*SPOILERS* Season 2, Episode 1

Post by PookaKitten »

I have to say, even with my meager knowledge of Japanese, (Struggling a bit with the review of first year Japanese) I understood the basics of what went on in this episode.

Using the bit of manga I've seen, the white haired bishoen (sic) is the student council president. The character from the chibi ending that I wonder about the identity is the guy with the bandana, since he shows up at the same time as Tessa. Wouldn't surprise me if he's a fellow member of Mithril. If so, what do they have about letting 16 year olds joining?

First half that had Sousuke mistaking that girl's note in his locker for a bomb was hilarious. The two best moments from that segment were Kaname finally getting tired of watching the girl wait for Sousuke to show up, and when she gets up to leave, there is Sousuke in full camo, with his camoflauged gun, and at the very end, when Sousuke was expecting another mail bomb, and Kaname hit him over the head with the harisen, opened the locker and revealed a note and some kind of gift.

The second half was even better. I think the first 2 or so minutes with the war footage was Sousuke's past. I can't wait to see the translation of that. If my guess was right, I think the assignment was to write an autobiography. With Sousuke's track record, what was Kaname thinking, letting him take her homework home with him? What was the "da da da"? I think it was written in katakana (loanwords), based on Sousuke's reaction. Then the process of getting her homework back had me in stitches. Why did Sousuke even need Kaname, since her homework was in his apartment? It was hilarious when she threw him into the street to stop the taxi. Of course it stopped inches from his face. Then was the scenic route back to school though the fields, with Kaname blushing, sitting on the back of Sousuke's bike. That would make a cute background. When Sousuke practically stopped pedalling going up that steep hill, I thought he was going to start rolling back down it. And then when the cops started after them... Maybe they were chased because they were truant from school? The Looney Tunes laws of phsyics apparently work in anime, where you can defy gravity. I was giggling at the maneuver to get into the train, and then when Kaname started beating Sousuke's head against the outside of the train, either because he had her homework on a computer disk, or they were on the wrong train. I could not tell. I could have done without the "Excel Excel" angry teeth, though. Then showing up at school, to find out the teacher had a fever and so class was cancelled. Poor Sousuke, no wonder he passed out.

Overall, the episode was great fun, though the change in character designs, particularily the boys not having a uniform jacket (boo! Sousuke looked so hot in his!) and something about Kaname's facial expressions bothered me. I also didn't realize Kyouko was such good friends with Sousuke and Shinji.

The humor left me in stitches!!! Man, Chidori's a coronary case
waiting to happen... then again, the physical activity Sousuke puts
her through day in and day out, well... she should be damn healthy :-D

Artwise, the char designs aren't too different from last time, but the
colors used aren't as vivd as they were. To me, they seem softer / more
washed out. Other than that...

SUB IT SOMEONE, PLEASE!!!!

The boy with the bandana is Tsubaki Issei and he is an ordinary (or not so oridinary :) ) Jindai student who loves to fight. (using martial arts) He has a crush on Chidori Kaname and he and Sousuke don't get on well.

BTW there was no change in characters' uniform. It's just that they are wearing summer uniform. You can notice Jindai students in summer uniform also in the 1st season:

Heh the start of the 2nd half wasn't a recap of Sousuke's past.. it was actually a passage in classical Japanese literature that he grossly mis-interprets. :)

Just what I deserve for trying to guess what things mean by watching the raw version of the episode. Hmm, that explains the looks that Shinji and Kyouko are giving Sousuke about the assignment. I'd imagine if he was truthful about his childhood in an autobiography homework, he'd get the same looks.

:-D Now the episode has been subbed!! I'm downloading it on BT now, but does anyone know how well aozora is with their digisub quality re: translation accuracy? I ask, because I watched an abyssally translated Tenchi Muyo! GXP episode that I spent more time deciphering the translation due to, in places, little to no discernable English grammar. I don't want that happening with this. ;)

EDIT: After watching a bit of the episode before going to class, I can say the aozora sub has lots of jitter in the image, but the translation itself seems pretty sound. I'll just wait for someone else to sub it without the stutter to permanantly hold onto the episode.

aozora's sub was pretty good. A-Keep will also be doing it, so will compare subs.

i loved it ... it had me roling on the floor a few times ..,

On a critical note some of the jokes are just so predictable but frankly i didn't care.
It looked quite alright but FMP 1 looked a little better ..

IMHO...Just ...wow.....umm....wow....I loved it and I was roflamo at it. I haven't had a good laugh at an Anime for quite some while now. Sure few laughs here and there in other series but this one episode laughed me to tears  I hope they keep up the good work. If u ask me...It was just as action packed as the 1st season's with an intense twist of comedy in it (2nd segment, The retrieving of Chidori's notes...OMG that was a rollercoaster ride with happy gas  ).

...BRING ON THE NEXT EPS!!! :-D

Checked out the Azora as well, and I take back my comments about
the colors being washed out. Either Azora's got a few color filter
tricks up their sleeves, or they get their RAWs from elsewhere.

Meantime, I'm gonna get some flowers for Saeka Ena (in the anime)
and cook up a chill pill for Chidori. Gawd, HOW many times did
Sousuke screw up?!?!
