is supposedly somewhere in the neighborhood of 500,000 words, and that doesn't include a few that can't be archived for ratings reasons. Maybe when I hit 1,000,000 words, I'll get a set of steak knives.

I only have 2 FMP fics, though. One's almost done, too. O.o
