Tessa, Sunflowers, Manga+Fumo [split]

Can someone kindly fill me in on the part about why Tessa's in a field of sunflowers? If it was in the manga, and if anybody has seen any pictures in it pertaining to that sunflower scene, can anyone confirm that the beginning of Full Metal Panic? FUMOFFU scene looks like the scene of Tessa in a field of sunflowers, if it showed Tessa in a field of sunflowers in the manga.

In one of the manga volumes, there is a side story of Tessa intending to take a vacation somewhere, but getting lost in the countryside. She spends the time with a nice older couple there, and IIRC, there is a field of sunflowers there. I believe the color pics in the front of that volume was a two-page spread of Tessa in the sunflowers, but I'll have to check which volume.

One of the members here had scanned and pieced together the two-page spread, and did quite a good job.

(aaahh.. is this relevant to the thread about manga volume 5?)

Thank you. I guess it does look similar. If Kyoto Animation intentionally put that in the anime opening because of that picture from the manga, then I'm amazed. Never seen such of a collection of Full Metal Panic! manga wallpapers, I'm going to have to spend more time on the site.

This is most likely the case. Though, knowing Gatou, there could be a novel counterpart, so that would make that trip part of her character...thusly, it's not such a bad idea to have her be seen among sunflowers...

I guess the scene itself is pretty refreshing, seeing Tessa in the TDD-1 all the time is pretty boring. Though I wonder why she ventured so far into the field. I'd do it myself if I could.

I don't know, but I expect that there is a short story version of Tessa's trip.

Why the animation ended up in the Fumo OP could be that,
- perhaps the scene was drawn up with the rest of the concept art, with the idea that the story might have been a part of a ep
- the ep was never made, but the concept looks good
- it's nice to have a scene of just Tessa outside of the sub and school
- she's a major character who doesn't get alot of screen time, so showing her in a 'special moment' is nice for the audience and helps eestablish her as important
- and it also pays homage, or hints back, to the print forms of the story

If the story didn't exist in the print forms, we probably wouldn't have had a shot of Tessa in the sunflowers, so naturally it exists because the manga story does (or the short story version does). Why, precisely, they chose to include it in the Fumo OP, we really can't know for sure unless or until the creators involved say.

Hehe.. since they're just drawing her out in the field, how or why she got out there doesn't really matter

Now that picture is perfect. So alike with the opening. That picture really captures the opening. Also, in the colored one, Tessa seems very relaxed in the field, by taking off her ribbon thing to let her hair flow. I was kind of surprised by Full Metal Panic! episode 9 when Tessa was outside of the shower, and asked for something to wear. I'm always surprised in animes when they show girls with ponytails and other ways to keep their hair up, that when they loose it down, they have like waves of hair. I'd like to see Tessa with her hair all out more.

Edit: That picture from episode 9 also reminds me of Leonard's hair, so alike...

FYI, said story can be found in manga Vol#5... and yeah, when I first read
the story I thought it was a nice side trip to see another aspect of Tessa,
her innocent, feminine side unencumbered by her responsibilities to Mithril
or Danaan. Gives her char some more depth

Not incidentally, I got my volume 8 of FMP this week, so I'll be scanning and posting some new wallpapers sometime this weekend! I'll probably make a background of Gauron (even if he is uber creepy looking) but I don't think I'll be piecing together the two page spread in this volume. I have the ones from other volumes that I never get time to work on, but more to the point, it's the wrong direction for a really good wallpaper! It's vertical! *sigh* I might just scan the images at high res and post them as pictures and not wallpapers, we'll see.

woman22980, your wallpapers aren't found anywhere else, too bad you don't like mecha though, lol, AS are the best...
