Never stated in the anime, maybe the novel gives a reason why?
Perhaps Kaname exerting her independence in the world and/or
wanting to return to Japan.

I paused the first episode at the part where the trio are reading Kaname's info in Gaulun's office and I read it too but I can't remember it.

Her clothes disintigrated because of the bacteria, and there's a scene where Mikihara Ren is on the floor and she's trying to cover up with her arms and then Hayashimizu kneels in front of her and drapes his wool jacket over her, and they stay like that for a bit.
