Sousuke's childhood/parents?

Hi all, new member/poster.

I'm writing a fan fiction and I don't want to rub continuity the wrong way (yes... I actually do research before I write!!) but it's been quite a while since FMP Season 1 passed in front of my viewing eyes, so I'm hoping someone with a better memory than I can help.

In *anime continuity*...

- Do we know anything about Sousuke's parents and how he lost them?
- Do we know how Sousuke and Gauln first met?
- Do we know anything about Sousuke's childhood prior to fighting with Gauln as is shown in that first season 2-parter?

If there is a FAQ or other document that has this information, kindly provide me a link as well. Thank you so much.

Welcome!

1) In materials that are released in english, we know nothing about Sousuke's parents. I believe it's the same for what's still in japanese, but I can't promise 100%.

2) My rememberance is a bit hazy, but it seems G had been responsible for the destruction at S's camp (where all his mates died), but that S didn't yet know G. Later S hooks up with Kalinin and likely it's then at S learns about G from K (and then tries to kill him). S and G probably don't acutally meet face-to-face until that AS scene in the stream in ep 5 or 6.

3) same as for #1. Pretty much unknown...

Nope.. (he's a japanese boy who found himself fighting in afghanistan,
a theory could be that his parent were working for the Red Cross or a similar organisation and got killed and he got taken in by a village.)

Tau and I had a little private discussion about it, and it's not possible to determine, from what's in english, if Sousuke and G had really met, face to face, prior to the anime series.

I don't think G knew about Sousuke until S shot him, but G's flashback in episode 5 doesn't fit with that. Possible G simply knew some of the faces of his enemies who were fighting with Kalinin.
Or, that the animator who drew the flashback messed up.

But to clarify what I wrote for #2, G seemed to have been involved with the killing of S's mates at camp in the cave (as he had S's little boy friend with him later). Later S teamed up with his former enemy K, and K knew G, and G was their primary enemy. G arranged for the slaughter of the village they were based out of at one point, and after that is when S shot G, after which they had no interaction until the anime.

All of this info comes from the Homeland trio of episodes which are exclusive to the anime. There is no novel chapters with this particuar story (where Sousuke goes back there with a Mithril team), but we don't know what background material might have been new or might conflict with the novels, if any.

Correct me if im wrong but I think S met G before the shot in the head
Cause G knew S fake name that he used while tracking G

I don't know if that means they met, such a meeting is never described (in the anime). It's possible G simply just knew who his enemies were, but you're right, he did know the name Kashim.

Gauron had met Sousuke before the kidnapping attempt. If memory serves, Gauron recognized Sousuke on the plane.

No he didn't ... .. Sousuke was afraid that G might recognized him. (if that was the case Gauron would have shot him)

I didn't consider that a meeting.... but they did see each other.

I personally had considered 'meeting' when they would acutally exchange words.

1) no, tho I've seen fan speculation abound that Gaulun killed Sousuke's
parents to being Sousuke's father. I subscribe to Tau's theory,
that his parents were somehow involved in Afghanistan and were caught
in the crossfire.

2) no, openended... tho the flashback scene of Sousuke & Kalinin on that
mission to assassinate him seemed to indicate there was some
familiarity

3) no that I know of... see answer to #1

The concept I'm trying to go with in this story is that in Sousuke's past, when he was all Lord of the Flies guerilla boy, he'd been told by a "mentor" that soldiers don't need feelings... I'd hoped there was continuity that indicated Sousuke and Gauln/Gauron (is there any Japanese product that provides a 'canon' spelling of his name? Anime subtitles don't count - c.f. 'xellos' with one 's') were allies at one point... it would explain the hatred those two have for each other - that kind of hatred IMHO is usually produced by betrayal. But I guess my memory is really, really foggy... bugger. Any way this could work?

IMPO, if you're planning on concentrating just on that aspect of the story,
you could be fairly liberal at deciding how much you want continuity to
figure into things. As we've all said, Sousuke & Gaulun's past hasn't
been touched on very much in the anime, that is to say beyond
Afghanistan and a lasting animosity between the two. Be creative!

And I wouldn't worry about being 'shot down,' we're generally a pretty
supportive bunch of writers here. BBQ'd is another matter entirely...

Well, I feel like an idiot. I went back to the summaries of the eps I THOUGHT detailed their past as allies......... and realized that there was another character I'd THOUGHT was Gauln. CRAPpity crap crap crap. This is the part where I rework the entire fanfic.

On the plus side, this is my new favorite place to hang out while I have no work to do.

It's a rather simple switch. It's been rumored, or said, or something that Kalinin was in Spetznaz, and Gauln could have been a comrade of his or something. Gauln's origins are really sketchy. The anime reveals at least, he isn't chinese. I thought he might be russian because of his involvement in Afghanistan/Heljimastan. But...Not real sure. Kalinin and Gauln could have been have comrades in arms. Maybe his Liason for the supplies? Gauln did use Soviet Rk-92s/ Rk-89s after all for his attack on the village. So it could be viewed through that perspective.
