Best Soldier?
Could be considered spam..who knows...Just curious on everyone's opinion on who can open the biggest can of whoop ass as soldier. Not AS pilot, just plain soldiering. Other is to let me know if you think Youko Wakana could kick everybody else's asses or something. BTW I say Melissa. She's the most rounded of them and has command experience as well as communications profiency. She's got it all.

Gauron
its Gauron. he is entirely dedicated to his purpose, even to the point of self destruction. all hes interested in is hitting the ball out of the park. No fear. No doubt. No one left alive.
189. The Moral Of The Story (Ghaleon Rule)
Every problem in the universe can be solved by finding the right long-haired prettyboy and beating the crap out of him.
We do NOT fire on angels , son.

Kind of a hard choice, in my opinion.
Sousuke -- He's not the best soldier, albeit a good one. He's still young and learning things and sometimes makes bad decisions, like running away from his mission (FMP novel) or doing the wrong thing (like saving one girl rather than 400 hostages).
Kurz -- Good sniper, but his close-range combat skills seriously need help.
Melissa -- I'll get to that.
Gauron -- He goes insane and is insane. What can I say?
Grey -- I don't know enough to judge well but if she's with a little band of assassin, you can tell Mithril doesn't value her life much, which says something about her value as a soldier.
Seina -- She acts like a good soldier, but she still got hit. That could have been easily avoided. Other things, too, but I won't say them now.
Kalinin -- He's tough, but I don't know. In the anime, he stays almost constantly in one place and gives orders. And in the military, you do what you're good at--which is, most likely, in his case, giving orders.
I think Melissa's the best soldier out of all of them, in general. She has exceptional AS and programming skills (or something to do w/ technology; I forgot), she's mature and responsible, cares for her fellow soldiers, and she came from the Marines, which says something. I'd type more but am in a rush now. This sufficient?

we are talking about a soldier, one who is capable of taking charge AND taking orders. Grey does both... no other thoughts, a fighting machine to the end. also she's in a fairly elite group o assasin nins so she's got some skills. it's not her fault in this anime there's crazy lambda driver users!Kelek wrote: Grey -- I don't know enough to judge well but if she's with a little band of assassin, you can tell Mithril doesn't value her life much, which says something about her value as a soldier.
That's why I said to disregard the LD issue.
There's a reason why Mao is better than her, or rather,
why she isn't the best soldier out of the choices.
For one thing, Mao is in a better position/rank/whatever
you call it. Higher rank. Also, note that when assigned to
assassin Gaulun, no one listened to Grey as much as they
should have. (I don't even know who was supposed to be
the leader here.)
As said, not enough information is given for basis for
judgment. If Gray hadn't been pitted against an AS with
a LD, we could see how she fared as a soldier. But also
note that all we saw were her AS skills.

I just checked the episode.
She clearly states she was in Eastern Europe, not
specifically Berlin, and that there were civil wars and
she joined a resistance movement and operated an
AS. EDIT: Friend just told me it couldn't have been
in Berlin.

AB said something about opening a can of whoop ass. So, I'll assume it's a melee. All vs all.
I'd say Sousuke then, coz he's fought nearly alone before(with Kalinin when they killed Gauron), so he'll know how to handle himself when he needs to fight alone.

lets see:
Sousuke -- he's good
Kurz -- he's good
Melissa -- she's real good
Gauron -- he's dead, killed by Sousuke (well, there wasn't much left of him in the end. oops, shouldn't have said that. )
Grey -- Dead killed by Gauron
Seina -- Dead, mortally wounded by Kalinin
Kalinin -- The best hands down. Even Sousuke stated that he's the hardest enemy he has ever fought, and is difficult to kill.

After him getting torn up by an explosion, cut up by glass, shot twice, sunk in a transport ship, yet he's still alive.
Sounds like hes fit enough.

But he's probably all out of shape by now... 90 kgs and all...
That's what I said. It was a hard decision between him and Mao.
Though he's overweight (and this does not necessarily mean obese;
there's a difference), he seems to be able to pull his weight. But
then again, we never see him doing anything other than giving
orders and some physical stuff. Of course he's tough, but the
question here is if he's the best soldier in general. He has had
a lot of experience, but I think he has his job for a reason, and
that reason not being that he's too high in rank to do anything but
give orders, which may, in actuality, be true, though. I'm not really
sure. Gah! [Me bashes head against a wall.] I need to sort out my
thoughts here.
