...meh... uhhh... errr... nmmm....

I'll allow it :-D So Arbalest has gatlings mounted on the side of it's head...
nope, I don't think I've ever seen THAT before!

To close the can o' worms about 'who has better animation,' let's just say
I HOPE the don't use up the budget in the 1st couple eps and leave them
'cheating' by the end with such tricks as darkened scenes and long panning
stills to save a couple bucks.

I doubt seriously that this is just the first few episodes, considering they show clips from the end of the series (the last shot of Sousuke is where he wreaks all vengence of hell in Hong Kong).

Point taken. :? What I was trying to say was that previews don't usually cover animation from the entire run at one go... but then again, all current evidence only points towards ODBD being animated, so I was just speculating. The timing would be good, though. :)

Thanks you guys for listing the prior work of Kyoto animation...it didn't really tell me a whole lot, though :-P
And thanks go to sj4iy for providing that preview link.

Now, about the preview...:
Refresh my memory: Where in ODBD does Arbalast touch down with a parachute? - as far as I recall, it's not deployed in that manner at any one point, and it's definately the arbalast we see in the beginning because of the white paint...

I would presume that several episodes from the non-full-length novels will be included as well, but if my memory is right, there'll also be some additional stuff, including that desert fight.

They shouldn't have trouble doing an entire 26 episodes, and that would also round things nicely up, since Gatou is, according to his own afterword, 'done with part 1' now...that would set the setting nicely for 1 or perhaps 2 additional seasons in the future, if god wills it.

I don't think there's any chance of them skimping on the animation at any one point - they've had a long time to produce this, and the franchise is pretty popular...also, the quality throughout fumoffu was very steady (whereas it went a little more up&down in the first season)...so yeah, I think it's looking good. Though, there are some very grim scenes in the comming novels, and most of what's in the preview is all cutesy, which could be taken as an indication of a variety of things, but nothing can really be said for certain...

The frame rate of the battle sequences has definately gone up, though.
Is it just me, or are there way too many talking decapitated heads around these days?

Previews always look great. They're not going to include cuts where stuff is obviously off-model. FMP's original preview looked fantastic, even cuts from later episodes where the quality wasn't as high as the first 7 episodes. (and even cuts that never made it into the show )

I thought the animation in both series was comparable, not to each other but to other shows of similar type.

Fumo was goofy good fun. The character design was simple, rounded, cute. Budget concentration shows- there are great quality scenes, but non-action scenes are mostly average to mediocre. Often off-model, particularly for long distance shots, and they employed alot of fuzzy/glow tricks to make the art look richer. It mostly worked. Pretty good for a goofy, half-size comedy :)
I have been working on screencaps from my Fumo dvds. No eta for sharing yet.

Gonzo's work is different. FMP was a different series. It was a more detailed show, plot and art wise. I'm not sure it's fair to compare the two that way. It will be, IMO, fair to compare Kyoto's FMP:SR to Gonzo's FMP.

IMO, the best looking scenes in Fumo don't compare to the best looking in FMP. But FMP's worst episode was much much worse than anything in Fumo. Liking the less detailed look in Fumo is just a matter of opinion. I'm sure the hot springs story doesn't hurt it

The real test of Kyoto vs Gonzo will be comparing FMP:SR with FMP. I'm looking foward to it
The audience applauded, even though it was not clear what Bush meant.

They look like they really cleaned up the animation quite a bit from Fumoffu. Still cute and rounded though. But the quality is definitely up.

Er thats a nice frame to frame comparison of the two series. I guess i always thought unconciously that Fumoffu had better quality but after a lot of valid points people are bringing up, I guess my opinions have changed. BTW does anyone know what those vertical lines between Kanames eyes and cheeks are supposed to represent?

Edit quotes. - K

Nah. All FMP characters have them in all their pictures. Not sure exactly what it means though. Probably just some kind of shading.

After doing a lil research, it appears it's an asian trait - I guess they're there to mark how chidori, Sousuke and the other asians have more outstanding cheekbones, and eyes that are rooted a lil' deeper than some of the other characters...

The lines are generally utilized to show the shape of the musculature around the eyes, in other words, if a character is pinching his eyes because the sun is in his face - but when it comes to Sousuke and Kaname, it's also used to illustrate different 'faces', and to amplify the angle from which we see the face from - since they're permanently on Sousuke and Chidori, their faces seem deeper somehow.

It _could_ be that they're only on those two because they get more screentime and thusly a lil' extra detail - but then, I don't understand why it's also on kyoko and not on tessa...

So yeah. It's because they're asian.

Kyoto Animation just rang a bell for me, after watching the "Second Raid" teaser. I bought a OAV from them- "Munto", which I found pretty good. Certainly, the trailers for it, and the sequel "Munto II" are pretty cool in my opinion. The first OAV does have something of a slow pace, before it ramps up suddenly at the end- It would be better to watch the two episodes (The second isn't out yet, I believe) back to back. I do feel the animation quality was good. There were some neat scenes in the beginning with rain puddles reflecting the sky as 3 of the charcters walk to school.

Arbalest has head gatlings? I thought it was just internal 12.7mm guns?
