Question on Tessa's Brother

Post by sgtshermy »

Hey,

I was just reading the 4th Chapter of DVMC and it just hit me, the show and manga talks very little about Tessa's brother but he was a big player in the previous novel. So I was wondering if anyone knows if they dropped any clues about him, besides the fact he exists?

so not to be trusted. Also has eyes for Kaname, and is NOT to be left around
Sousuke for ANY length of time....

Cooking Unknown quantity

Fighting Skills Unknown quantity (for now)

Special Abilities Whispered, able to SERIOUSLY piss off Sousuke without trying

Competition *pure speculation here*

He's also in love with Kaname, and does his best to try to recruit her to Amalgam. He pretty much takes over the role of bad guy after Gauron dies.

Actually, he is Tessa's twin older brother, and his intellect does exceed hers.

I'm not sure he's a "bad guy". In terms of rivalry with Mithril, he is the enemy. This doesn't make him a bad guy. It's not so black and white. We still don't know what his intentions are. Perhaps he is so intelligent that he is playing Amalgam.

Well, I think even if he is using Amalgam to his advantage, he's still a senior member in their organization who has come up with plans to advance his organization's power by any means necessary- the only concession he makes is for other Whispered, such as Kaname and Tessa; he doesn't like hurting them, but he's not above manipulating them to get them to do what he wants (we will see really more of his true nature in the novel following DVMC). As of right now, he hasn't been that big of a player, but he will become so.

Another interesting tidbit, he pilots an AS as well; although I can't confirm the proper spelling from the katakana, it's called the Verial (Plan-1055).

If I'm not mistaken, Leonard was also one of those who anticipated Gauron's breakaway move, and I think he had a hand in the design and deployment of the Astrals.

Um, thats all well and good but none of this is related to the question I asked, I know you this evil guy is what I was wondering is if they talked much about the fact that he's actually the bad guy in any book prior to End of Day by Day?

Leonardo is not mentioned in the anime, and he hasn't been mentioned or shown in the manga as of volume 7. the first I had heard of him, was actually reading some of DD's fanfiction, so until I came upon this forum (and the novel translations) I never knew if DD had created him or not. ^_^

Just to be difficult, Tessa mentions her brother in passing at one point in the anime. I think it might be in the episode when Mao tells Tessa and Kaname about how she first met Sousuke and Kurtz. Tessa had something of an inferiority complex because he did the same things much younger than she did.

Really? I didn't recall seeing that. Well, I've been meaning to re-watch the 1st and 2nd seasons, now I have even more reason too. ^_^

Its is the first part of the 2 parter about the terrorist group A21 and the Behemoth AS (the big red mo'fo), when Tessa is siting at the table in the HS with the wispered boy, Kaname, and Sousuke. Tessa was comparing her relationsihp with her brother to the boy's relationship to his sister.

Episode 10, at 13:10 to 14:15

The dubs go like this:

"
Tessa: Actually, I have an older brother myself

*Sousuke appears suprised, his eyes visibly widening*

Tessa: But we haven't seen eachother for a long time now.

*Sousuke begins checking the window*

Tessa: I managed to get the exact answer for one of Alber Einsteins ten element nonlinear simultaneous differential equations when I was only 6 years old.

*sousukes face doesn't as much as twitch*

Tessa: But my brother manged to get it when he was 4.

Kaname: That's good, isn't it?

Tessa: Yes, but I was always feeling inferrior to my brother.

Terrorist kid: So how...?

Tessa: hmn?

Terrorist kid: how did you get along with your brother if he always made you feel like that?

Tessa: My brother was more like...like my guardian, because he always watched over me. Looking back, it wasn't your normal healthy brother-sister relationship. Does your older sister make you feel like that sometimes?

Terrorist kid: ? Wha...what-do-you?!?

Tessa: It's alright, I understand. Take it from me, I'm someone who's been there.

Terrorist kid: Uh...maybe you're right...about feeling inferrior. To tell the truth, I've always looked up to her...

Tessa: Hey, that's the first time you've volunteered something about yourself!

Terrorist kid: Uh...rmm...*looks away, a little angry*
"

The subs on the other hand go like this:

"
Tessa: I have an older brother

*Sousuke appears suprised, his eyes visibly widening*

Tessa: We're seperated for now though

*Sousuke begins checking the window*

Tessa: I managed to get an exact answer to Einsteins ten element, simultaneous, nonlinear differential equation when I was 6.

*sousukes face doesn't as much as twitch*

Tessa: But my brother did it at age 4.

Kaname: Is that something awesome? (my japanese is telling me it's closer to 'That's awesome, right?')

Tessa: Yes, I was always feeling inferrior to my brother. (My japanese tells me the 'but' in the english version is indeed left out)

Terrorist kid: And...?

Tessa: eh?

Terrorist kid: how did you get along with such a brother?

Tessa: I suppose the most apt way to put it was that...I was rather protected. It may not be a healthy relationship. Do you feel inferior to your older sister?

Terrorist kid: what?!?

Tessa: I kond of understand that. It might be the hunch of a smimilar person, don't you think?

Terrorist kid: It might be a feeling of inferiority, because I admire my sister.

Tessa: You told me about yourself for the first time.

Terrorist kid: *sighs* *looks away, a little angry*
"

I'm glad I went over the scene again a couple of times, because for some reason, the first time I heard the 'may not've been a healthy brother-sister relationship' part, I figured it was because Tessa might've liked her older brother a "little too much" so to speak, similar to what's hinted at with the terrorist kids relationship to his sister... As far as I can see, that meaning isn't hidden within the japanese language, and it certainly isn't in my subs, so *internally wisks away those simi-perverted thoughts*.

Anyway, this does tell us that Tessa has always seen her brother as her 'older' brother, even if they're twins, which is a little odd, but may well be due to her feeling inferrior. Sousukes reaction at this point is also fairly suprising; it's definately intentional. Hasn't he heard of Leonard before this point?, or does he recall the incident where Leonard decided not to be mithril anymore?

I'd also like to know if what's written within the novels match up to what's said in the anime in this scene. I'm just a little curious.

I don't recall any other mention of her brother in the anime, either way.
Is it just me, or are there way too many talking decapitated heads around these days?

Just a thought, but if we're going for ominous-sounding names, what are the chances that it's the "Belial"? (Not that I know what a Codarl is, though.)

And I never did figure out how his coat magically rises up and deflects throwing knives. Don't tell me that's a Whispered ability too... *imagines the potential of a Kaname & Tessa versus Leonard fight... animated* :-D
