I was talking in general.. when I made that comparison.
It's not fair to do single-frame comparisons like that
look at a "season1" ep and then a fumoffu ep for example: ep 1... and compair sousuke through out... which one has better quality in it! sorry to say this but gonzo put alot more work into the character designes. even if fumoffu has more flow in it (as your bike sequence).. they use different technics to make the effects. either way sousuke in fumoffu has alot less details "in general" than "season1" sousuke.

Gonzo DID go that extra mile in regards to detail. There were times I felt Sousuke was better looking in Fumoffu, but definitely more detailed in season one.

The more I look at it, I think that Gonzo gave the character's sharper features. It makes them look older and more mature. The rounded faces in Fumoffu made them look a little more like kids. Probably why I thought Kaname had a more womanly appearance in the first season as opposed to the cute look in the second.

Hm...you do have a point there, ZyreX - but it's not my bike sequence..., as much as I'd like it, I still can't take credit for it ;-)

But yeah, Season 1 did have more detailed character design.., I'm not sure Fomoffu makes Sousuke look younger, but it's definately the case with chidori....but with the increase in frame rate, that may well have been the price- just like the utilization of various degrees of deformity.

Hm. Now I'm a little more in doubt as to whether the Fumoffu crew will be able to deliver...I'm not sure if the more lighthearted and body-language intensive fumoffu direction will be as well suited for a serious season as it was for the lighthearted stuff. It'll be interesting.
Is it just me, or are there way too many talking decapitated heads around these days?

Hmm... I don't know. That Fumoffu Kaname is just too dang cute for the seriousness of ODbD. :o

heheh, like I said, it'll be interesting...there's _definately_ a lot of potential for varying degrees of fan-service, for better or for worse...if they keep the kid-ish look all through, any kind of fan-service will be a bit weird.

Maybe it should be taken into consideration that Fumoffu was produced on a much stricter timetable, when it comes to onscreen time... you know, that made for less time for the dramatic stills that were all over the first season... in a way, that's how they 'cheated' in the first season: instead of showing all of the action, they alternated a lot to showing long close-ups of the pilots.

Such closeups wouldn't make sense in a series such as Fumoffu, but they will in the second raid, which means that there will probably be another stylistic change in order to keep with the spirit of the first season.. which then poses questions as to whether the new crew will be able to deliver something like that....
yep it'll definately be interesting.

I'm afraid I haven't read all of the threads here, so excuse this noobie question:

Anybody knows what other series the Fumoffu crew have worked on?

Here's a slightly bigger list. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... php?id=235
Keep in mind that lots of anime have more than one "production" company. Animation production, whatever other production.

I'm not picky about animation quality. Don't sweat the details, part-timer. :)

well there you have it!
AniDB seems to lack information in that department..
since only AIR & Fumoffu were mentioned

As for the preview... heh its seems quite promising
though they seem to be using the same tomboyish cuteness style on kaname as in fumoffu...
@_@ (im bothered, booo)
maybe cause I fell for gonzo's kaname and not fumoffu's >_>

Just a thought:

Broadcast in July + 26 episodes (potential length) = DVMC animated??? (I know, I know, Fumoffu was only approx. 12 episodes long, but that's another matter.)

you know.. they could just stick us with 13 episodes instead. NOOOO!

btw, Kyoto Ani seems to be a new studio... since their presence isn't very much known.

By the looks of that preview, it seems to be entirely based on ODbD.

For those who don't know anything about the novels, it could also be assumed that it'll be based off "Kurz and Mao go to Sicily". :-P It's just a thought, but I also considered the possibility that previews don't necessarily show information on anything more than the first few episodes.

"Kurz and Mao go to Sicily"? What's that?

Personally, I feel (regardless of what a certain mutual aquaintance thinks, since I doubt he comes here) that GONZO could have salvaged their lineup for 2005 if they were doing 2nd Raid.

I prefer the animation in FMP! than Fumoffu - they all look younger.... and Kaname's too cute.
