I am currently watching the sub, and if it is accurate, then I've got way more insight than before.

It seems that the facility that "Nyuu" escaped from was a research facility, likely tampering with genes and all that.

"Nyuu's" power seems to be called "Vector" and paraphrasing a security guard "we should be safe beyond 2 meters from her." I guess the manual was wrong. Even from episode 1, I can assume that "Vector" has something to do with invisible appendages (all seem to be arms) that "Nyuu" has.

In episode 2, we can actually see these appendages, animated in a ghostly way. One of their properties must be that they are either razor sharp or lightning quick, that would explain how she can slice up everyone.

BTW: I keep putting Nyuu in quotations because Kurama (the head guy with glasses) seemed to refer to her as "Lucy" around the time his clumsy and VERY UNFORTUNATE secretary Kisaragi was killed.

The "sniper rifle" used to... subdue her (intended to kill her) was a 50 caliber anti-tank gun. The sniper aimed for the "occipital region," that is, the lower back region of the skull.

It can be assumed that she would have been killed had she not turned her head, as it seemed that her helmet absorbed most of the punch (still, any normal human would be dead, and that helmet would still have a big hole in it... must be made of Gundanium or Gundarium...)

From this, I can infer that "Nyuu" or Lucy either can't stop anything without knowing it's coming, or that the anti-tank gun really could have killed her no matter what. The sniper stated something along the lines of "this is a 50 caliber anti-tank rifle, she won't be able to defend, even with her Vector."

However, the little genetic freak seems to have precognitive abilities too, along the lines of ESP or seeing the closest possible future, a "sixth sense." It could also be described as a limited omniscience.

BTW, as seen in episode two, it seems like she suffered serious brain trauma, and this might be what causes her Hikari-like (from Kono Minikuku Mo Utsukushii Sekai) split personalities. She exhibited the ability to speak in episode 2 only in her original, killer form. She seems to be able to understand speech, and human body language in her diminutive, mute form though.

Now, that's the bloody part of the ep, moving on to the other half:

From the other half, Yuka (the girl waiting at the station) is Kouta's cousin. They used to play on the beach with Kouta's little sister Kanae... Judging from the reactions of saying her name, I'd assume she's living on her own, deceased, went missing, something like that. But I think Kanae is the little girl with that dog in episode 2.

It's been confirmed that Lucy is indeed "Nyuu's" original name, whether it be a codename or whatever.

"Humanity is doomed once Lucy gets out." I agree

Cut to the special team S.A.T. who will eliminate Lucy.

Hm... "This morning a murderer escaped from prison."

"Bandow," who seems to be an ace in S.A.T. (also a cold-blooded trigger happy man) got that order, and then one punched a secretary, leaving her in a bloody mess on the floor "Never come up behind me bitch" is his response.

Nevermind, Kanae died from an illness, then who is that damn little girl?

Kouta and all the normal people seem to live in Kamakura.

Hm... killed 23 people in 5 minutes just like Arbalest said...

Anyway, that was my review/analysis/running commentary of the subbed Episode 1 for those of you who were too squeemish to watch. I understand your feelings, I don't even know why I'm continuing to watch myself, some of the imagery is quite sickening.

according to the ep 03 lucy attempts to atk kouta but however kouta is not afraid as if he could control her... den looking at nyuu reminds me of doc ock in spider-man 2

From what I saw, Kouta didn't do anything consciously. He didn't even know Lucy was about to attack him. Lucy simply had a vision of a younger Kouta (why and how... I don't know), and that stopped her from completing the attack.

Just for your information, the art featured in the opening sequence of Elfen Lied is based off of Gustav Klimt's work.

A person on the AnimeSuki forums recognized this and kindly put up side by side comparison of the original, and the Elfen Lied renditions.

hmmm caught ep 3 already... masaki is almost there wif the story line accept he didn't mention the pink haired(wads her name?).......

ok in this ep we learn that yuka had a promise wif kouta when he was young but he forgot about it and when nyuu knocks her head she becomes lucy... i thought lucy would have killed the dog but... at least she has some compassion...

insight to ep04: ohh.... lucy u just chopped of the pink haired gal's fingers... omg!!!

I just forgot about Nana... I did mention her in my review of Ep 2. I don't like, another one of those young, naive girls who's helping the bad guys.

That preview scene where Nana lost all her fingers was interesting.

So right now it seems like more agitation to the brain, be it mental (stress, overflowing emotions, etc.) or physical as shown in ep 3 (knocking her head on something hard) will cause the switch from Lucy to Nyuu, and ten back again.

I bet everyone thought that dog was going to die. I was like "WTF, NO!!"

But then when Kaede, or whatever that little girl's name was, her reaction didn't match. She'd be screaming and crying if she saw her precious dog's guts splattered everywhere.

I think Lucy freed the dog because maybe inside, she doesn't like to see anyone tied down/held captive. That's just my theory.

So then you're postulating that the reason Lucy knows him is because she is in fact his sister, or has a part of her inside?

Well, it would make sense, but I can't say anything is for certain right now.

#4 was quite bloody (and funny since somebody released some .srt's)

i have to admit, this series would suck if it wasn't for the gore, the scenes of luuve are soo corney / cliche

what / who are the carriers ?

and kouta seems to have a stange past ... why was he hospitalised again ?
