I've been reading the Boku Tachi translation of FMP: The End of Day by Day 1, and have enjoyed every minute of it so far. Without further ado, highlight the white text to see the spoilers.
Oh, BTW, Sho-dun (showdown?) = first fight with Gauron
So far, my favorite scene is Kaname giving Sousuke a haircut. The whole episode, with him threatening the barber to his almost falling asleep under her care shows so much about him, and his relationship to her. He knows that his reflexes are untrustworthy in Japan, but can not change them, whether due to his sense of duty, or his paranoia being ingrained due to his past. Then there's his confusion about his total relaxation while Kaname's cutting his hair. From the trigger happy sergeant in episode one, who trusted only his comrades in Mithril, and that only reluctantly, to him being willing to put his trust in Kaname is a huge change in character. Maybe there is still hope for him.
And Kaname's reactions are quite telling. She's very shy and unsure of herself, like ruri(?) said. It's so much different than the face she presents to the world. It was also fun to see her contentment with Sousuke's presence and painful to see her worry at his disappearances. She seems even more human in the novel than the anime, but it's probably in part because we can hear her internal monologue.
Then there's agent "Wraith." Hmm, how to phrase this. Ah, here it is. The guy's a schmuck, pardon my French. He considers A21 and Behemoth to be small fry!?! An AS that can level Tokyo and insta-kill M9s is not small fry Though I do wonder who the big fish that he is expecting to show up for Kaname. Maybe I'm off base, but if Kaname's in such danger, why has she not been taken into custody by Mithril? Or are they using the hiding in plain sight strategy?
Then there's the new Urzu 1. I wonder what his story is. I'm curious who Urzu 3 through 5 are.
Let's just say I'm glued to my seat by this book so far.
Edit: About Tessa's "ethically unsound decision," it is portrayed more as her beating her superiors to the punch about withdrawing the Urtz team from guarding Kaname. I'll try verifying that impression when I get my computer back, and have some free time.

Link to where they have all the translations. The Ch4a is just notepad, while you can go into fmp to get ch3b on adobe. I kept on tryin to get it off their IRC thing but after like 30 mins of trying someone finally told me to stop and jus go there since it wasn't working.

I can't seem to find a link to click on for any of the parts of Book2 on their website. The latest I see is Part3A and it's on the sidebar. Had to goto the web directory to get the rest.
