Wild guess, sounds like a sensory deprivation chamber with an unknown
way (telepathy?) of directly connecting the user to the main C^2 (command & control)
sys of the Danaan -- anime REALLY loves that 'directly wired to your
brain' method of controlling complex machines

When I first saw that scene, I was reminded of Blue Sub 6 and the kid that sat
in the personal stereo room of hers

Personally I'm not sure what you're asking. There aren't any wires, or plug ins or any... okay I'll stop there.
But probably that is the only place from which the TTD's system can be accessed with the Whispered ability. Surely the system and the room are designed for security, and as for the chair-pod, for all I know, it's just a quiet, calm, secure place for a vunerable, interfacing Whispered to relax and concentrate. If there's anything more to it than that, I don't recall seeing evidence of it. (perhaps the glass cover is bullet proof?)

(imagine if kaname and tessa started cat fighting on the TTD, and each could access it from wherever.... <g>)

Uh, well, yes, that is what it seemed like to her. That she mentally became the sub, in a sense. But those scenes of her were internal, the pod didn't take her there

Personally, if they were going to explain 1 FMP subject in more depth, I would prefer almost anything more than the pod.
(ie, explain gauron. Or how whispered was created. or how humans managed to create tanks that can balance and manuver on 2 feet (without the aid of whispered). just for some serious examples

)

Read the book "Psychic Warrior" by Robert Doherty, it oddly makes psychic wars seem extremely more possible than you want.

I think i finally got it. It's kinda an older version of the lamda driver and connects peoples thoughts directly with it, but connects with dana herself. Kaname says something this when she first sees it
