Fumoffu vs the First Series ? Answers Here!
Sorry about asking so many questions and starting so many topics, but I just found this forum site and you guys seem to know a whole ****load of info, so I got one more Q ;)
Is Fumoffu an sequel or it's on series? I've heard many say, and I used to think, that fumoffu was it's on little sidestory which was FMP love hina style. But I just watched ep 9 over again, and Kaname remembers being on the submarine, implying that in sequence fumoffu takes place after the original. However it seems as if the Kaname Sagara relationship is totally backtracked in episode 1 of fumoffo. Anyone else notice this?

Hehe, well there are some posts already going over this, but maybe we'll stick this one and change the title for other new people with the same question.
Fumo isn't a direct sequel per se. It's better to think of it as it's own series. I really can't think of another anime that it can be compared to, but it's more like a bonus extra.
All of FMP is based on the original published stories- not manga but acutal written (and illustrated) stories. There are 2 different series of written stories- the full length stories which comprise an on-going plot. The first anime series covers the first part of this.
The second series consists of short stories. These stories are more like little bits of funny stuff- focused more on the comedy between S+K and the stupid and silly situations they get into when they aren't directly tangled with Mithril stuff. Fumo is based on some of these stories.
As for timelines... there's some debate sort of. Not all the shorts mesh perfectly within the longer timeline- but if you were to read the acutal japanese books, there is a suggested order to read them in. I recommend not worrying too much about what fits exactly where- it's probably too difficult for us measly non-japanese speakers to grasp currently, and it doesn't seem to be neat and nicely laid out anyway
In short- Fumo is for Fun ! (yay?)
Not intended for serious character or relationship development, really, but it gives us more of the silly stuff that went kinda missing out of places in the first series. I acutally haven't seen Fumo yet, but I expect that there's quite a bit of stuff in it that's probably there more for effect than anything else

The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

Well, you're right, sort of- Fumo is what many fans would have called filler if it were in the main series
(gripeity gripeity- I know people who complained about 'filler' and others who complained about the lack of 'humor' (ie 'filler') in some parts... bleh... poor FMP can't win either way... <g>)

I'm pretty sure in the episode 'The Goddess's Visit to Japan' the calendar said it was the 9th month, or September. So by that point it was a few weeks after the fishing trip. But that doesn't mean some of the other eps weren't set during the timeline of the first season.
Fumoffu was actually the reason I got into the series. I'd only gotten to see the first episode of the first season beforehand (on the Newtype preview DVD. At the point Fumoffu was on in Japan, I don't think the first DVD had been released in the UK. I loved Fumoffu so much I imported all of the first season from North America!).

Happy Wolfie!
I get to watch Fumoffu! A Japanese friend send it to me, and I'm going to go enjoy it right now! I want a third season really bad, too!
To quote my six-year-old the first time he saw Fumoffu - "Wow! A giant hamster with a machine gun! Super cool!"

In terms of the anime, I'm pretty sure Fumoffu is to be considered a sequel to the first season.
Basically, it's a second season that's done as an after-thought. Between the main story, the manga included a lot of funny lighter stuff. I'd imagine that it was done in the same fashion with the original novels and short stories. So Fumoffu takes some of those lighter or romantic events, tweaks them a bit for animation, and says they took place after the first season. Evidence of this is shown by when Kaname meets Mardukas in school, we're shown a flashback him saluting her during the final arc of the first season.
That puts all three mediums of the story working off their own individual timelines. If the final arc of the first season was supposed to end in August and ODbD takes place in October, I supposed the anime is suggesting that the events of Fumoffu are crammed in that one or two month period. Since it is, after all, an after-thought I suppose it's fair enough for them to do that. Though there is that beach episode which is supposed to take place during the summer, but it would have to be fall to fit in that time frame... but try not to rationalize it too much.
For what it is, it's a very good series. I not quite as deep as the manga's portrayals, but I cracked up quite a bit watching it. And there are witty uses of timing for a comedic effect that you couldn't really capture in a comic strip.

Some of Fumoffu's episodes take place before the Venom incident. It's really intertwined with the first season... base on the manga timeline.
But I think the animators wanted Fumoffu to be able to happen after the end of season1, so they can assume the viewers already know the story of season1 and won't need to be explained about it. So ya, those school yard antics could easily have happened after the first season, even if the manga says otherwise for some of them. ^.^

I'm fairly certain Fumoffu takes place after the last episode of Season 1. If I remember correctly, the beginning of 'The Goddess's Visit to Japan' showed the Tuatha de Danaan undergoing repairs.
Seeing as how the ship's topside got pretty busted up when Souske fought with Gaulun, I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume that the events of Fumoffu happened while the Tuatha de Danaan was in for repairs
