But wasn't it a not so bright idea sending the Arbalest out, and not giving the pilot, either Sousuke or Weber, a clue of its capability? If he didn't know about the capability and how to use it, they were just setting up for failure. It's like asking someone who can't drive to compete in the Indianapolis 500. Bad, bad, bad idea. As Kaname put it, if Sousuke didn't learn how to use the LD, he was going to die, and he needed a hint to get it to work.

I belive the reason was manuverability. The silver AS was far more manuverable than the M9. Kalinin did say that they 'need to deploy that thing just to keep up with it'. I don't think Kalanin intended the use of the LD, but just the ARX-7's more advanced control systems.

I remember a line said by Sousuke when he talked to Major KAnlinlin after the rescue operation with Chidori and her classmates that Lambda Driver reacts with Physical energy and converts it to another form of energy. When Sousuke used LD for the first time, he was calm and his mind was set of what he wanted to do.

The time when Mao got hurt, that was the time when Sousuke wasnt able to use LD./ He was bit confused there because he was assigned and expected by his comrades to finish off VEnom. He was worried of protecting Kaname and his comrades at the same time.

So.. i think, in my oinion, LD reacts in physical energy or a mind set that is focused. It's something like Zero System in Gwing. Selected pilots can maneuver it without being distracted or insane.

I was wondering about that episode as well, I think what could have happened is that the traitors onboard the Dedanaan disabled the AS' AI. It seems possible since Gaulin did have connections in the tech side of Mithiril (i.e. the ToyBox disk). Since he is resourceful and has been defeated by Sousuke twice before, he had to have taken measures to ensure his survival. THe reason I think this is because there was no response form the ARX7's AI when Sousuke requested it to startup the LD (which is what he had done in the previous battle with Gaulin).

Your take on it is also a possibility, since the Behemoth required absolute concentration to keep its LDs going.

Well we had this discussion a few months ago .. and one thing that we all agreed on, was that it had to do with sousuke's stress level .. he just had too much on his mind to get the thing working.
